Probably not the worst, but Rias from Dying Light. He was so annoying and infuriating that we should have gotten a good boss fight. Instead we got the good ol quick time
I think Old King Allant's true form is designed to be a bad boss fight because it ISN'T a boss fight. It's the symbolism that he's pathetic and it's supposed to make you sad and merciful.
It's something that some people are very split on, some boss fights are interesting for uninteresting reasons and vice versa, but I also wonder why not just make Allant just a regular NPC who is completely optional trivialising the idea of killing him when you are inside the 'Old one' in the first place.
@@WhipLashJimmyFrank That'd be an interesting idea. Regardless, at least we got a fun fight right before, which cannot be said for any of the rest of these bosses.
Clearly this dude never played these games he doesn’t even pronounce any of the bosses from the souls games names correct. So of course wouldn’t understand.
I do agree the fight with Fontaine in Bioshock isn’t a good boss fight, but the good ending that can follow afterwards made me think that my option for going good was so worth it.
The final boss in Resident Evil 7 should have been on this list. It was a letdown as it was too short and incredibly because all you had to do was constantly shoot at it while you are treated to separate cutscene until you are given an overpowered weapon that kills it instantly
I would love to play a Transformers game using the Nemesis System where you could choose which side to be on and then recruit enemies to your side once you've defeated them. Would be fun in my opinion 😊
Am I the only one who actually loves Arkham Asylum's final boss? I mean, it's a Batman game with Joker as the main villain. A simple fight between Batman and regular Joker would've been much more boring, honestly.
I actually like the Human Reaper Boss Fight from Mass Effect 2. First, it explains why Collectors abducted humans, and second, we play as a human who has nothing but guns and his/her squad while going up against something gigantic.
I think the Human Reaper seemed lame in contrast to Saren from the first game. Saren had a personal connection to the player characters and also came off as a tortured soul, since he was being controlled by the Reapers but still had a sliver of his own free will in there. The Human Reaper was just a big monster, and was way less intriguing.
The boss that comes to my mind is the Lambent Brumak from Gears of War 2. It was epic mowing down hordes of Locusts with the Brumak until it becomes mutated at the end and just stands there taking the Hammer of Dawn until it explodes.
Was surprised it wasn't on here and glad you brought it up. Literally two button presses to kill it. What an absolute disappointment. I guess it was a case of it being about the journey, not the destination. Still a great game.
Im surprised The End from Sonic Frontiers isn’t on this list. I mean the boss fights were hands down the most epic and fun parts of the entire game and for the final boss to be just to be a space invaders boss was very anticlimactic.
Ikaruga, not Space Invaders. And if going off the 1 entry per franchise rule, Time Eater is easily the most disappointing final boss fight in Sonic games. I won't argue if people didn't like The End and considered it anticlimatic (I enjoyed it and didn't find it so), but it's no where near as disappointing as Time Eater.
@@marjosonic that is true the main reason why I said that is like I said before every boss before the end was spectacular. Using supersonic to unoreverse the kaiju like titans attacks and deliver flashy techniques against them really was a blast.

I wish Alduin had a better fight. Like we had to use our other shouts to defeat him instead of taking him out like a normal dragon in the game. Something like he causes this massive storm and you have to use Clear skies to fight him, he covers himself in fire and flies around so we have to aim our Ice shout at him.
I know it's old but I'd also include Mother Brain in Super Metroid. Once you reach a certain point in the fight, which doesn't take much to get to, it's almost impossible to lose. I like that the Metroid saves you and grants you a super weapon but after that you can basically just stand there and hold the shoot button. Was kinda hoping for more.
It was intentionally done that way. Samus had been rescued by the Metroid hatchling and healed her only to be killed by mother brain. Samus, armed with a super laser, in an act of vengeance, blasts mother brain until she is dead. If they really wanted to make it a challenge, they would not have added those scripted sequences throughout the fight. This was because they wanted to make the fight serve the narrative, to leave an impact, which made it all the more memorable. If substance is what you prefer in terms of bosses over spectacle, i respect that. But I don't think its worthy of being on this list though. TL:DR Boss is a playable cutscene that is supposed to serve the story. I respec ur opinion, but I disagree.
I actually enjoyed the final boss fight in "Sonic Generations", since it was pretty cool seeing Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic working together while in their Super forms, and obviously WatchMojo has forgotten about "Sonic Unleashed" and "Sonic Colors" being good 3D Sonic games that were released before it, especially since I know the actual reason for them hating the Sonic franchise in the first place.
What about Gary Smith from "Bully?" We're expecting this great brains vs brawn showdown, but all we got as a scaffold chase scene, taunting, and a final tackle. Seriously, putting that stink bomb in that cheerleader's locker was harder than the final boss in that game!
I enjoyed the human reaper in ME2. Sure the fight is simple. But the design, and of course the reasoning of it in the game, really makes its memorable in a positive way. We've already killed plenty of collectors and its the middle game of a trilogy so we arent going to kill Harbinger yet. If anyone else has suggestions on what a better final boss would be I'd love to hear it!
No it doesn't lol. the human reaper from ME2 was the perfect representation of how awful a lot of the writing was in that game. ME2 had great visuals, voice acting, music, etc. But what really carried it was the characters. The issue is that all of that merely helped hide just how bad the main plot of the game was and how nonsensically it plays out. Seriously, it's clear that almost nothing in the plot was planned out, and the human reaper is the perfect microcosm of the terrible writing. The lore behind the human reaper is just stupid. There's no other way to put it. It's made even worse by the fact that ME1 had a great plot and storytelling. ME2 added a co-lead writer, Mac Walters, and it really, really, really showed. It shows even more in ME3 when he became the lead writer. The human reaper was fine as a 'final boss' in that it was a big monster that you have to fight, and the gameplay was... fine. Not good, but not bad. Just fine. The issue was with the design and the lore implications and how utterly asinine they were lol.
Ganon from BOTW belongs here too. Not only was he easier to beat than the bosses on the sacred beasts or even the stronger lynels, I was really disappointed by the effect the sacred beasts had. There was so much potential for them to help is in creative and distinct ways, but instead they all just shoot him once at the start, making an easy boss fight even shorter 😕
Well, the beams are actually eliminating extra stages to the boss fight. Not flashy and definitely doesn't let you know what they actually did unless you watched a speed run of the game
As a diehard LoZ fan…it’s impossible to disagree with you. That Ganon fight was so underwhelming. Just riding around on a horse shooting light arrows at it? Yep. I was going to comment this exact thing. I did like part 1 of the fight but the final part of just running around on a horse shooting arrows while he stands there was braindead.

@@cxthednalien yeah that’s my only real issue with the fight as well. It takes a while sometimes because the boss move closer and stays further by complete RNG, or at least that’s how it seemed to me
What about Albert Wesker in RE 5? Went from a badass fight in the darkness against a super human to a generic fight against a tentacle doll in the end. Seriosly, even the fight against the boulder was more noticeable than that.
I remember first fighting The Destroyer in BL1 and having to start the whole damn game over again this time with my brother joining me all because I kept running out of ammo during the fight when I was by myself when I got to about 2/3 of its health down…Ridiculous!!!
William Afton in FNAF Security Breach was also somewhat disappointing. Surprised it didn't make the list. Sure, lore-wise it shows that not even death can keep the series's main villain down, there was no build up to his reveal. The right to be final boss should have gone to Vanny. Additionally, Afton's approach to the fight was to throw the animatronics at you. Although a nice nod to the original FNAF, it felt like Afton wasn't the primary threat.
Seth made me believe street fighter was done! He was broken trash that made me give up on the series! But my wife knowing how I grew up playing street fighter since nes… bought me SF6 and after years of the world losing capcom vs snk 2 and Rival Schools into obscurity, and the rest of those awful follow ups, I’m back in the saddle. Side note: I love watch mojo. Been watching since I was in the hospital bed around the beginning of COVID. Much love guys. You helped me relax and make a come back. Thanks
My main problem with the Human/Reaper hybrid is that it makes no sense. According to the lore, new Reapers take the shape of the dominant species, but all the Reapers look basically the same.
Wasn’t the issue that they took the form of the promethians? And then when the reapers had gotten the humans they had transformed into the Husk?? And in ME2 the issue was about the Reapers abducting multiple human colonies?
I remember playing uncharted 1 for the 1st time. It took me so many times to do the boss fight as I kept dying 🤣. Now though it takes me only a few tries to get it done. Still love the game
Braska's Final Aeon is the actual 'final boss' of FFX, just like Safer Sephiroth was the real final boss of FFVII (and not the scripted solo battle afterwards)
There's a difficult dichotomy for games where the antagonist is not some form of 'super creature' or such, but a 'mastermind' or 'leader of troops' type adversary. Colonel Autumn is disappointing for not being a beefy boss fight just for the sake of a beefy boss fight... Frank Fontaine is disappointing for being a beefy boss fight just for the sake of a beefy boss fight. I remember this sort of conversation all the way back to N64 Goldeneye where Alex is a crazy bullet sponge for no reason (other than he's the last boss) despite being just a human in plain clothes. I'm genuinely wondering what the correct answer is when the adversary is Just A Guy who schemes or leads forces. You can go the "sudden overdose on ADAM" or "Nanomachines, son!" route, sure, but that still puts a villain whose primary threat was never physical brutality, in the position of being a primary threat solely of physical brutality, like Joker in Batman for instance dosing up on Titan. Or you can put them in a huge mech or something, but that doesn't feel right unless it's already their schtick (Robotnik and Wiley get a pass on that for instance, but it'd be really weird for Uncharted). How do you close out games with a mastermind type villain (instead of a brute type) satisfactorily, without giving them 11th hour super powers?
Supreme/The End in Sonic Frontiers. They capped off one of the best Sonic games with a carbon-copy of Giganto that's so much easier to fight, and a GALAGA LEVEL??
I'm shocked Gears of War 2 isn't on the list. That's the first thing I think of when I consider the worst final bosses in good games. My personally most hated final boss in a good game though is the one in Dust. That boss is so monotonous and takes so damn long, and if you die at any point, you have to restart the entire thing. It drove me insane.
It's almost like you completely missed the point of King Allant's "true form". It's not supposed to be a super hard boss. It's supposed to be pathetic.
Honestly, I was sure Necron from Final Fantasy 9 would've been on this list, which I consider quite a notorious 'hated' final boss. Like, you hear literally NOTHING about this...thing...the ENTIRE game, and just when you think you beat the final boss in Kuja, this weird blue thing just appears out of nowhere and...THAT'S the final boss? What a letdown.
Warrior in Borderlands 2. At least Handsome Jack had character. After getting hyped through the last part of the game, you could just stand in one spot and never take damage from the Warrior. Great for farming, weak for the story
Joker: "You can't beat me i'm actually going to win.Ready for the next round?" Batman: "Always." Joker: "What?" Batman: "I'll never let you win, never."
Old kind Allant true form isnt a boss fight. The fight before was the him at his peak which was the final fight. His true form was the realization of whats going on
Similar to Neo Cortex in (Crash Bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes Back) I am surprised that the (Gnasty Gnorc) boss fight from (Spyro The Dragon 1998) was not in this list as all is what it is just an chase sequence where you chase him round a obstacle course
For me it's Legaia 2: Duel Saga. I liked the mechanics of the Legaia games, and Cort, the final boss of the first game, was intimidating and memorable. The final boss of the second game, Avalon, is a generic Martial Arts Guy who wants to destroy humanity for... some reason? Also Vexx, because Dark Yabu was frustrating and difficult as hell, and also because the fight was super long and you had to start over at the beginning every time you died, which was often.
I would argue the destroyer in borderlands was supposed to be disappointing. It was a huge lead up to this mysterious vault the whole game and we were met with just a bunch of tentacles. The characters even mention how b.s. it was in the sequels
I will admit the Human Reaper boss fight was a bit of a chore but The concept and design were pretty good in my opinion, It made sense and explained what the Reapers are and what happens to the races that are Harvested and t did give me the chills the first time I saw it
the human reaper from ME2 was the perfect representation of how awful a lot of the writing was in that game. Fighting kronica in mk 11 was a nightmare, she spamms projectiles so much and makes other characters fight for her during the battle so she can heal herself, my tip for you is to just spam your kicks.
The Assassin's Creed 2 entry is valid, but in Germany we have a saying: "Da boxt der Papst" (The pope is boxing) and it's usually used for something good, like a great party or similar 😃
Lucien in Fable 2 I feel should have been higher, he could have unlocked some hero powers or something. Play a music box to beat him? Yeah that was a bit sad
There is one I need to mention: The tattoed lady from Fatal Frame 3. Because it's so difficult. I'm not the one who shy away from challenge, because challenge is rewarding. But that boss is insanely frustrating.
The worst part about Jasper Batt Jr. was the reasoning behind it. Suda 51 made it purposely annoying and unsatisfying to convey the idea that “revenge is ultimately meaningless.” But they could’ve still showcased that without coming at the expense of the gameplay.
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! A lot of interesting bosses for the games that I missed playing. I need to play some of them in the future for sure..!! 🤣
Eveline from Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is the worst final boss fight in RE line up. the fact that you don't move around and it is a camera move type boss. is really boring and she's just a giant mold monster is pretty weak compare to the Baker family and Mother Miranda and The Four Lords in Village.
Agreed. Weirdly over-hated and people exaggerate the swimming away thing. It’s barely an annoyance in the fight imo it takes hardly any time to close the distance
@@Joker-sy4xr my man I’m not gonna lie bosses, hot ass. It is trash. Literally it’s the worst final boss in the souls series even worse than dark souls two and that’s saying some thing
I disagree about Far Cry 3's Hoyt here, because his boss fight was QTE done well, preceded by a very tense Poker game scene, where Hoyt suddenly kills Sam and cuts Jason's finger, then they had tense talk and mutual strikes, and when his hallucination ends we see Jason managed to do a bloodbath in that closed room, not to mention doing a frantic run to save his younger brother Riley. I would easily replace it with Joseph Seed in Far Cry 5, where somehow he suddenly turns all your main guns for hires against you and he multiplies himself during the gunfight... very lame.
Watchmojo: "The boss from Bioshock 1 sucks. Defeating him is a complete bore. You just dodge his attacks and drain his lifebar." Me: Oh, you mean like... every other game in existence that does literally that for a final boss or any enemy in every game?! Seriously?! I had fun with this boss fight.
I don't think Sir Henry was introduced as Henry Cooldown until NMH 3. Henry has the same voice and personality in NMH 1 and 2, but Suda51 changed him in 3 to make him Travis' enemy instead of a friendly rival (like in the first two games).
The human reaper was awesome! Wtf are you guus smoking over there? And the culmination to that point was chef's kiss. Ultimately, it made for an insane suicide mission.
I literally wondered where Joker from Arkham Asylum was... Looks like everyone agrees that the boss is... Very disappointing, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the game is timeless and legendary.
One final boss that I found pretty underwhelming was The Lady in Little Nightmares. The battle against her doesn't last longer than a few minutes, and I found, compared to other enemies, that the whole fight itself was pretty easy. I personally found battling against The Janitor and evading the Twin Chefs to be a hella lot harder. But that's just me.
@@notrueburial Avoiding the Twin Chefs was one of the most terrifying things I've ever had to do in my entire experience in gaming. The music when they chase you is nightmare fuel...

Thanks
I'm honestly impressed that Dark Beast Gannon from BOTW wasn't here.
I saw the headline and I immediately thought of Fontaine and titan joker. Boom 1 and 2. Bravo
Fairfax had to be the most anticlimactic boss I’ve ever faced in a video game 😂 I was on the floor laughing when he died. That game was hilarious
Something I believe worth mentioning is that the Didact in Halo 4 is voiced by Keith Szarabajka, who previously voiced Harbinger in Mass Effect 2.
It's almost like you completely missed the point of King Allant's "true form". It's not supposed to be a super hard boss. It's supposed to be pathetic.
It’s a souls game. If the devs’ goal was to make money off nostalgia blinded people, they succeeded.
4:44 Extra note on Seth's Shoryuken. Play as him, and spam the input to get the multi hit.
Joker: "You can't beat me i'm actually going to win.Ready for the next round?"
Batman: "Always."
Joker: "What?"
Batman: "I'll never let you win, never."
14:25 Wouldn't call the first encounter with Alduin a "battle" as much as it is "desperately running for your fucking life"
You should have added Odin's fight in God of War Ragnarok. The battle was so underwhelming and didn't feel like an epic conclution to the Norse saga.
Praying that everyone falls asleep quickly and has a peaceful sleep. Hope you all wake up happy and well rested
Gnasty Gnorc from the original Spyro? You just have to chase him down, jump over a few platforms and then breath fire on him ONCE.
Old kind Allant true form isnt a boss fight. The fight before was the him at his peak which was the final fight. His true form was the realization of whats going on
Hades Hand From Rayman Legends Should Been On This List
Similar to Neo Cortex in (Crash Bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes Back) I am surprised that the (Gnasty Gnorc) boss fight from (Spyro The Dragon 1998) was not in this list as all is what it is just an chase sequence where you chase him round a obstacle course
So they choose Joker over arkham knight, atleast for joker we had a boss fight. In arkham knight there was no boss fight at all😢.
False. We fought the Knight thrice. Once when he was in the Cloudburst, once when he was in that excavator thing and finally when we rescue Gordon
@@hank780 there was no hand to hand combat against arkham knight like boss fights in other arkham games. It was just his goons that we fought.
@@Gamerx2000CR true those weren't hand-to-hand boss fights, but there were boss fights as well (even if not all were great)
Boo! True King Allant is good! He's meant to be easy!
16:39 I was wondering that this was gonna be on the list lol
For me it's Legaia 2: Duel Saga. I liked the mechanics of the Legaia games, and Cort, the final boss of the first game, was intimidating and memorable. The final boss of the second game, Avalon, is a generic Martial Arts Guy who wants to destroy humanity for... some reason?
Also Vexx, because Dark Yabu was frustrating and difficult as hell, and also because the fight was super long and you had to start over at the beginning every time you died, which was often.
I was hoping for Gears 2. You just hold down the fire button for 30 seconds and you win
I would argue the destroyer in borderlands was supposed to be disappointing. It was a huge lead up to this mysterious vault the whole game and we were met with just a bunch of tentacles. The characters even mention how b.s. it was in the sequels
Honorable mention: Cyril LeParadox (Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time) His entire boss fight was a series of quick-time events. That’s it.
Dying Light's final boss be like:
But it at least serves the narrative.
As a guy who has played a ton of Mario Galaxy 2, i knew the final bowser would be on here
It´s horrible how can a bad final boss can destroy an entire game or franchise
An under whelming but appropriate final boss =/= a bad boss. Now a unfit or out of place final boss, absolutely.
Dr. Neo Cortex in Crash Bandicoot 2 for sure!!
How was Gannon in breath of the wild not on this list
Gary Smith from Bully. He was just a regular enemy repainted as a boss, albeit with a button mashing sequence every once in a while.
Im surprised you guys didn't mention Eveline from Resident Evil 7
I will admit the Human Reaper boss fight was a bit of a chore but The concept and design were pretty good in my opinion, It made sense and explained what the Reapers are and what happens to the races that are Harvested and t did give me the chills the first time I saw it
the human reaper from ME2 was the perfect representation of how awful a lot of the writing was in that game.
I think people are forgetting that the plot for Arkham city is so good because of the final boss in Arkham Asylum
Fighting kronica in mk 11 was a nightmare, she spamms projectiles so much and makes other characters fight for her during the battle so she can heal herself, my tip for you is to just spam your kicks.
Can you do Top 20 Greatest Final Bosses of all time?
The Assassin's Creed 2 entry is valid, but in Germany we have a saying: "Da boxt der Papst" (The pope is boxing) and it's usually used for something good, like a great party or similar 😃
Lucien in Fable 2 I feel should have been higher, he could have unlocked some hero powers or something. Play a music box to beat him? Yeah that was a bit sad
There is one I need to mention: The tattoed lady from Fatal Frame 3. Because it's so difficult. I'm not the one who shy away from challenge, because challenge is rewarding. But that boss is insanely frustrating.
the big let down about our final encounter with alduin is the fact that he only uses two shouts
Top Ten Hardest 1st Bosse in Video Games
That big giant fat ass cyclops in prince of Persia: the two thrones.
My List:
1: God - The Simpsons Game
2: Gary - Bully
3: Egg Spinner - Sonic CD
4: Ryo Watanabe - NFS Prostreet
5: Ganon - Zelda Breath of the Wild
This video just made me remember how much gaming standards have slipped 😢
I like the final boss fight in uncharted a lot, you just need to be careful. And Alduin was not easy at all, more like frustrating.
I liked the Time Eater and Bowser from Mario Galaxy 2
Eredin in Witcher 3 deserve to be on this list
Elden Beast was fantastic.
The music, arena, artstyle, atmosphere was perfect.
Agreed. Weirdly over-hated and people exaggerate the swimming away thing. It’s barely an annoyance in the fight imo it takes hardly any time to close the distance
Nah the last 4 or 5 bosses in elden ring were trash
@@Joker-sy4xr my man I’m not gonna lie bosses, hot ass. It is trash. Literally it’s the worst final boss in the souls series even worse than dark souls two and that’s saying some thing
No, my brother boss is trash really really bad
@@mansfieldetienne4984 it’s just not though.
I would easily replace it with Joseph Seed in Far Cry 5, where somehow he suddenly turns all your main guns for hires against you and he multiplies himself during the gunfight... very lame.
Ezio wasn't "allowed" to kill him in AC2, because the Pope didn't die until 1503.
Watchmojo: "The boss from Bioshock 1 sucks. Defeating him is a complete bore. You just dodge his attacks and drain his lifebar."
Me: Oh, you mean like... every other game in existence that does literally that for a final boss or any enemy in every game?! Seriously?!
I had fun with this boss fight.
I'm glad YuYevom is on here
I don't think Sir Henry was introduced as Henry Cooldown until NMH 3. Henry has the same voice and personality in NMH 1 and 2, but Suda51 changed him in 3 to make him Travis' enemy instead of a friendly rival (like in the first two games).
I have to disagree on frank fontaine on this list. That boss is hard depending on how bad you are at the game.
The human reaper was awesome! Wtf are you guus smoking over there?
And the culmination to that point was chef's kiss.
Ultimately, it made for an insane suicide mission.
No it wasn't it was dogshit
This list can't possibly be complete without...
(gets to #8)
Nevermind, we're good.
1:49 Cortex just had to get to the Cortex Vortex on his space station. He didnt have time to battle Crash
4:50 4:51 I actually liked Time Eater.
Both of these were stressful as shit The Lady was a cakewalk in comparison
@@notrueburial Avoiding the Twin Chefs was one of the most terrifying things I've ever had to do in my entire experience in gaming. The music when they chase you is nightmare fuel...
7:42...
I Felt They Made Halo4's Final Fight Like That, Because They Really Wanted "Cortana" to "Save TheDay"...& That Ending Made Ya "Dependant" on "Cortana".
(From What I Remember.🤔)
Ezio killing Borgio wouldn't be historically accurate
No sign of DJ Octavio from Splatoon 2. Good.
the human reaper from ME2 was the perfect representation of how awful a lot of the writing was in that game. Can you do comic book origin of DC Kilgore and Marvel's Arcade?
They should have given Alduin the ability to summon 3-4 Dremora warriors or a bunch of high level Draugr. Honestly would have made the fight way more interesting.
"Let not show honorable or dishonorable mentions like we used to, let's instead beg for subs several times before the end, because once or twice isn't enough throughout a 18 minute video!" - Watchmojo
Andrew Ryan wasn't beaten to death with his own cane - it was a golf club.
Great bosses D-Mob and Crow from the first two Def Jam Vendetta games
Skyrim is one of those games I put about a thousand hours in and only actually beat once
