I installed this kit on my Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc Hybrid bike this month. This video really helped with the very few questions that popped up during the build. And truthfully, the build was just as easy as this video portrays. Once built the bike performs well and mine tops out at 28+ mph using the throttle. Using the PAS I usually see about 26 mph top speed. I bought mine during the first week in 2021 and it cost $749 USD. I did have to purchase a 9-speed Freewheel because the Crosstrail came with a 9-sp Cassette. The US Dillenger fullfillment center shipped within 24 hours and I received the kit within 4 days after ordering. The kit came with brake sensors which I have not installed and don't really feel the need for them. All in all I'm quite happy with the kit, the build, the price and the performance.
Great tutorial. A couple of points to note. The premium off road rear hub motor now uses a screw-on freewheel as opposed to a cassette as shown in the tutorial. Dillenger sell a range of compatible freewheels. Also, the hub isn't compatible with a center-lock brake disc. If your existing wheel has center-lock, then you'll need to get an equivalent 6-screw disc. In the end I found it easier to build a new wheel. Just need tire, tube, disc rotor, and freewheel. I also had to get a cage mount extension for the battery, as my frame is square and has brake/gear cables/fittings mounted on the top side. And it looks like Dillenger have done away with the cable extension, and just made the cables longer. There's a lot of spare length if you're mounting your battery in the frame - so a bit of cable management required. About to go for my first ride. 2009 26" Anthem X2
I've just purchased this kit and I was a bit disappointed when I realized that there was not a manual on how to install the kit in the box. However, after finding this video, I am just speechless! How good you filmed the small details and how well you have explained each part of the installation, great job! Keep it up the good work mate!
I think that you didn't film the installation of the throttle because it doesn't actually fit with trigger shifters like you have. Would have been nice if they had mentioned that.
For idiots like me, be sure to take note of the following things: - The narrator mentions that through-axles are incompatible with the kit. At that moment in the video, he shows the quick-release skewer. I almost returned my kit because I thought my quick-release skewer was a through-axle! - The video mentions that the newer version of the hub motor uses a freewheel instead of the cassette. I didn't know what a freewheel was and I didn't realise I had to buy a new freewheel with the kit! Make sure you buy the freewheel from Dillenger with your order. (If you don't already have a freewheel setup) - Make sure you absolutely get the tool kit from the Dillenger website if you don't already have a set of special bike tools. I assumed it was all standard tools like allen keys and torx bits. It's not! I learned a lot in the last 48 hours since getting the kit, opening it up, being disappointed, almost returning the kit, then going back a forth to and from the bike store 5 times for parts haha. Yes I am an idiot
Also make sure you look up: - The difference between a freewheel and a casette - The difference between the quick-release system and the thru-axle system - The difference between 6-bolt discs and centrelock discs Also my bike's old rear wheel had an 8-speed cassette, but my local bike shop didn't have an 8-speed freewheel, so I had to wait a few days for the an 8-speed freewheel from Dillenger. The 6 small bolts securing my disc brake rotor were literally impossible to unscrew. I broke the ends off 3 torx bits before going ahead and buying a new rotor instead, abandoning the old wheel.
You are right!! I have sent email enquiry about this also. The instructions manual for the premium offroad kit says "This rear wheel motor uses a threaded freewheel, not a splined cassette, and can take up to a 9 speed" Yet clearly in this video he has a more modern splined hub. I would certainly be really angry if I bought this kit and got a electric hub for old style threaded freewheel hub!! The older larger electric offroad hub had this old style threaded freewheel too. I had it and hated that! So would only buy another if has modern splined cassette.
Nice! I'm planning to build up one by end of this month, hopefully it will be complete b4 the mid of December! Question, I have external batteries from my escooter, the connector to the batteries do they come in varies form that we can choose?
Thanks! The motor is rated to IP54 standards, so it can withstand splashing water. I would be careful with medium to heavy rain, try and refrain from riding in those conditions. As for the thumb controller and LCD meter, definitely not waterproof or water resistant. Protect those components at all cost. I had the previous offroad model. Loved it offroad. Except when out of power was like pedaling concrete home. The wheel didn't spin freely as the motor has some resistance. Does this new model wheel spin freely? The old model didn't have freewheel hubs either which was absolute garbage for anything above 7 speed. It also weighed about 10kg or more. I could get around 30 to 32 km range on about full throttle. It was awesome on the steep gravel climbs especially with extra weight on the rear. I will be contacting dillinger to see if this new version let's the wheel spin free with no power. If it does I be ordering another. I sold my other to old guy who actually didn't need go fast. So I put the computer lock to 25km maximum, otherwise it would be illegal here in Australia unless offroad.
@@henrievery-3eye Unfortunately it is old freewheeling hub though. I want cassette style since that is what modern mountain bikes all have today unless cheap kmart
That is strange. This is the link from their premium kit instructions. But in the instructions it says "This rear wheel motor uses a threaded freewheel, not a splined cassette, and can take up to a 9 speed". Yet here you use a splined cassette. I had the previous version which was threaded flywheel and was only going to buy this new premium if it has splined cassette.
@@henrievery-3eye . I already had the previous 1000 watt offroad kit and it was freewheel hub. That was the most disappointing part about it. Yes it did 40km/hour and had great torque. But the strain on the lower two cogs of the freewheel would make horrible noise. I even bought a new 7 speed rather than the 9 speed supplied. Fact is, freewheel hubs are old tech, and rubbish. Really shouldn't go beyond 5 cogs when having such heavy strain. So I got so annoyed I sold it. I mean the sound would not stop even if I flooded it with oil. So there is absolutely no way I would ever buy another high powered ebike rear wheel kit if it is freewheel. And yet I do have a 350 watt kit that doesn't make same noise. But it is light weight and is on a 26 inch wheel with half the weight. But if I do really push in lower gear it will make some noise. But nothing like the creeking and squeak that the dillinger did.

I think your video is terrific but it convinced me to buy a kit with a wheel that’s already complete.
If you have a coaster brake can you leave the e-brake unwired/cabled and use them like a clutch ?
how big are those batteries? it's the only thing holding me up from doing the conv. not sire it will fit

Will these Dillinger kits all run straight open throttle without pedaling?
Yes
the only freewheel hubs that fit now are the thread type, be warned
I have an hybrid bike ,the wheels are slim
Looks great and I have the perfect bike for it soi will save myself about $5000.
Good video but what makes this kit $1000? What's so special about it then the others? Besides this one I've seen $389 1200W kits on Amazon!
Good quality and has a very high quality samsung battery. Its on sale for 730. Actually cheaper if you include the battery than the amazon one
How much is the kit?
How fast does this run at max speed
