The stock cpu water cooler leaked all over my motherboard and fried my cpu. I really want to keep the chassis, thanks for the video I’m going to use it as a reference guide. 👏
If I want to upgrade just my CPU/MOBO (Keeping the same PSU) do I need to make any alterations with the I/O board an/or connections. Also, does the I/O board work in conjunction with any motherboards?
Great job.. I have the same ALX system.. still on 920 but wanna keep the case and see how I can upgrade to the new i9 and get a 1080Ti. Did anyone do this yet?
Thanks. Sounds like an interesting build. If you use the original power supply it should be no problems, or you will need to modify a 24pin cable to power the MIO board :)
This is 2018 ,but can someone if they have the Master IO board pinout voltages share it with me ,im trying a mobo swap and you guys have done it a while ago so please help if you still do this
I would like to try to put a 6 hard drive in those 6 HDD slot(which all of them are 4TB for each of 6 HDD) inside its Right panel cover. Can I do it without a problem ??
Hey, can you give a more detailed explaination about the master I/o and front panel wires. I am going to have to do the same. I'm trying to make a ryzen system out of the same case.
Armand Thiart Thank you. To get lighting and vents to work with a third-party power supply like mine, you will need to make a 10-pin power cable to the mio board. If you use the original power supply, then you don't need to do this mod. There are some USB 2.0 cables coming from the mio board that you will need to connect to your motherboard. Since my motherboard only had 1 USB 2.0 connector, i had to use a USB 2.0 internal hub. There is some guides where you can learn how to make these cables and you can even buy one from one of the modders. Take a look in the comments of this video and you will find a guy that can do this. I will be doing a full system upgrade in this case hopefully in about a month and i will try to make a better quality video by recording instead of using pictures this time. Good luck
is there a write up you have or know of that is best? i just built a gaming rig around this tower that i gutted and would love to get the lights going. thank you
so I have the same computer, original hardware though, but I can not change anything in the command center and I accidently closed the top vents and cant reopen them, do you know that I could try doing?
Hi, Try reset the AlienFX board in the buttom front of the chassis by trying the steps on the link: www.dell.com/community/Alienware-General-Read-Only/Alienware-Desktops-MIO-Master-Input-Output-Troubleshooting-and/td-p/5525427 Also do complete reinstall of command center: www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/no-no/000178439/fremgangs-m%C3%A5te-for-%C3%A5-ta-ut-og-installere-p%C3%A5-nytt-alienware-kommando-senter Good luck 👍
Hi there. Do your vents close on shutdown and does the alienhead stay off? I think you are running windows 10. I just overhauled my Area 51 and running Windows 10 1809 and the vents wont close on shutdown. I tried to disable sleep mode and also disabled the fast boot but no luck.
Hello. I run windows 10 build 1809 and my vents close on shutdown. Are you able to change lights on the chassis? If that does not work you might need to see if the necessary USBs for the MIO board are plugged in and reinstall command center. If averything ok, go to power plan settings like you alerady have done, and disable the "setting for selective USB..... " and deactivate any wait, hibernate and sleep modes. Also right click the alienware "ThermalController" at the taskbar and select "Settings". Then activate the Windows Boot setting(Not the Manual boot) and set the bar on the top to max(15sec). now it should work. If not working. Shut down the computer, remove the power cord from the psu and hold the powerbutton for 30 sec and then press the button some times. And boot. That should reset the MIO board. Make sure you run " powercfg /h off " in cmd to completly disable hibernating. If i have the hibernate mode enabled, my wents won't close so that definetly have an effect. Hope this works for you :)
@@GamesToTutsOfficialChannel Thank you so much for your reply. Yes I can change the lights from the Command Center. Question are you using 2.8.11 or 2.8.09?
@@lucasgalarraga8 No problem. Before you do clean install. Go into the BIOS and look for hibernate settings and try disable them. You might also look for USB powershare and try disable that. Hope it works :)
The front door at the time i made the video is not motorized. I've later changed the front panel to the motorized version and the MIO board aswell to support it because the old panel was a little broken after shipping.
I'm looking to do this to my Area 51 same model but its still basically stock except for the gpu and memory. I need a better psu but Im unsure which wires splice into the mobo 24 pin plug. Do you have any references to show which wire goes where?

Maybe i will upload a video later when it is completed :)

How did you connect a keyboard to it. I am a noob at this.
I connected it like a normal keyboard in the back of the computer!
+Games To Tuts It was a silly question of me. There is probably something wrong with the USB ports on my pc.

And how did you proper clean it.
I used a air duster and a vacum to blow out the dust and then suck it right in to the vacum.
