This woman just always seem to speak from the heart, to the heart. Her thoughts on work and the creative process are so truthful and I love to listen and *remember*.
I have been searching most of my adult life for a role model and about a year ago I found Liz. I can listen to her everyday all day long. She’s so intelligent, brave, kind, and lives a full life of love. Thanks for all you do Liz and thanks for interviewing her Lewis. You did a great job.
''Don't make yourself smaller to make other people to feel better about themselves.'' I repeated this part maybe for 10 times. It's one of the most important thing that should lead us to success and self-esteem. Thank You Lewis for the interview with this great woman.
As a writer myself, I truly love how she eloquently put it! I do not want to be competitive with anyone but myself. Each and everyone is given a gift/talent and there is no one like another. Enjoy your life and what God has called you to do. Thank you Lewis,
Thank you for asking. Your question made me review all again! Hard to rank! I am between 1) What do you most excited about life right now? and 2)absolute value! But I can easily say that this interview inspired me a lot . I've already STOLEN many ideas that I can write to my blog this week (:
Lewis Howes but she doesn't like the goat? Oh Lewis it would be so amazing if you got Tom Brady on your show! He is such an inspiration and seems spiritual as well.
I completely agree on listening to that small voice that is saying "Hey, look over here...this might be cool..." I am one of those people who could never find that number one passion. Even as I was in grad school, working on my PhD in psychology, learning how to teach and do research, I kept thinking to myself, "Is this really what I want to do?" I ended up following a little voice inside me that said "Take a quarter off, go back home, and see what's there for you." At 27 years old, it was this biggest period of soul searching in my life! I decided to try and teach kickboxing. When I got certified as a group fitness instructor, I got hired as a bootcamp instructor at a small studio that was desperate for female instructors. They asked me if I would consider becoming a certified personal trainer because they had an overflow of clients. I said, "Sure." Meanwhile, I am working on a personal growth and self development blog. I thought, "Why not write about health and fitness?" That led to... why not try video blogging.. then, why not create online programs? (My biggest goal for this year is to create 2!) All this to say that, amidst the fear, the uncertainty, and many failures (which I have not included here), I continue to find and refine what my passion is. I get more and more excited about the projects I am taking on, which tells me that I am on the right path. AND I become less and less attracted to romantic entanglements (so on Point E.G.! ;) lol). Thank you Liz and Lewis for an amazing conversation!
I am at a similar point in my life right now, at the PhD stage lol... Reading your post, I am now of course wondering: Did you finish your PhD? Did it matter to you whether you did or not? Thank you!
Gosh, thank you, @Lewis, for being so persistent and emailing Liz for a year to make this interview happen! I read her books and they left me in an owe.. I often randomly recall her concepts of creativity when I'm going about my day.. Sometimes she describes it in such an abstract way but it all makes so much sense in the end.. Liz is so down-to-earth, enlightened and so full of life and energy. Love her genuine laugh.. I also like how she interacts with other people in the room and looks at them when laughing at her or your jokes.. She is also very sweet to let you go off the track a bit and talk about yourself instead of just interviewing HER.. I actually love how YOU open up in this video and share even more of your own story and your family background.. I can incredibly relate to not feeling like I had real friends in school when growing up.. But finally being 30 years old now, living abroad in my dream city and being surrounded by successful diverse people from various backgrounds and of different nationalities I'm able to build the friendships I always wanted and also learned how to be a great friend to them myself..
Incredible - I have laughed, cried, this is truly one of the best interviews I have ever had the good fortune of watching - thank you to you both Liz and Lewis for sharing your beautiful and inspiring selves with the world!!
I LOVED 'Committed' !!! It was a very different kind of book from E,P,L. and probably not as accessible to the masses. But I am soooo grateful for it. I learned a lot from reading it. It's the kind of book I will go back and read again ... and probably because I am deeply interested in our Sociology. I don't even understand people NOT wanting to know the social origins of things. THANK YOU LIZ!!!
I wish Liz had been around when I first had a teenage crisis of faith. "Give me a SIGN!" I have real trouble producing lists like 3 things you are grateful about. I resolve to try harder at this. Great podcast!
I just listened to your interview with Liz Gilbert & it truly resonated with me. She is absolutely right about being in tune with signs or hints of something that could be your passion to be of service to others. I just recently have been receiving my "signs" & they keep coming! Thank you!
For some reason, I couldn't stop crying while watching this. The positivity and empathy that radiates from Liz (and Lewis) inspires me to continue following my curiosities and meeting more wonderful people in this world
Great interview. As a hummingbird I really appreciate having that approach to life explained and validated. And she's absolutely right about the lipstick. Keep interviewing folks like Liz and Alanis. They bring so much insight and joy to my life.
You know, Lewis. What I'm most grateful for right now is having found your podcast! I mean it! It's changing my life. I loved Elizabeth!!! Thank you so much.
Great interview, and I loved this quote: 06:47 [Liz Gilbert on personal ambition and artistry vs competition]: “My friend Sarah Jones, who’s a performance artist who’s won Tony awards - she’s fantastic - she has a beautiful way of expressing this. She said that at the beginning of any creative endeavor, ‘There’s a highway that I have to be on’ - these are her words, not mine; I’m paraphrasing - she said, ‘There’s a highway that I have to be on, to do this work. And, along that highway there’s any number of detours. And any time I find myself asking questions such as, am I going to be able to win a Tony with this, is my agent going to be able to sell this, are people going to want this, is the audience going to respond to this, is this the right kind of work, is this what the market is calling for’ - she said, ‘all of those questions are detours off the highway that I need to be on. And any of those questions that I start asking myself at the beginning of a creative journey is going to take me right off that highway and into the same neighbourhood every time - and that’s a ghetto where they’re going to take the hubcaps off my car, beat me and leave me for dead. Because it’s going to leave me asking the wrong questions. “‘The only question [that I really need to ask] at the beginning of this creative endeavour is: Does the thought of making this illuminate me, ignite me, make me feel like I can’t wait to get up in the morning, and give meaning to a life that is often very difficult? If the answer is *yes,* then I’m on the right road.’”
Lewis, your spirit is so beautiful. I've been a fan of Elizabeth Gilbert, but I just started watching you and listening to your podcast and I'm so glad I do. Thank you.
A Prettier Web everyone has a passion hun, you just need to do some soul searching and find it. I thought the same, and it was in front of me the entire time! HAPPINESS! Now I'm a life coach :)
@@CourtneyBerryboth of these comments just spoke to me. I didn’t think I had a passion either but reading your comment made me realize that peace is my passion.
it’s so delightful listening to her talk!! it’s like listening to an audio book but she’s just speaking her truth. if you interview her again i totally wouldn’t mind :)
I loved how much interaction between you two there is here. LOVE LOVE LOVE the conversation towards the end, and your whole idea behind the school of greatness. You're both so inspiring. Thank you.
I am watching this video in 2020. It's just so rich. Thank you for having such profound conversations. Liz's description of absolute value as home blew me away. That's exactly what I need to do for my creative journey. And for talking about your struggles in life and to where you have come to, gives me new hope. :) Thank you Lewis
You know I really love Liz but what I'm most struck by from this interview is how wonderful you are, Lewis. Really. You are a remarkable human being. I love you. :)
Such a forward thinker. Always refreshing to listen to her speak tangentially. Also, when I thought I couldn’t adore her anymore she dropped that Game of Thrones reference. Pfffft I love her
Absorbed this interview like a sponge! I am in the middle of reading Big Magic now, and it's one like yours Lewis, that I think I will read again and again because it's SO STINKIN' GOOD.
Liz Gilbert is so amazing! Thank you so much Lewis Howes for this splendid interview. I share your sentiments about Liz and Oprah and so much. Keep up the wonderful work you do. Thanks

I'm feeling a lot better after watching this video.. It definitely helped to keep things in context and perspective when I'm feeling the anxiety in the present..
Dear Lewis, this was one of the best interviews, thank you for continuous doses of wisdom and greatness. I always watch School of Greatness and truly enjoy it.
One of my new favorite talks. Thanks for sharing and being so open about your own issues talk about them in a simple sentence, and be able to move on to the next thing.. its really amazing and inspiring.
Have been following Lewis for a while now...Absolutely love him...his presence & his vulnerability...his niceness just comes across...is felt...even sitting here in India...Can we have you talking to Dr.Gabor Mate...Oprah...Andre Agassi & Gregg Braden.

Thank you Lewis, and thank you Elizabeth. I love they way she tells a story specially her story. Half-way through her book and can t wait for you to finish yours Lewis.
This interview is the most therapeutic and life-affirming discussion I have heard in a long time! Watched it a long while back and revisiting it tonight. Liz is one of my fave writers and speakers...she always shares so much wisdom and yet manages to be “real” and hilarious at the same time. And Lewis, I love your inquisitive and open mind and heart, you have an amazing energy and ask really thought-provoking, interesting questions. Thank you both! 🙏❤️🌏
"You're eyes have to be on the ground, looking for that almost invisible trail of breadcrumbs." That's what you call a way with words. Well said and explained Elizabeth. This m.o. has been my saving grace for most of my adult life (after I stopped looking for Moses 😆) 👏 👍
Elisabeth that's really beautiful! Hummingbirds and jackhammers. Beautifully said. Thank you so much for sharing that. That's how I felt my whole life like a hummingbird trying to be a jackhammer. Trying to be something that I wasn't.. listening to society and not myself. Being on the "top of the Heap" isnt always what it is about!..The whole competative thing you spoke of. Thank you so much Lewis Howes foe the interview.
Absolutely beautiful interview, thank you. Both Liz and Lewis motivated me to finally "show up"and make "public"some of my creative endeavours as well as really clarify my actual reasons for doing so. I want to share and serve and help despite of the judgment that might follow and I have you two to thank for that.Keep inspiring people.Karolina
I'm excited for your book on men & masculinity, it sounds so interesting!! that's such important work -- our society needs to understand the language and social conditioning of "being a man". I'm looking forward to see how you will uncover the ways masculinity can harm men themselves.
Well done, Lewis Howes! THANK YOU! :-) I always enjoy and admire Liz Gilbert. (The "Zero" zone she talks about being her home completely resonated with me).
Such wonderful insights said that I will take to my heart. Thank you both for bringing about this interview, it's one I'll watch time and time again :)
🌱 I more than loved it... but I don’t have a word for it! So glad to have found your channel! I already added another interview you did to my watch list! Woot woot!
Amazing. You are both two of my favorites people. I can’t believe this was so long ago. I love both of you for your openness and humility and graciousness … and of course the amazing love and knowledge you put into the world. Thank you. ❤ I wonder what her three truths would be today.
Lewis, you are such an inspiration. Such good energy. I love what you are doing and the energy and kindness and space you hold for others makes a huge difference :)
Wow I wrote my first comment before watching the whole video and now I have to leave another comment because the advice that Liz gives to young women at the end is so powerful and should be carved into stone! "Do not be too hasty to attach your life to somebody else's life. Focus on creating your own journey and your own identity because there is a terrible habit that women have: The minute they get attached to somebody else is when they become that person's helper and they live in service of that person's dream rather than their own." I admire how she can go from dead serious to almost rolling on the floor laughing in a second while she talks.. Loved her joke at the end of going rather to a library and learning Italian instead of the bar where she met her ex husband back in 1992 while she wasn't ready for it all yet.. I wonder if this is the reason why I was able to learn 7 foreign languages because I wasn't jumping from one serious relationship with a man to another like most of my girl friends did and lost the sense of who THEY really are and want to be in life.. And yep, absolutely agree with Liz's statement about lipsticks! Damn, finally someone said it out loud..
Beautiful, really enjoyed it. Loved the analogy to absolute numbers. will remain with me forever. Just get back to zero-your home- what you love the most. For me it is Law.
This was awesome. I love LG, follow her path, --inspiring. Lewis I didn't know of you before, your spirit, heart and intention were evident, and makes me want to 2B the best I can be.... This is where the action is.... =)
LOVE her & love your chat - def worth my attention :) Thank you for another great interview. I feel INSPIRED &, like Liz, ready to work to achieve my greatest. And loved the lipstick comment except I prefer combining lipstick with lip liner to create a new color LOL
Makes me want to "Eat, Pray, :Love," and tear off, if I ever had one, my own "mask of masculinity" and connect with others in life in more loving, caring, forgiving and serving ways. Thank you both, having wrestled with your own demons for the sake, the conviction and the commitment to attain personal success and veritable levels of personal mastery in life, to show "Us" what it means to "tear the mask off," to "let down the guard a little bit," and "connect" with each other and your audience in life enhancing, blessing and uplifting ways. We're ALL imperfect. But your mutual witness and sharing shows the incredible of value of continually striving to grow and learn in spite of our weaknesses and to learn, through much sought after study and mentorship, a pathway towards continual personal growth and sharing in it with others in which (worldly) success, never an end in itself, is just a stepping stone along the way, as personal defeat and failure, neither of the "Absolute Values" of which which should take us "from" our core and staying focused on the "Zero," as I suppose Elizabeth would put it, that is, upon the "means" itself, ie, ouirselves without which no further growth or unfolding can occur. It's all about the journey and the process NOT the results along the way. Thank You Two. You're the best! (ed howe-without the "s")
This is a wonderful interview. So many great ideas! The most helpful part for me started around 33:00 when you two were talking about success and failure. The concept Liz was talking about at 37:18 "...zero is my stable ground" resonated with me. I really enjoy the way that you structure these interviews along with the questions you ask at the end and the acknowledgments you give to the people you are interviewing. I will definitely share this video with others - thanks for all of your great work!
Love this Podcast, you made it so fantastic,I always felt bad having no proper passions, that helped a lot,I'm patchwork and in mixed seasons...thanks thanks lewis
Such perfect imagery. Thank you Liz. I'm definitely living a life of following my curiosity, most definitely in the midst of a satisfying, dizzying and sometimes downright scary improvised patchwork quilt.

Beautifull comment. I so agree! Appreciate your perspective! The word _remember_ has been on my mind to day.

Such wonderful insights said that I will take to my heart. Thank you both for bringing about this interview, it's one I'll watch time and time again :)
I listened to this on a recent flight. Such a fabulous interview. Thank you for sharing!!!

🌱 I more than loved it... but I don’t have a word for it! So glad to have found your channel! I already added another interview you did to my watch list! Woot woot!
loooove Liz Gilbert - and you interviewed her so well. Also, nice to learn more about you through this interview.
"Stubborn gladness" yeah!
Great interview! Time well spent.

From 17:52, forward.....✨yes. Thank you + let it be so 💫
Amazing. You are both two of my favorites people. I can’t believe this was so long ago.
I love both of you for your openness and humility and graciousness … and of course the amazing love and knowledge you put into the world.
Thank you.
❤
I wonder what her three truths would be today.
So glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you for watching.
More Elizabeth Gilbert. It was such a beautifully inspiring interview. Gratitude for you and her and finding y'all in my life. :)
Focus on creating your own journey and your own identity because there is a terrible habit that women have: The minute they get attached to somebody else is when they become that person's helper and they live in service of that person's dream rather than their own."
I admire how she can go from dead serious to almost rolling on the floor laughing in a second while she talks..
Damn, finally someone said it out loud..
loved the powerful questions you asked Liz
This was great Lewis!!! Thanks for having Liz on :) Sharing out of course!!
Beautiful, really enjoyed it.
Loved the analogy to absolute numbers. will remain with me forever.
Just get back to zero-your home- what you love the most.
For me it is Law.
I
This was awesome.
This interview is absolutely amazing. Liz is so smart this is mind blowing! i agree with everything she says. 💗thanks
Great interview! Lovely interaction between Lewis and Liz.
I love this channel💞💞Dear Lewis, you have a Romanian fan here.
@@lewishowes Thanks for replying. That's awesome
Such perfect imagery. Thank you Liz. I'm definitely living a life of following my curiosity, most definitely in the midst of a satisfying, dizzying and sometimes downright scary improvised patchwork quilt.
Oh! The fabulousness that is Elizabeth!
Thank you so much for this.
Timely talk.
Keep doing what you're doing!
Thank you for this interview! Between this and Carrie Ann Moss, my heart is buzzing.
Beautiful, Lewis and Liz, thank you!
