@Me1234utube we just self warranty, I find these companies are only any good to get a sale, plenty of blurb, any garage, peace of mind, for say 150 quid they don't want to pay out, James does better than most as his channels advertising for them, in my experience these companies just don't pay out. It basically gives the customer and the garage owners false hope.
The Yard is looking so much better. Fair play to the warranty company to look at their process. I will say your customer service is the best out there.

Hi James. I have a2010 Nissan note auto petrol. When researching (5 years ago) the cvt gearbox was well known as the worst of the cat's so I avoided it.The note is a very underrated car no issues so far (80,000mls). New model not so much. Timing chain - no issues but known to stretch and rattle on the Quashqua! Upgrade outside is well worth it! Another step forward. Best wishes.
WOW, what a difference a few tons of shingle makes! The yard looks the business now, personally id add 10% on the sticker prices to reflect the new prestigious ambience! Top job, well done.
Hi James how much for the Ital? With at least 6 months warranty with recovery, as I'm planning a twice around the World tour? Obviously everything is covered as its only 30+ years old and nothing will go wrong.
Just got rid of my Nissan Qashqai 1.5 Diesel at 95K miles. Had it for 4 years and was still getting 60mpg+ on a run. Great car. Plus it was road tax free .
But she paid something like £10k for that car and it's only lasted 8 months. She won't pay the finance and the company will probably take James to court.
It was about the first Qashqai back in 2007 that they went downhill. Before then they were solid as a Toyota or Honda The X-Trail is a particular pity because they're nice to drive, well equipped, and comfy. That X-Trons CVT is the worst part, other than that they're just prone to little gremlins and niggles like dash squeaks, leaking sunroofs, climate issues etc. finish isn't the best and they rapidly look rough if not well treated.
Nissan CVT's have always been a pile of junk, they fail with 0-150000 miles on them. It's not if, but when. Reason they haven't been fixed by Nissan is that they own the Company that makes the darn things. They have no incentive to make them better and won't. Nissan themselves always find a way not to warranty their failed CVT's. Buy one and you're on your own. Total CRAP.
@@jmayeux32 TBH, most cars are scrapped before 150,000 so that often isn't an issue. The CVT isn't great. I wouldn't have one but many people have no issues. It's actually a risk worth taking if it's cheap enough. If. Big if.
Wish there were, and I believe there are, more like you. Bought an Austin Healey Sprite from 1960 back in March of this year and though I probably didn’t check it enough, it’s costed me £18,000 to put right after spending £18,000 on the car in the first place. Basically had a partial restoration. If you looked at it before you wouldn’t think it’d take £18,000 to fix but I’ve had old bodged repairs, basically a mechanical overhaul, it’s got a gearbox rebuild. £18-22,000 is top dollar for a sprite and the dealer has put £750 towards the car. This is of course supplying it with 15 year old tires and a spare from 2009 that looked like it spent it’s life with the titanic and a duff clean MOT with MOT failures. Not going to tar everyone with the same brush but it’s that kind of dealer that gives the industry a bad name.
You’re right about older cars being more reliable. I’ve got a 2005 Toyota avensis petrol 1.8, I’ve only done suspension, brakes, wheel bearing, brake pipes, start motor, alternator, battery, in the 5 years I’ve owned it. Never had an issue with the actual running of the engine, or gearbox/clutch
Last Nissan we owned was a '97 Primera from new, which had a 2 litre petrol and was rock solid. Replaced it with an almost bullet proof 2003/53 Toyota Avensis 2 litre D4D, again from new. Turbo went on it at 95k, was uneconomical to repair so traded it on. Ended up in Dublin as a taxi.
You are exactly right about newer cars, I would not touch any car that has anything except a manual or traditional auto box (with toured converter) nothing with a three cylinder engine, or any diesel under 2 litre with a turbocharger ( possibly 1.5 dci Renault engine in a smaller car) also very low mileage older diesels fitted with DPF’s as they generally use the following route - school - home, supermarket - home …DPF repairers - home !!. 💣
Shingle looks great! that 1.6dci Nissan engine is a Renault R9M engine. You like them in Mercedes don't you? Luckily we get the Nissan engines down under
Shouldn't this be a call to arms for the Motor ombudsman and the DVSA? If warranty insurers have the information on "known" bad/unreliable parts then shouldn't the regulator be making recalls for these parts mandatory? I mean if the information/data is there, why aren't they doing anything to protect consumers and other business further down the pipeline?
This 1.6 dci isn't well known for faults so id not rule out future xtrails in manual. They are a really handsome motor with good presence and many with 7 seats which is a plus.
Hi James, brilliant investment to get the frontage done. Makes the place look amazing. Have you thought about how you are going to arrange the cars now?
The 1.6 DCI is a Renault engine. There is no nissan sold after 2012 without a co developed or inbuilt Renault engine. 1.5 DCI is K9K and 1.6 DCI is R9M. The MK1 Xtrails with the 2.0 DCI is, yep a Renault M9R commonly found in the last of the luganas and Traffics.
Nissan's connections with Renault is what did for their reliability reputation. Shame as the cars are quite nice to drive and some even look quite good. Mazda & Toyota if you want Japanese reliability.
the Renault 1.5 DCI is a fantastic engine, i done over a million miles without a single fault on them! - now they have stopped using it ive moved over to the 0.9 turbo petrols - not so confident in these!
These X Trails are great but admittedly ours was manual. 1.6 diesel has plenty power 130bhp, timing chain Renault engine I believe. The only gremlin was that front radar behind the bumper which was thankfully sorted under warranty as I gather they cost a packet and are known to fail.
I bought a low mileage Qashqai 17 plate 1.5dci 3 years ago and have had to have all four injectors changed at various times. The car has still only done 28,000 miles. APPARENTLY there was a problem with Bosch injectors in 2017 or so. They are over £500+ fitted. The injector bit is OK it’s the electrical gubbins fitted on the top of it that fails.
James can you explain to me why you have to deal with warranty claims and are out of pocket rather than the policy holder going direct to them to make a claim
The 1.6 diesel is also a Renault engine had a 1.6 diesel Qashqai on a 2014 for 5 years only replaced a battery and normal servicing in the who time was a great car but I wouldn’t touch a cvt one
UK really need to follow the US and take manufacturers to task on these common/manufacturing faults. Its ridiculous that either yourselves as dealers or us as customers get left with a bill for something that has been engineered to fail. Its bad enough the level of general maintenance some newer cars need now just to keep them going day to day
I know you say that Nissans are not what they used to be and I wont argue with that but I worked for a manufacturing company for about 35 years (not the car industry) and eventually we had to manufacture to the market price. Clients would comment that our quality was not what it was when we were regarded as top of the tree on quality but in reality clients were not prepared to pay the real value of that quality so to stay in business we had to engineer to the increasingly tight prices the lesser quality competitors offered. You get what you pay for. You cant get Champaign for Prosecco money. Don't blame the manufacturers who have to do the same job for less money and have to cut both standards and jobs to stay in the market.
Look at it this way. If modern petrol/diesel cars continue to be unreliable, the more likely new buyers will be to go for an electric car. And manufacturers desperately want to sell their electric cars
Trouble is with finance people think it's under warranty while their making payments, any faults and it's I'm stopping paying! As you say bud, even mths down the line finance company will unwind the deal.
Back in the 80s and before cars were rotted out before they were 10 years old and completely worthless .As someone who worked in trade since the early 80s, car build quality today is on a different level dont believe all the crap when people say things where better back in the day, they weren't !
I have a vauxhall vivaro ( renault trafic ) with the 1.6dci engine, it's currently eating coolant, I think it's the egr cooler as it's aluminium and not stainless. Get it pressure tested to prove it's the head gasket. Might have been overheated because it was low on coolant and now has blown the head gasket . My van has no temperature gauge so you wouldn't know it was overheating until it was to late . Crap design .
That 1.5 dci isn't that great bud, injectors fail for fun, I had a turbo claim the other mth, only good thing is it's a belt engine so no chain to stretch. Unfortunately you can't get your sort of margins on older cheapies, you've sold loads, and loads with really good (high profit) so it's not all bad. In my view anyone who's done finance will be out of business, claims are going to double from what finance companies thought, then guess what? They'll come onto dealers for their commission, so you might not be doing too badly.
So the warranty company will update their process to show what they will not cover for certain parts like the Nissan CVT for 'known manufacturer issues' but still won't precisely say which component in that part is the known failure they are declining for? sounds like a plus for any warranty company to just list a load of items on a vehicle they won't cover based on a google search for 'known faults'. Sounds like they agreed to pay 50% after you're argument of that exact question to them so all they've done is shut down that argument now ever being put to them. Warranties will become even more worthless.....😮
Pour some K-Seal into the engine. A permanent coolant repair without taking the engine apart. I put some in my 40 year old Fiat Ducato motorhome after coolant in the engine issue and the K_Seal fixed it, that was over five years a go.
@@theolddog5129 It isn't like the Holts stuff. I have no blockages in the coolant system yet after putting it in a few years ago. Even if the heater matrix were to block, putting the heater control to cold will divert the coolant away from the matrix then where the hoses out & in to the heater matrix can be disconnected to be flushed without going anywhere near the heater matrix. Nor does it block the thermostat.
Nissans have really been Renault's for quite a few years, basically since the joint venture in 2002 the parts and designs have become gradually worse. Exception is the 1.5dci diesel engine which was a joint Renault/Nissan/Mercedes development in 2001.
Nissan was really reliable when they designed their own engines, but now they share too much with Renault and the quality isn't there anymore, at least with ICE cars
Way that cars gone bud you'd have been as well with a complete gteed good full engine and box, bet you'd have got the whole thing for 2k from a late crashed one, but that's benefit of hindsight, obviously whoever got it into you knew of the box woes, I always run em around for a while and check coolant level, unfortunately she'll have not done that so you'll not know how much it's been leaking, hopefully it's oil cooler, there'll be oil in coolant, if it's clear it's head, head gasket jobs on diesels are particularly nasty due to the high compression required for combustion, it's like 450 psi where a petrol car might be 180 psi. I've had em where heads gone and there's not enough compression to start it. Heads gone like a banana and too warped to skim up.
There was a 1.6 petrol Pulsar from 2015 on with about 190bhp which was always a bit of a curiosity with that power level. Interested to know if anyone ever experienced one.
Fords with the wet belt design have now bought belt replacement times down still expensive job. Vauxhall Vectra early shape timing belt tensioner fault which they knew about . I think it was Watch Dog back in the day highlighted it.
It'll be a 1.6, they dont come in 1.5. They are indeed spot on. I think Chops got unlucky with this one. The French make better diesels than the Japs. You dont want a Mazda or Toyota derv for sure.
James, this Nissan case may be tricky for you, because although she bought it from you 8 months ago, how long in that 8 months did you spend fixing it ? If the repair took 2 months then she only had the use of it for 6 months, so near to the 6 month "warranty". What does the law say about this ?
Cashcows seemed to be popular with the PCP wallys , couldnt afford a car till these shite deals appeared, poorly looked after , handed back as couldnt afford to buy after 3 years. Plastic range Rover Sports for the hp chavs.
it makes me laugh how warranty companies only want to cover things that dont break! its rediculous, if there was no fault on delivery, they should cover it if a fault develops later 😕also i remember my dad buying new nissan sunny's and almera's in the 80s and 90s and they were 100% reliable before renault took over.
Your right to help on the Nissan bud, you don't want her going to the finance company and it ends up in auction and you making up the difference, as finance companies are under pressure they'll take no prisoners. Quote her full retail and say you'll go half on repair, let's hope it's a head gasket job, still going to be 600,might be oil cooler, sign of head gone is oil in the coolant, maybe water cooled egr valve? Problem with these late weak engines you end up with another engine. Going forward 3 mths warranty, strict, customers don't know about pre existing faults and all that, if it's 3 mths, good chance they'll not bother you after, probably no finance either as its a bit of a loaded gun these days.
@ from what i have heard and read some of honda cvt’s not too clever so those service intervals make sense, the only honda i owned was torque converter auto.
The garage I worked for yrs ago lost the waranty company they used as the claims were so high from that garage the sold mainly vauxhalls and ex lease cars never seen so many cars needing engine rebuilds lol
Read car dealer magazine bud, customer has just lost a case exactly the same as this. They couldn't prove the coolant loss was there at time of sale, it was after 6 mths and they lost. I'm not suggesting you don't assist but maybe mention this. It's regrettable it's happend, but after 6 mths it's nothing really to do with you, it's just one of those things.
Hi. I'm just scrap 2014 nissan juke 1.5 diesel. Had it for 7 months and had problems with injectors with only 78K on the clock.Spend tons of cash on it and still was running like a pig. Nissan are crap thouse days.
Noticed lee from Car Uk doesn't touch much after 2014 so what's going happen to the " cheapy" market when 10 years old is 2017/8 ?. Wet belts / pure Tech / anything JLR all to the crushers?? Interesting Times ahead.
If that's the lady who ran out of fuel, you can't rely on her to have kept an eye on the water bud, hopefully it's not boiled it, people tend to just keep going. Let's hope it's just the oil cooler and it's only lost a bit, she's been to another garage as well, which never helps.
I just remembered had message in October 10th saying red light had come on but went off. Told her to get in garage. Nothing in-between then and now. Looks like your right

Noooooooooooo. not in a modern engine. It can block the cooler matrix etc. which these days can be a nightmare to access.
@@theolddog5129 The cooler matrix, a nightmare to access?
@@D0csavage1 Yes - a cooler matrix on most modern cars can be a nightmare to access if needing replacement due to being blocked.
I meant heater matrix! Time for a baileys to relax I feel!
My old 52 plate 2.2 x-trail was trouble free for 7 years of service with … bit I did hear of turbo oil leak issues on them.
I had an 04 plate xtrail and had 12 years out of it and a family member still drives it now.
The 1.5 and 1.6 DCI engines leak oil from their turbos for fun.
they have some nerve thinking one of chop shop garage cars would last 8 months are they mad
Nissans have really been Renault's for quite a few years, basically since the joint venture in 2002 the parts and designs have become gradually worse. Exception is the 1.5dci diesel engine which was a joint Renault/Nissan/Mercedes development in 2001.
Why is she so quick to stop paying the finance company
Nissan was really reliable when they designed their own engines, but now they share too much with Renault and the quality isn't there anymore, at least with ICE cars
Since nissan got involved with the french, the brand has went downhill
Only cvt to have are toyota and even then servicing is important,
Its the newer ones after 99/2000 when they became Renault
My cut off point for nissan is the 90s almeras and primera gtis ect so fear not I would not purchase said cars ever even if you said best cars ever😂
James would it look and feel better to have the cars facing other way
These are pre prep not clean yet will.get move about soon
Got a 17 plate x trail 1.5 had it 7 years been fantastic serviced by Nissan from new but it is a manual transmission 48 mpg must have been lucky !
James I had a Nissan XTrail T31 from new. 136,000 miles trouble free motoring.
it makes me laugh how warranty companies only want to cover things that dont break! its rediculous, if there was no fault on delivery, they should cover it if a fault develops later 😕also i remember my dad buying new nissan sunny's and almera's in the 80s and 90s and they were 100% reliable before renault took over.
I thought everyone in the trade knew about those gearboxes.
They do. You will still find them for sale at dealerships the county wide.
Jadco cvt boxes….really bad rep….
@@eggy1962 and with ridiculously-long gearbox oil change intervals. Compare with Honda Jazz Hybrid CVT gearbox oil change every 2 years or 25k miles.
They were the same with dpf faults known but not covered
I'm on my second Renault Kadjar with the 1.5 dCi bullet proof.
Agreed
Read car dealer magazine bud, customer has just lost a case exactly the same as this. They couldn't prove the coolant loss was there at time of sale, it was after 6 mths and they lost. I'm not suggesting you don't assist but maybe mention this. It's regrettable it's happend, but after 6 mths it's nothing really to do with you, it's just one of those things.
It's probably got the Peugeot engine in I.
Is there a Oil cooler causing the Water Contamination ☹️
Transmission cooler uses the cooling system water, so yes.
Hi. I'm just scrap 2014 nissan juke 1.5 diesel. Had it for 7 months and had problems with injectors with only 78K on the clock.Spend tons of cash on it and still was running like a pig. Nissan are crap thouse days.
I think you better start to only sell cars from Toyota with full service history. .
With Autodata isn't virtually every fault a known fault these days, ie one than has been experienced before?
Nissan 1.6 diesels are not as good as the 1.5 dci. Stay well away from any CVT? unless its a ZF box!
Noticed lee from Car Uk doesn't touch much after 2014 so what's going happen to the " cheapy" market when 10 years old is 2017/8 ?. Wet belts / pure Tech / anything JLR all to the crushers??
Interesting Times ahead.
See this is the question not many are asking. If consumer law is not changed to reflect age and mileage bands it will simply disappear
Everything on vehicles is engineered to close to its limits these days to much testing on rigs and not enough real life miles.
Looks like your right
@ChopsGarage oh dear bud, I'm thinking about changing my name to nightmare autos, ha, ha.
@@ChopsGarage get em St back to you and Pete mate, you can't trust anywhere else, lend em a car then it's in your control. Your skilled enough to head off and diagnose problems, customers going anywhere else is a nightmare, they'll just love to put the poison in, whilst ripping your (which is you) customer off, it's a motor trade thing.
@@ChopsGarage 1 mth on cheapies, 3 mths on better stuff mate, no dodgy models with known faults, maybe no finance, your stress and wallet will be a lot better off, unfortunately out of those figures you've got to say no, I do, unfortunately you can't be Mr nice in the car game. Sold a senic, mths warranty, did one injector, 250 quid, that's cost, then it's oh what about the others? That's the profit gone, I said no, now it's out of my self imposed warranty and that's it, they knocked me down 200 at the start, so I'm 500 down on selling price, if you let customers run over you you'll be skint, no one helps you bud either.
@@ChopsGaragered coolant light is when it's overheating, shes been driving around like that, probably no gauge so maybe just under the overheating stage, oh dear.
I’ve got a 19 month old Qashqai and it is terrible. Lots of faults. I wouldn’t touch Nissan again
More likely be the oil cooler rotted out than head gasket
I thought that
Good evening James
