Role of Rice in Korean History
Rice is a traditional ingredient used in Korean history both as a food and as a
skincare ingredient. During the Joseon Dynasty, women used ‘rice water’ that they called ‘Beauty Water’ as a toner to get beautiful skin. The use of rice as a skincare ingredient has extended to modern times. For instance, ground rice mixed with other grains, such as mung beans and red beans, is used as a powder cleanser.
Rice is rich in amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants, providing many benefits as a skincare ingredient.
BOJ went further to maximise the benefits of rice by combining it with other
synergizing ingredients such as honey, kaolin, and humectants to create skincare products with properties such as moisturising, brightening, and sebum control without any use of other chemicals.
I was lucky to be selected as a member of the BOJ test panel for newly launched skincare products.
