  • This is an AWESOME padlock. Just came in. The Gougler lock is unique as to the fact that you can open it in the dark by feel due to the fact that you count clicks. Facebook: / dieselducy

Munroe Falls, OH - my home town! These were made in Kent Ohio and we pronounce it Gog-ler our Gowg-ler. I just gave my 1970 phys. ed. locker lock to my daughter for law school. It's got a very cool 5 digit combination. Love these locks!

"We"? Are you a Gougler also?

We, as in Kent-ites. My key guy had a bagful and used to sell them for $10. His personal one has only 2 numbers! Only one that he has found like it.

I live in Kent, Ohio. We have used Gougler locks since I was a kid. The lock was invented by E. M. Miller around 1930. Patent #1,825,467.
Charles Gougler purchased the rights and the tooling to make these locks. They also made mortise door locks using the "click" combinations. Many homes in Kent and Meadville, Pa use these locks. The Erie railroader workers would take them back to Meadville.

I recently bought one at ebay. Years ago I was a reader for blind and low vision students, and one of them showed me hers. I thought it was elegant.

Hi! I have a cannondale lock that looks like a Gougler click lock that I bought in the 80’s. Forgot the combination. Think it was 3 digits. 32545 is stamped on the lock. Can you tell the combination? I would be super grateful. Also, where do you start the combination? All the way to the left or at zero? Thanks! Andrea

You need to find a locksmith that has the code sheet. On the Gougler you cleared it clockwise on odd numbered combinations and CC on even. My key guy has a two numbered lock for the gym.

beautiful lock but the control key makes that lock not as secure... i can probably pick that control key in literally under a min and have access to what ever that lock is protecting...

Adrian Weber I have 3 for trade. They don't have keyways. All are 4-number L-R-L-R configurations.
