Good explanation for people who aren't used to black metal. When you learn to hear the subtle stuff among the wall of sound it's amazing. If you stare into the darkness long enough, you will see true beauty. For me, the best way to listen to black metal is "close your eyes and feel the music flow through you".
Oh, you need to listen to all of the Blackbraid II album when you've got time, it's fantastic. I'm also someone who isn't fully into black metal, but I can't stop listening to this, some of the variety this guy (it's a solo project) puts into his music makes it very accessible- there are some passages that I would say are like blackened doom and even a thrash part on one song, as well as acoustic Native American folk passages with flute. The 13+ minute epic "Moss Covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon" is a masterpiece, imo. I also love "Twilight Hymn of Ancient Blood", for the above mentioned variety, it's like half Doom, half Thrash, all with the black vocals, there's even a shredding solo in there.
dude you sold me. I gotta hear those songs. I really liked this, and I really want to get more into black metal. I love when bands make it easy for folks who might not be into it, to dive into it.
I liked it, even the harsh vocals which, somehow, just seemed to fit. When I saw the name "Sacandaga" my first thought was that it sounded like many of the Native American place names in my part of the country, NY State. So I did a little digging and, yes, Sacandaga is the name of a lake in the Adirondacks. The lead singer is a Mohawk, one of the Five Nations Confederation that goes all the way back to 1200 AD. The scenery was very familiar. Not that I had ever been there, but that it looked like the plants and terrain that I have spent my life wandering around in.
I frequently find myself under the influence of a certain magic cactus listeing to this amazing album. If you heart is open enough to hear it for what it is, this song is extremely powerful and pregnant with emotion. The speed and blast beats carry the melody in a very intense way, lifting it on wings of white noise. It is expansive, the way that other uplifting spiritual music is. The intensity of it can be an exercise in just surrendering to what is and as another commenter said, let it flow through you and be willing to not fight it. The best black metal, or at least my favorite, contains some magical combination of anglst, sadness, suffering, beauty and empowerment through expression. I think at least deep down, it does not express anything that every person has not felt, but some of which most try to bury. How's that working for you lol. Near the end of a recent cactus ceremony, I couldn't decide if I wanted to just sit and be in one of the most peaceful states I could remember being in in my life, or fumble my way to my car to get my headphones and listen to this ha ha. Fucking awesome. Another favorite is Gorgoroth especially Properity and Beauty and or Of Ice and Movement.
Oh Yes! You remembered. And yes, what you said about black metal, it really has SO many styles and levels. Plus all the combinations, like black/death, black/doom etc etc..... If you like to dig deeper into this, I can give you some bands: ColdCell : "Scapegoat Season" (from their latest album "The Greater Evil") Decline Of The I : "The Veil Of Splendid Lies" Schammasch : "Metanoia" / "Above The Stars Of God". Their "Triangle" and "Hearts Of No Light" albums are just so damn good. One of my all time faves, Ved Buens Ende.... who did only one album, "Written In Waters" in 1995. They were an avant-garde black metal. Songs like "I Sang For The Swans" and "Carrier Of Wounds". Ofnus : "Grains Of Sand" White Ward : "Phoenix" Definitely check these guys out, if nothing else. They have a saxophone.... Imperial Triumphant : "Atomic Age" I could just go on, but I bet you already have a ton of all kinda bands on your check list 😂
That is the good thing about black metal. The subgenres within the main genre have so much to offer. I land in the predominantly black/thrash camp, but there is always a band I can find an emotional connection with regardless of the subgenre they belong to. DSBM is generally rough for me to get into, but there are still a couple bands I can dig.
@@mindtraveller100I live in Maryland, caught them in Baltimore on 11OCT. I was sad to find out that this was actually their second North American tour. I’ll never miss another.
Black metal for me is very hit or miss, like either i love it or i just find it really boring but this goes into the hit category. I've seen there is a lot of hype around Blackbraid and for a good reason it seems.
That wasn't too bad. I'm a total virgin when it comes to black metal, but I'm intrigued. I don't dig too much the evil looks in black metal, but I did enjoy the music... Did you know Tuomas from Nightwish has a black metal side-project called "Darkwoods My Betrothed" ? And some people from Cellar Darling have a black metal ("Forest of Fog") and a blackmetal/Darkwave side project ("Nighted"). If people from my favorite bands apparently have black metal side projects, so maybe I'm missing on something.
Thats why i'm trying to dive into it here. Cause just like how I hated growls and harsh vocal but then one day I heard Opeth and it changed everything. I believe we can find some bands in this genre that will expand our mind.
"Did you know Tuomas from Nightwish has a black metal side-project called "Darkwoods My Betrothed" ?" Really? I´m a NightWish fan since 1999 and i did not know that. I have to check it out.

well said❤
My grandmother was also full blooded Cherokee. I loved the pictures of nature in this video. The music is full speed energy.

I'm soooo glad you liked this!
I haven't listened to Black metal for quite a long time and this song got me. I'mma listen to more of their songs, cause this is REALLY good!
Blackbraid II is one of my top albums of the year. Blew me away, pissed I missed them on tour with Dark Funeral this year
Dude I'm gonna have to get that album
One of his best songs imo is Moss Covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon. Like the title, it's a long song (almost 14 min) but it's quite the journey.
Second this

I just saw Blackbraid and Gaerea last Thursday! So good. Moss Covered Bones on the Alter of the Moon is a great song to check out by Blackbraid
Dude, I cant wait to go down this rabbit hole
Blackbraid is awesome! I believe it's a solo project and he has a live band for shows. I think Native American lore is perfect for Black Metal! 🤘🤘
Blackbraid , like Blackbriar, both are awesome!
Agreed!
to this song: first thought was "please stop it" but then i was unable to click pause. dragging, yet simple.
Blackbraid, GAEREA, Wolves In The Throne Room. All in the same show, massive lineup. Still a few shows left on the tour... lifetime memory.
Where are you from? Gaerea are from my country.

@@D3ADPO3TRY Yeah, they are good. Thanks for the answer.
Not typically a fan of black metal but this was pretty good
Hell yes
Cool to see you do this just a few days after I misread Blackbriar and thought it said Blackbraid 😂 I assume it's been requested before
lol I wanted to surprise you
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody well, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I had no idea you have native American blood 😀

I like a lot. Everyth.
YESSS
Glad you you got to this, such a great band. Go buy both albums like I did 😀
Now you need some Moonlight Sorcery in your life 😉
Dude, I'm gonna do a Moonlight Sorcery reaction.
@@TheWolffAndTheMelodyYou'll love them :) In Coldest Embrace is a great song to start with 😉
It can be a tad intense. The albums are a journey and the album artwork is ridiculous.
