Notice that it's alot of multiplayer only games. Almost as if they are focused on the wrong type of games. It's as if campaign and story driven games are not dead after all.
Well, it's oversaturation generally. People can't play 100s of multiplayer games simultaneously. So, basically, your game needs to immediately grab a loyal fanbase that pretty much only plays your game or else you lose. And that is harder and harder to do nowadays since people are playing everything else.
Also, out of this list, I only even heard of 4 of them, and I had no idea 1 of those 4 had actually come out (Marvel's Midnight Sun's, I remember a lot of hype about its eventual release about the same time Marvel's Avengers stopped making new content, but never heard anything about a release) and maybe I am wrong, I don't work in video game PR, but if you are trying to do a live service multiplayer video game certainly making sure people actually know your game exists and is available to play kinda seems like a requirement right?
If you hear someone say single player games are dead, they don't pay much attention or they're a troll. People have been trying to say single player games are dead for over 10 years now and there has never been a shortage of single player games.
I mean, they have to be multiplayer only games. Single player games don't have dedicated servers, nor are they EXPECTED to have updates. It's not that campaign and story driven games aren't dead (though they aren't, and you're stupid for even listening to that type), it's literally that they, by definition, cannot be shut down after release.
There’s no more room in the industry for live service, battle royal, multiplayer games. People already have their favorites and new games with that business model are throwing their money down the drain. Most likely, even if they’re well made amazing games, people already spend their time in the game they already have hundreds of hours and dollars in. It’s almost impossible to pull them away. The other half of gamers don’t even bother with those kind of games, so all these live service games Sony is making is a huge waste of money and resources. They’re a day late and dollar short. Missed the window completely. They should stick to what they’re good at.
Immortals Fenix Rising was something I personally slept on and it was a blast. Pretty visuals, fun combat, character creation (which is always a plus) and it was actually genuinely funny.
I understand why KO City was shut down. It should've got more loving, but there's a cost for it. I mean I played the hell out of everything I had, since first playing it last June when it was a free to play game. But there are community servers now, and its player count is above average in the best way possible. Try it out while you still can, before its possible sequel comes out
there's a weed joke in that game that genuinely made me chuckle and it was something I never seen in a game like that before. it was the kind of humor you'd see in a straight up comedy 😆
Agreed, such a great game, had it for the switch and then picked up the deluxe version with all DLC on Series X for £5, gutted they decided against a sequel.
Hyenas getting canceled absolutely GUTTED me. I was part of the alpha and beta testing and it was a really good game and it was a nice take on the shooter and I was so happy to play it live! Argh!
Immortals was a real shame and had genuine potential especially since it was starting to explore other pantheons that are rarely touched outside of Greek. Especially with the DLC. Shame they were so quick to drop it rather than refining and building on what they had. The whole Monster situation didnt help either
While some of these games being silently cancelled/closed is pretty bad, this list does show one thing with Ubisoft cancelling Hyenas shows awareness that devs finally understand players don't want micro transactions, now if only every other developer would figure this out.
@@kokobeatz7222 baby steps man, baby steps the fact a big publisher is noticing gamers hate micro transactions is big, them making actually playable day 1 games have to be coming next
R.I.P. Gundam Evolution-- this video was released exactly one week after the servers shut down. It was the Overwatch I needed when Overwatch stopped being Overwatch. At least I was there for the literal final moment.
I am with you. I will miss the ability to go and play a Gundam game with other fans of the franchise and I worry we won't see another one because companies will be too scared to give it a shot. The game deserved better support.
If u have been on the fence about Immortal Feynx then jump off, such a great game! Hours of fun and great DLC, can normally find it on sale for dirt cheap as well.
I'm sick of Greek mythology games, but if Immortals took place in Hawai'i or Aotearoa, I'd buy the collectors edition for me and all my friends. We need more Polynesian mythology and stories in the world
Yeah. Exposing the international audience to lesser-known mythologies instead of Greek or Norse is a good idea. I wouldn't mind a game based on Celtic myths as well.
Here's a game probably none of you heard about Second Extinction was a game where you and 2 other players would go into an open world map, complete missions, and fight mutated Dinosaurs. It was released in early access in October 2020 and was supposed to have a release date of October 20 2022. It was eventually delayed to November due to unseen bugs and it was delayed again to 2023. In late 2023, the game was cancelled, pulled from sales, and is set to have it's servers shut down next year
The only game here I miss is Evolve. That game was my childhood even when I never played it online. I used to just run around and chill with my brother. The disk doesn't work anymore sadly
I find it funny, that the old games that were shut down still had more players than Babylon's Fall. :D Also its seems like a shame for the Echo VR to be shut down, i dont think their next project will be as a big hit as this one.
Echo vr was one of the first vr games I played and it was a ridiculous amount of fun I spent an unreal amount of hours in that game and I never once ran into somebody trolling or loooking to piss people off just people wanting to get good at echo and have fun
People stop asking for every modern game on the switch it’s just not gonna work. I’m not a switch hater I just know the limitations of a hand held console.
My shock was Knockout City. I enjoyed that game so much and didnt play for a little bit because of them having to make me use 2 launchers just to play the game, Then i recommend a game to a past friend and they notified me they couldnt find it on the Nintendo Switch shop and i looked into it and found out they shut down. RIP Knockout City.
Immortals is the only game on this list I really was upset they canceled. The first one was the closest thing to a Zelda game we were ever going to get on a Playstation console. It really was a sleeper hit of a game.
It’s a shame about Knockout City, but once I saw how bad server stability was starting to get, I knew the writing was on the wall. That and content updates were never very substantial. If it would’ve launched as a free to play game in the first place it probably would’ve had longer legs.
I'm just now finding out that a Fear Effect remake was in the works and I'm gutted that its been cancelled, i would have been in line at release day for that.
....wow that Echo e-sports game makes me think a VR Ender's Game: Battle Room game would be absolutely freaking awesome....someone please make this happen.
I'm genuinely surprised we haven't heard anything, either positive or negative, towards the supposedly planned Genshin Impact for Switch. Just radio silence.
Evolve. A game I played only once. I played it with friends back in Feb 2015 and have a playtime of 105 minutes. I was playing it on an HP Pavilion, a mini-tower that is horrendously terrible at any games running anything better than Unreal Engine 2. Frame rate was 1 frame every....10 - 20 seconds if memory serves, but much, much worse when it came to the single player cutscenes. Even after finally upgrading to an HP Omen gaming laptop shortly after Walmart promoted it, I never went back to try it again. I still see it in my Steam library, but I don't think I'll ever touch it.
"released to positive reviews" is such an empty statement. It means the gaming press (who are worthless) and some people who bought in early and didn't want to feel like they made a mistake.
I couldnt get into Immortals Pheonix Rising because for a single player game it really threw its extra paid content at me before i could even launch the campaign.
Knockout City’s name was an incredible, unique IP that combined fighting game and FPS mechanics. We ran DEEP on console but Velan hung us out to dry to make some lame Hotwheels AR game.
So regarding Dreams' failure...when I saw it's trailer, I thought to myself...what the hell is Dreams? When I saw reviews and people playing it, I thought...what the hell is Dreams? And after watching this video reporting it's flop I thought...what the hell is Dreams? That's why it failed. What even is that thing supposed to be? It's just some game designed to make other games? Immortal Fenix Rising is pretty damn good. It deserves a sequel. Hopefully they change their minds and resume work on the sequel.
