I like using a really short handled spinning rod with an ultra light spin reel, yet spool it with 17lb. line (only 35 yards will fit on it) and use it to cast only short yards to the shoreline only in shallow water (fan casting with a spinner bait) for largemouth, running the spinnerbait right underneath the surface, almost like a topwater lure.
