  • This is the 2006 Honda Accord Valve Adjustment. This is for the inline 4 cylinder, the V6 will be different. The first thing you need to do is remove the cylinder head cover. You can refer to our head cover gasket removal video. The crankshaft turns 180 degree clockwise (camshaft pulley turns 90 degree). You will have to turn the crank pulley when adjusting the valve clearance on each cylinder.

    Quick tip: leave the tire on and don't mess with the crank pulley. Remove the valve cover and spark plugs. Throw a 3/4 inch wrench on the bolt for the power steering pump. Rotate that clockwise instead of the crankshaft pulley. You can do the whole job without getting on your hands and knees. Great video thanks for sharing

    Was a good video. At 5:50 your partner went counterclockwise a few degrees to correct the arrow's position. Good practice is to go back a few more degrees, then meeting the arrow to the chain dot going ONLY clockwise.

    At what mileage is this recommended 100k ?
    My 04 accord has 175k I’m sure I’m due for this.
    Thanks for the informative video I’ve done this on many diesels but never an overhead cam engine like this.

    • @farmerjim-fat-man-do
      @farmerjim-fat-man-do 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Clint McDowell, yes your engine is probably due for a valve adjustment. I think the Honda spec is to check the lash every 30K miles and adjust as needed. The valve train gets pretty noisy when it needs adjustment so I use that as my indicator instead of pulling the valve cover every 30K. My 03 Accord has 245k miles and the valves have been adjusted twice. They are once again getting more noisy than I am comfortable with so I will be adjusting again this weekend. I did the first adjustment at like 80k, the second around 170k and now the third at 245k. If valves on your car have never been adjusted you should hear quite a difference in valve train noise after adjustment. Good luck!

    Would valve adjustments solve a P0341 - camshaft timing issues? Timing chain and VTEC solenoid has already been changed but P0341 still exists. If there is engine sledge, would recommend taking apart the camshafts, clean them, and then do the valve adjustment? Thanks!

    Hey, got a 2004 Honda element no code map engine but at idle in the morning and when motor is warm, I'm getting around negative 15 both short term and long term. It smells of exhaust gasses quite heavily but engine doesn't run rough at all and only symptom I'm having is I feel I should have more power. Have new oem air fuel sensor and the rear o2 as well. All my live data looks normal like map, ect, ait, etc. Do you think since these engines need to have their valves adjusted and it's a new to me car with 160k, that valves being out of adjustment can cause a rich condition? Thank you.

  • @IgorD33

    Does it matter on which angle you insert the filler gauge? And how much resistance should there be when you are in the spec. For example if I adjust intake to lower limit 0.008” should I be able to insert a 0.009” or 0.010 filler gauge

    • @Oliver0200

    My 2006 4 cyl Accord is 330K miles now. I did all services my self , Thanks to your videos. But when it was due for valve adjustment (tens of thousands of miles ago), this video was not uploaded yet.
    My question
    I never did valve adjustment for my car, and I still get excellent performance and excellent MPG 30+ hwy, Do I have to do it at this stage?

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you hear the valves are clicking, then you should... My vehicle's at 110k miles and it was still in spec., if you feel like your car performance has diminish, then I would do it, but if its still feels good, then don't need to mess with it.

    • @JoshSims
      @JoshSims 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Honda valves tighten over time and get quieter, so no warning before hand.

    • @jeroen7699
      @jeroen7699 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically, on these engines the inlet valves get a little loose over time, but the exhaust valves get tighter. Tight exhaust valves will eventually burn, because they don't touch the cilinder head long enough to release the heat. But before that you will probably get rough idling, engine shudder, or a lack of power.

    I was reading the Haynes manual. And it's asking me to find TDC on the compression stroke... Is that the method shown in the video?
    It also asks me to disable the fuel system and pull out the spark plugs. Is that necessary?

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes TDC was shown in the video, as for disabling the fuel system, you don't have to. Pulling out the spark plugs, you can do that so it'll be easier to turn the crank pulley. We didn't do it so it was a little tough turning the crank pulley lol. But it was ok

    Question? My 2006 Honda Accord 4cyl uses 5w-20 oil, my dealer has used 0w-20 in my last 2 oil changes. It seems the ticking of my engine has gotten louder. will a thicker oil, such as 10w-30 hybrid oil keep my valve adjustment longer? I have had 2 valve adjustments in the last year. Ithought valve adj were every 60,000 miles?

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't had any ticking problems on my vehicle. I would try thicker oil and see if it goes away, if not, then I would further investigate what's the problem. 2 valve adjustments in 1 year is odd because you only do it when there is ticking but it shouldn't be that often. My vehicle has 115k miles without any valve adjustments needed.

      +Juan Aguirre well, I will be watching my mpg once I get the time and see if it made a difference or not. My engine was running 22 mpg when the normal range is 26 mpg city and 33 hwy, so we will see... I have to refuel and reset my odometer and check it once I get to do that. Also my car was running normal and wasn't noisy, so can't tell on that yet. Adjusting the valves will help with gas mileage and performance issues.

    Nice video, however next tiem try to not put your hands/gloves between the camera and what you are trying to show. Know it was just for a few things, but attempting this for the first time, would like to "see" more.
