Why is it I never read or hear about the ridiculous prices Focal charge for their replacement ear pads in any Focal review?? Focal wanted $480.00 AUD for a set of ear pads for the radiance. Great headphones but..... come on. That's half of what I paid for them.

4ft cable is IMHO just right and certainly not EXTREMELY short. 6ft cables are routinely described by reviewers as needlessly long.
Under 6ft is too short for me as I have a big desk and my DAC and AMP are pretty far from me.

What cables would you get as a replacement?
I jus purchased these so I’m gonna see for myself. But I’ve seen so many people on forums complaining about the harshness in the treble on these . I’m pretty treble sensitive and I work as an audio engineer mix for 12-16hrs daily so the last I want from my at home set of cans is something super analytical. I was looking for something relaxing and fun. Do you find that to be an overall characteristic of these cans. Thanks for the review man.
I just pulled the trigger on these...they will replace my Audioquest NightOwls. Similarly I've seen some reviews detailing some treble inconsistencies with some tracks with these cans. I wonder if you can provide some insight of your experience. Thanks!
@@Leo.SKDXL05 daily use now for a couple months zero issues sibilance or harshness. Great cans for long listening sessions. Def not the most analytical but that’s what I would say is the reason to get um. All in all very happy with my purchase.
@@Kmahomie thanks mate! I've been enjoying the Radiance for 2 days now and I'm very pleased with their performance. They do everything well and do sound better than the Nightowls they are replacing imho. Tbh I still prefer my Fostex Ebony for the head rattling sub bass and decent clarity however the Ebonys do not perform very well with instrumental genres, not to say they sounded bad but they do add too much warmth to music that did not benefit from the added warmth. I do notice that the Radiance do bottom out with some bassier hip hop tracks but not all, however they shine with instrumental tracks like no other headphones i've tried so far. So, to recap, the unique sound, unique colab, and unique look make these cans a keeper in my book! 👊
@@Kmahomie hey, if you are able to get a hold of some Dekoni pads for these cans you will not regret it! An all around improvement on an already fun & clear sound.

I think he is more referring to high end headphones, they tend to be very heavy. If you went by all the headphones in the world then yes you would be spot on.

What do you recommend for headphone pad replacements?
Try the Dekoni Elite Sheepskin. The way the Radiance drivers are designed bass response won’t be downgraded. I can say that the Dekoni Elite Sheepskins don’t alter the midrange and treble in a negative manner with the Elegia.

@@ResolveReviews Dang. I need a good pair of closed at that price point but am still on the fence it seems. Neumanns look ugly compared to the focal and aren't as comfortable I don't think. But none of that has nothing to do with sound haha

It's less about what is better in that case, the XC is much heavier, even though it has better technical performance.
I am about to pick the XC over the Radiance. Apart form the weight issue, XC appears to be mostly an endgame closed back with better capabilities low end or otherwise in comparison to the Focal’s smaller dynamic driver.

Do you prefer the stellia over the radiance?
They’re both fantastic. The Stellia, I think, is definitely the better performer when it comes to speed, dynamics, and resolution, but I personally prefer the tonal balance and comfort of the Radiance.

The question for all Focal headphones. Do these clip at higher volumes with Bass?
I've personally run into the clipping on the Elegia and Clear, but it was at beyond healthy listening volumes and with a bass boost enabled. This however, never happened when I listened to the Radiance or Stellia.

I got the Focal Elex from Massdrop in Feb 2020 and really liked their sound signature a lot... but the clipping began to drive me nuts and was a deal breaker. I actually sold them on eBay for more than I paid for them! 😁 I would love to get another pair of Focal headphones but I'm so scared off by this clipping issue.
@@JTB-- as someone who owns the elex and the clear, and has tried almost every other focal, i wouldnt recommend getting them if it's an issue. The elex clips far less than the clear, which can clip at high volumes with a small bass boost. In general, if you are listening at a volume high enough to clip the elex, the rest of the lineup will probably clip too.

@@JTB-- i decided to go with the elegia. Couldn't justify the extra for the radiance especially because the only place in Australia that stocks it has it for $1999, which is well above rrp. It should be $1290 usd which would be about $1700 aud. Im not overpaying $300 for a headphone.
@@JTB-- thanks for the write up. I agree with you about the anandas. I've owned the 800s, audeze lcd2 fazors, klipsch hp3, beyerdynamics t1 2nd gen, aeon 2s and i found the ananda to the best of the lot and the best value but theres something about the elex i like the most. The ananda has more details and separation but its got a small treble peak somewhere that i notice on some music(but it's a very very small issue on an otherwise excellent headphone) but the elex is just nice and smooth, it just sounds right to me. I agree the 800s are only good for classical and even then they still sound thin and analytical, not enjoyable. The lcd2 fazors, really nice bass, need to much eq to sound decent. I won't get into the others. As for closed back end games, i personally don't think any pair would compete with open backs and i decided not to pursue end game closed back but maybe something from ZMF might be up there with the best. I'm hoping the elegia is nice and enjoyable but I'm not expecting it to blow me away.

I managed to order a pair of both the Radiance and the Clear MG at less than half price, so I didn't even spend the standard price of one to get them both. I'm hyped to get them, I do Music Production and stuff and want to have an Open Back and Closed Back on me at all times and juggle between them to listen to mixes to make sure any weakness of one type of headphone I can test on the other. Right now I'm using a Sundara and DT 700 Pro X so they'll be massive upgrades, and good for general listening and also gaming.
Would the Radiance be a good compliment to the Clear MG?
The Elegia ain't odd. They sound exactly how I want them to be.

I mean the spatial characteristics are good, but some more bass would make the sound much fuller. Maybe you just hate bass, that's alright too.
@@nayuki2020 I tried EQ for more bass then I hear dclipping and muddiness. I guess the stock tuning is the best for the Elegia drivers.

Yesterday I listened to these headphones and Denon AH-D9200 (source astell & kern kann alpha). And in terms of sound and convenience I liked Denon much more. Now the choice must be made between DAN CLARK AUDIO - AEON 2 ($ 770), Dan Clark Audio Ether C Flow 1.1 ($ 1500), Denon AH-D9200 ($ 1500), DROP + MRSPEAKERS ETHER CX ($ 750) ...
I just got a used pair of Clears in great shape for $500... Talk about bang per buck these are amazing.

Thanks guys I stock the headfi and USaudio classified and every one in awhile a great deal presents itself. Had a shot at a GSX Mini for $1200 and Wells Audio Milo for $800 and passed on both. The clears were too good to pass up.

After listening to the section on FR, I thought...could one say this is the Audeze of Focal headphones?
I wouldn’t say so, not really. It doesn’t apply across the board, but some Audeze’s are really dark, particularly in the upper midrange. This is not a dark sounding headphone, just a little warm. I’d say its overall treble level is not that far off from the Clear, it just doesn’t have the treble spikes at 6K and 10K.
@@chrono-headphonereviews242 The phrase 'ABX of XYZ' doesn't mean they are the same in absolute terms. I don't mean it sounds like an Audeze, just relative to other Focals...your bass and midrange description make it seem that way. *edit: so maybe the highs make it go from what would be 'dark' to 'warm'?
@@jeffreymakuch2493 dark and warm are related, but essentially different terms. Warm means emphasis on bass and lower mids, while dark means very hidden/low/fucked treble. The audeze are both warm and dark, but you can have a headphone that isnt dark while being warm, and viceversa.
