- In the beginning, there was Slaughter Pen.
Before Coler Preserve, before the Back 40, the 2006 green-lighting of 25-plus miles of single track at Slaughter Pen-a historic former livestock operation in Bentonville-spurred a now-storied trail-building boom in Northwest Arkansas.
I'm here and I love it here. Drove from houston just to enjoy the trails. I've been back after a month of being gone.
Helmets off to the men and women whom have contributed to this mtb mecca! Another great video by Oz Trails... loved the clip at end with emphasis on the young kiddos coming out in droves.

I mean, ok and all, but not everyone wants to do jumps and whips and gaps. Don’t alienate the xc rider who just wants a nice workout in the woods. Those are the ones who sustained Slaughter Pen in its first decade.
... "ok and all"... really? how many kids were inspired to put down their phones and hop on a bike all day to ride those xc trails? There are miles and miles of xc trails to ride around here, why so glum about bringing in different types of riding styles? There is plenty of real estate to go around, don't you agree?
