Thank you for sharing this video. I haven't been able to visit Antigua (which I considered as my second home) since 2013. I was actually there when my mother died, I returned home (to Trinidad) immediately, and haven't been back since. It was really good to see some familiar places, where I drove, and walked many times. I spent a lot of time in that Internet Cafe whenever I visited. Thanks again for the memories...
Thank God we can cruise again!!!! Going on this same cruise in October, 2021. Simply cannot wait!!!! Thank you so much for the video. It is the light at the end of what was a very long, dark "cruise travel" tunnel.
I love how you created this video of the port. We spend so much money on the cruise itself that we don't always have extra money for shore excursions. I like knowing that you easily take a short walk and see quite a few things. I will definitely subscribe to your channel and hit notifications. I hope to see other port walk throughs like this one. I also appreciate you showing the map and the path you took. Very helpful.
So you prefer going on a cruise and not seeing anything in the island vs going to an island directly and spending time there? The main draw of a Caribbean holiday for me anyways is the nature (both on land and in water - diving hiking etc) and eating delicious local food and fresh fish. If you opt to take an expensive cruise cruise and not leave the boat you’re missing the entire Caribbean and you could literally be anywhere in the world. What’s the point?
@@BigA1921 Yeah, I don't understand her comment. She is clearly getting what she's paying for, then complaining that she can't afford shore excursions. Don't pay for the most expensive room with a balcony or window looking at miles and miles of water, and you'll be able to afford a shore excursion. Someone told me if you enjoy sight-seeing don't do a cruise, because for most people the point of a cruise is to hang out and party on a boat. However, it's still possible to do both if you're smart about it. If you're sort of just collecting countries and don't really care about taking the place in, then a cruise might be for you. But I agree, that it's stupid to spend thousands of dollars to go to a foreign country and not even experience it. If you just want to hang out on a boat, there are cruises within the U.S. that you can take. I've been to nine Caribbean islands and didn't visit any of them by cruise ship. I would much rather island hop using the local ferries, and visit the islands I want to visit, instead of being restricted to the schedule and itinerary the cruise company sets up.
Pensioners Beach is about a 2 mile walk from the ship. We did not go there. But we enjoyed just walking around. Thank you for your comments and thank you for subscribing to our channel.

We don't really know about the poverty in the Caribbean. We're sure there is some. We have videos of all of the ships we've been on in the past few years, and the cabins we've stayed in, on our TH-cam channel. Check it out! Thanks for your comments and thanks for subscribing to our channel.
Officially YES, but having explored quite a bit of the region, poverty there looks very different. I don't really know how to explain it. There is "poverty" once you get outside the tourist areas, but you usually won't see homelesses or beggars. Some of the islands have high unemployment rates, but a lot of the people in the people are self-sufficient. They can't afford vacations or fancy shoes, but they have enough to survive. And the crime rates are also quite high. Though this is much less prevalent on the European islands. The poverty is much more obvious in Trinidad and the Greater Antilles, where you actually have shanty towns. The average tourist though will usually not be exposed to these poor/dangerous areas.

Thanks for your comments. On St. John's, Antgua there are a couple of beaches about 2 1/2 miles away from the dock. On St. Kitt's there are some beaches about 4 miles away. We did not go to those beaches, so we cannot say how they are. We did take a tour on St. Kitt's called "Catamaran Fan-Ta-Sea to Nevis". I am not from Antigua I'm from St. Kitts, but the guy is not aware that the island was hit by hurricanes in recent times starting with Hurricane Hugo in 1989, hurricane George's and a few others, which could explain certain uneven areas. He seem to be a bit critical.

@@ENGLISHMURPHY Britain did little but extract from Antigua tbh. The rise in living standards before and after independence is profound - it is now a well off island. However the streets of St Johns itself are a bit of an eyesore.
Beautiful island... I love looking at places like the cathedral, but unfortunately beings that they don't usually have ADA compliant regulations, it is very difficult for me to see a lot of those types of places...
I actually had to go back and re-watch this video. To Port Monkey...I mean no disrespect, but I am not from Antigua but I know the Caribbean fairly well. I really had to cringe at more than just a few comments. You seem to be filming this with the intent to build up your "Port Monkey" channel, but I was actually glad when this video ended. I am scanning through what jumped out at me in your commentary, and there is not a whole lot of praise for this town or island. Yes...lots of touristy things...they all have them, but you didn't say much other than point out the inconveniences. No street signs....I saw quite a few...and often they actually put a street sign on the corner of a building. I saw some signs...but you didn't read them. The broken grills....yes, will they be there in two years? Who knows....who cares? Rough streets....yes...OLD settlement going back about 500-600 years!...and who knows how many hurricanes? I remember the word "quaint" being used when I lived in Europe in war-riddled areas being restored. The church was fabulous! It was massive and had been rebuilt at least two times more recently. Thank you for making a donation! That was the best part of your video. Why point out the public facilities and then add a comment that you chose to not use them...and sounded like someone needed to? What was the name of the place you stopped and had a beer? Local beer! Was it good? I wish I had a dollar for every time you pointed out the cruise ships.....much more than complimenting the community. A visit with a local resident would have been nice. I'm so sorry to be so blunt.....but I don't have a desire to see another video. Take care, and think like an ambassador to where you are visiting and make your tour more upbeat and less about you.
The prison for girls comment is just a typical dumb American tourist comment, not surprised. Outside of the tourist area the place seemed depressing, definitely not quaint. I didnt see any litter on the streets which was nice. After seeing this video I would grab a taxi once off the ship to one of the beautiful beaches. 👍
"The church is 175 years old" "Is that all" Probably older that most of the buildings in the USA. I know this was meant to be a joke but came accross disrespectful.
Longchamp is an exclusive haute couture label in France. They, among many other famous brands, have outlets in many exotic duty-free locations. The locals may pronounce it differently, but the proper pronunciation is "Lon-chom"...the g and p are silent. Google how to pronounce these words if you are going to do a series of tourist videos. You are not doing the port any favors by mispronouncing names and places. Good luck.
I am seeing in the news that many folks that didn't like the cruises coming to their island are getting their wish. I just pray the island does well without the ships. GOD bless you ALL. HUGS and blessings. 👣🏝🎶😎. Ty for sharing your adventures
That was a LIE. Why would locals NOT want cruise business when the country's economy depends on it? Carnival was trying to bully Antigua - Point Blank, and that's the story they served to the media.
The Port Monkeys home port is Los Angeles, CA, so we don't really experience humidity. Any humidity seems like a lot. Thanks for your comments. Please subscribe to our channel.
If you are truly island hopping you should already know the best time in the year to travel to get the coolness of the oceans. You probably hang around CA a lot which makes it impossible for you to experience a great vacation. Next time take CA air with you or stay where you are. Don't visit then use your camera to high light your complaints and misfortunes. Best HS education offered without dropouts. But you would not know that, right?
@@neneferti3887 I have to agree with a lot of what you said. I've been to about a dozen different islands in the Caribbean and each place may be somewhat similar in climate, but a different jewel in the crown. A truly comprehensive and planned video itinerary with knowledge and a broader range would be a more respectful presentation. A quickie video during a day excursion to present on TH-cam isn't really beneficial to the location. I don't mean the typical tourist tours either. Hidden treasures and places the locals like mixed in with some truthful history would be worth subscribing to a channel. Take care.
Yes it is.. Too bad these people missed it. A port is a port is a port. To discover Antigua you must get away from the cruise ship port. Go to the beaches, Darkwood or Jolly beach. Nelsons dockyard, the devils bridge. There is soooo much more to see.. Too bad...

Not An-tee-gwuh.”" Encontramos esto en Internet (¿puedes creer lo que lees en Internet): "" Nunca antes has estado en el Caribe y estás empezando por Antigua? " Los amigos dicen esto cuando se enteran de mi próximo debut en las Indias Occidentales, como si hubiera un orden adecuado para irrumpir en las Antillas. "Además", dice otro, "es An-tee-guh. It sounds like you stay home quite a bit and have such bad experiences at your home. You should travel to places like the safari in your neighborhood. When visiting caribbean islands - sounds like you haven't yet, take a good attitude with you and breathe. BTW, Antigua should not be on your list since you won't appreciate our beautiful culture. Book a different island - like Jamaica and have FUN.

We try to show the walking conditions in every port we visit. Many cities have uneven surfaces you should be wary of. Thank you for your comments and don't forget to subscribe.
What’s the currency in the ports?
Unfortunately, almost every island has their own currency. Fortunately, though, they all take US dollars. Thank you for your comments and thank you for subscribing to our channel.

It literally said Antigua girls “High School” how could you confuse that with a prison 🤦🏽♀️
astrid burdon As we approached, we couldn’t read the sign. It had a look of a minimum security prison. Which many schools do. Thank you for your comments and we hope you are a subscriber.

What are you using to record video? It's a very nice picture quality.
For this video we used a GoPro Hero 5. Now we are using a GoPro Hero 7. Thanks for you comments and we hope you subscribe to our channel.
any snorkling there that you know of? or do you have to buy an excursion?
We did not go snorkeling here, but the water is very clear. There is a beach, Fort James Beach, 1.5 miles from the ship to the left as you get off. Please subscribe to our channel.
christine E you can snorkel almost anywhere. It's amazing. Cades reef is a must.
How much does it cost to buy food with USD compared to food prices in Pennsylvania?

It's about time they fixed up the streets in St John's.
Mr C is this nice country?
Free
They wanted independence and now can’t look after themselves
@@supergenius5267 Yes
@@ENGLISHMURPHY Britain did little but extract from Antigua tbh. The rise in living standards before and after independence is profound - it is now a well off island. However the streets of St Johns itself are a bit of an eyesore.
What Camera are you using?
Most of the time we use a GoPro Hero 5. But also an iPhone and a small Canon camcorder.
Beautiful island... I love looking at places like the cathedral, but unfortunately beings that they don't usually have ADA compliant regulations, it is very difficult for me to see a lot of those types of places...
That's too bad. Thanks for your comment. Please subscribe to our channel.
We tried to get the free wifi at Cheers.......It was poor, and doesn't work
We find that in many places. But sometimes it's better that onboard the ship. Thanks for your comments and we hope you subscribe.

Thank you for your comments and thank you for subscribing to our channel.
You are alwau😢aware if where the ships are… street smart 😊

I'm Antiguan but I don't like when those cruises go there. They push water in and our houses are on low levels so it splashes us...

It's pronounced "key" and "Longchamp", not longchomp.
Is English your native language?
Ha ha ha! No, we speak American. Thanks for your comments and we hope you are a subscriber.
Good luck.
👍👍👍
Thanks for the thumbs!
Antigua is beautiful but needs alot of work to do with the town... un even as the tourist says
Most places do, including our town. Thanks for your comments and we hope you subscribe.
Many don't, many do.
Interesting film. Quay should be pronounced as 'key'
Now we know. Thank you for your comments. We hope you subscribe to our channel.
@0:22. "Hot and Humid Caribbean" No, New York is Hot and Humid. Texas and Florida is a furnace.
Take care.

Antigua is truly a beautiful island
Yes it is.. Too bad these people missed it. A port is a port is a port. To discover Antigua you must get away from the cruise ship port. Go to the beaches, Darkwood or Jolly beach. Nelsons dockyard, the devils bridge. There is soooo much more to see.. Too bad...
@@ron777ish I agree with you 200%. Funny...I made a few videos about a few of those exact same spots that you mention. :-)

We found this on the internet (can you believe what you read on the internet): "“You've never been in the Caribbean before and you're starting with Antigua?” Friends say this when they hear about my upcoming West Indies debut, as though there's a proper order for breaking into the Antilles. “Also,” says another, “it's An-tee-guh. Not An-tee-gwuh.”"
No An-tee-gwuh".
Lol... which you thought was a prison is a girls school

That's funny, how embarrasing to be the last one on.
We see it in almost every port. Sometimes they don't make it in time.
He made one MAJOR mistake. That was NOT a prison for girls. It was a HIGH SCHOOL called ANTIGUA GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL. Next time perhaps look properly or ask a local.

Excuse me!! Antigua is NOT that kind place!!! If incidents like that happen you can literally count them on fingers LITERALLY! Antigua has the most amiable and welcoming people you will ever meet compared to where YOU come from and other parts of the world! SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT !!!!!!!!
Obviously this guy cant read, calling a girls high school a prison for girls and the sign is right infront his eyes which read high school, smh
