    I have to say I like the variety of different videos you do. I subscribe to several niche channels for single subjects yet you open my eyes to different things which sends me down my own rabbit holes. Its your channel just do what you want to do. If someone's not interested they can simply skip the video.

  • @Hawkins1
    @Hawkins1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Jason - been a long time viewer. Your server buiilds, plex and Home Assistant/Automation vids are what got me hooked but I haven't watched as much lately because it seems like a lot of shilling for products vs. things useful based on the reason I started watching (tech, servers, etc.). While the battery power stuff was cool to see the set up, it got redundant as more companies kept sending you them that it felt like a QVC in some cases vs. a tech channel. I certainly get the promos and marketing pay for you to be able to make vids but to me it just got a bit too much -- in fact some of your videos don't even show up in my youtube "Home" page even though I am a subscriber (I looked at what videos I havent watched and they are all product review vids.)
    Obviously not trying to poo on you as I still watch and enjoy your vids, they've just become less relevant to me. One or two home battery backup project vids are nice but when it turned into back-to-back "testing this battery" and "testing that battery", I think that's where the downturn happened to me. We want to see your setup, your server builds and utilizations, new features relevant to servers (unraid or otherwise), Home Automation toys and application, etc

    • @Bytemybits
      @Bytemybits  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey man, very valid points. RE: the batteries, I myself was getting bored of them. I did however, do my best to never sugarcoat a review since most of my views are from people researching them before they buy/not buy one. I hate shills and I have turned down many paid "reviews" because of it. I kept, and probably will keep doing those videos because it leads to greater opportunities for my channel. For example, this EP cube thing is my dream setup, 100%. It was because of my battery reviews that I got the opportunity to get one for free (like $16k).
      That doesn't mean I disagree with your points though, because I feel the same way. It's just for me, on the back end, I know I have to walk through a little shit to get to the stuff I actually want. :) I do appreciate the honest feedback 100%!

So far only motion lights have made it into my house…love em so far. Not sure where else I could use em? Garage with ceiling sensors would def interest me.

    Honestly, I subscribed to your channel years ago...for you, Jason. I like that you're all over the place. I like it when you completely nerd out over something. I like your passion and enthusiasm. I like your YOLO approach. And to be honest, I think I watch every video you upload even when it's not really my thing because that's my way of supporting your channel.
    Personally, I like your Home Assistant content as I use HA myself. I also like the fact that you expose me to gadgets (like the laser cutters) that I will probably never have access to myself for various reasons. I'd like to see a video about Plex alternatives as I haven't been jazzed with how Plex has been running their business in recent months/years. On the other hand, I'm not the greatest fan of your numerous portable battery reviews. They feel like variations of the same thing, and it doesn't help that I don't need such batteries myself.
    This comment is starting to feel like it's all over the place too. Do what you enjoy, Jason. That's what results in the best content. I'll be here for it, no matter how niche.

Anyways, thats what I like, and I want someone to do a set by set video on how to do a Steam cache on unraid, and show set buy set. don't leave out any presses, and how to setup your cache on a seprate drive.

    You could make a video about making a portable power station using your extra batteries. You could one of the batteries on a 2 wheel cart (hand truck) with an inverter/charge controller and then give it away to a charity, family member, or someone who might need it. You could make a 12V version and a 48V version and compare them.

    I think your low viewership issue may have more to do with the TH-cam algorithm pigeonholing you within a particular niche, which is home server hardware and software.
    I think because the videos you've been doing are outside of your niche, they haven't been getting pushed into people's recommended feeds. I know I haven't been seeing any videos by you in a while.
    That said, the stuff I'm interested in is home server, hardware, software, plex transcoding, storage setups. tutorials, guides, and software recommendations.

  • @tomp9447
    @tomp9447 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Long time subscriber.... TH-cam doesn't recommend your stuff to me anymore, I have to find it myself -- I think you pissed off the gods somehow -- I think the gods are demanding shorts. I like all your random stuff, I'm much like you, with the DIY approach. Not that it matters, but it is shorter to tell you what I don't like: portable batteries, vacuums, 3D printers. I was interested in the EP cube since it's not a portable system, but I could see you losing a lot of viewers on that one. But basically, @LiquidCipher nailed it for both what I would most like and what is best for your channel.

    Seriously - not funny, this chaos.
