I like this channel as it put the different In Flames in my face, like you said and for me, its pretty obvious that old In Flames, from Jester Race to Clayman, is the best, by far. Perfect balance in sound.

I wouldn't say they've updated beautifuly. This song is over 25 years old so they didn't have the tools to do the perfect mixing and editing, yet it still destroys everything from the newest album. Foregone shits on the previous 4 albums(mostly thanks to the instrumental part) and it's overall a decent album, but still like a B tier one. They're on the right track tho. Imo TJR and Whoracle are MeloDeath perfections. The thing about this genre is that you don't need alot of corny singing, like Anders does now. Guitar harmonies were the melodic part that blended amazingly well with harsh vocals. My first In Flames albums were Reroute and Soundtrack, but when I discovered their earlier stuff... I was mesmerized.

In my humble opinion, Clayman was the Season 9 of The Simpsons moment for In Flames. I'm so happy they have a loyal fanbase that loves everything they've done post-Colony, but it just feels like a different band to me.
And if you compare the first album with the latest album, there are no overlapping members... so it really is another band.
