    "It's like she's using him."
He's her friend, and that's all she wants for most of the movie. Most of their adult encounters are happenstance, so it's not like she seeks him out for help, and the help he gives her during those is often unwanted. She goes to him for help near the end because she's trying to get clean, and he's kind enough to let her stay. I don't think they ever had a transactional relationship.
I think she left after sleeping with him because she felt horrible about it. I think in that moment, she did feel like she was using him, in the way her dad used her as a child. So she ran, thinking it would be for his own good. But over the next few years as she got her shit together, she came around to the idea that he loves her, and it's okay for her to love him too. I think she would have gone back sooner after having the baby, but Forrest was gone running.

The thing to remember about Jenny is that a lot of childhood sexual abuse survivors, like her, who have experienced continued abuse as adults especially, end up feeling like they're not good enough for anything but abuse. So Jenny leaves Forrest so much and says "You don't want to marry me." Because in her mind, he's too good for her. She leaves because she thinks she's saving him from her worthlessness. We don't see much of her healing from that, but by the time she gets in contact with him again and marries him, she finally feels that she can be allowed to love him and be with him, because that feeling of worthlessness has somehow been tempered.

      - "Stupid is, as stupid DOES"... ie, it's not about your IQ... it's the things you DO in your life that count. You can be quite slow, yet still take your time to make good choices. And you can be very smart, but make rash and stupid decisions. I think his mother was telling him to take the time to make solid, moral choices before you take action.
That seems to be the point of the entire movie. Plenty of smart people around Forrest make bad decisions. Forrest is not very bright, but he uses a solid moral compass and tries to make good decisions... and throughout the entire movie, things go well for him because of his good decisions.

Run, Jenny... RUN!!! Jenny ran away from her demons throughout much of this movie. When she comes back to Forrest the first time, I think she may have wanted to stay. But as soon as she saw her father's house, all that pain came rushing back. She is damaged goods, and she knows it.
When Forrest asked her to marry him, she DOES love him... in fact loves him enough to not want to visit her demons on him. It's not that she thinks Forrest isn't good enough for her... it's that she knows she isn't good enough for him.
It's only later, once she finally gets her head screwed on straight and pulls her life together, that she thinks maybe she's good enough for him.

So every time she got close, she panicked and ran.

No Forest deserves who he loves. Everyone gets super pissed at Jenny and yes its frustrating. But this girl was sexually abused, grew up without a mom, and proceeded to have abusive relationship after abusive relationship. She deserved a guy like Forest that was loyal and kind and would never ever hurt her and protect her. But she didn't think she did. She was too damaged to see it until it was pretty much too late, she realized it at the end but the damage had been done. She was always too scared to stay in one place. She always wanted to fly away when things got serious. Her story is really tragic and a very real a tale, moreso than Forests fantastical life.

My father was a history professor and his read was that Forrest represented the entire Boomer generation of America embodied in a character (and his friends and family). Strong, good-hearted, but not too bright, still phenomenally successful, in part due to the counsel and assistance of his (smarter) friends. Jenny represented the counter culture and by extension, the civil rights movement. Lt Dan represents the generation coming to terms with Vietnam as well scientific and technical advances, referencing both the space program and the tech industry. (In the book Forrest actually becomes an astronaut and goes into space)

The thing with Jenny is before she married Forrest her only instinct was to run from her problem or fears. When she was abused by her dad, she snuck out and ran to Forrest's house. Then she always told Forrest to run away (with the bullies, and in Vietnam). I think after she learned that she was pregnant and she got clean she felt she had to at least confront her fear that Forrest would be upset not telling him about Forrest Jr.

I always felt the feather represented the carefree “go with the flow” aspect of Forrest’s life, coming to land at his feet in the begin of the film, symbolising the randomness of his “Go with the flow” life that lead him to that very moment of sitting on the bench.
Then at the end when the feather flys away symbolically representative of the unknowability of what’s to come from the future.

The feather represents how Forrest kind of floated through life without a particular plan, just going where life led him. Basically whatever anyone (especially people he respected) told him to do he did, and just went with wherever that takes him.
I’ve never liked people to be too hard on Jenny. She was so abused and had such a low opinion of herself and what she deserved, as others have said. I don’t think she ever intended to use him maliciously.. but he was her “safe space” that she needed to come to periodically, but she couldn’t bring herself to stay with him because she was so cognizant of being “messed up” that she felt she would ruin his “pure” life.
Parenthood can REALLY change a person and I think it was having a kid that finally helped her to “get herself together” and probably changed a lot about how she saw herself and her priorities.
And yes, I don’t care what the book(s) say, I’m 2000% convinced the movie absolutely intended to infer that Jennny had AIDS. The timing and description (a virus the doctors don’t know much about) is spot on.

    5. Jenny did give him the best present in the whole world. It wasn't the shoes. wink wink

22:35 - The basics of Watergate is that one of the office buildings was home to the National Democratic Party campaign office & under the instruction of Senior members of the Republican Part and The White House itself, authorised several ex- CIA men to go and bug the office in order to help the GOP win the election. These men were caught in the act & it was revealed that President Nixon himself had first hand knowledge of this crime, after previously claiming he didn't, and he was forced to resign from office.

Forrest Gump represents the whole country going through turbulent times and the different ways people reacted to it. As just being true to yourself and letting fate happen but guiding your course as best you can with that truth of self. Jenny represented those trying to find themselves in various ways and how those experiences can bring you back to your truth. Lieutenant Dan represents those who believe they have a fixed destiny and discover that it is not always what they believe it to be and they can affect it for good or ill. This is still just a small glimpse of the story as a whole because it seems to have so many layers of meaning.

      @SaGeForReal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@CinobiteReacts she didn’t jump because she realized she didn’t want to die, that was HER EPIPHANY. She had to starting changing her lifestyle for the better, which is why she went back to Forrest. The only time she felt safe or at HOME is with him cuz he saw the good in her and he genuinely/sincerely/unconditionally loves her. For the longest time, she’s been raised in such an abusive environment. The only thing she saw about love/relationships is the abuse, which is why she always has such crappy boyfriends. She’s constantly running away and like you said searching for something like REAL LOVE or PURPOSE in her life. She went through life feeling worthless and not good enough for all the good things in the world.
GOOD THINGS = FORREST and she doesn’t want to taint him or bring him down with her uncertainty and lifestyle. Basically, she didn’t feel good enough to be with Forrest. Which is why she told him clearly, “YOU DON’T WANT TO MARRY ME”. It wasn’t because she doesn’t think Forrest would be a great husband. She knows he will love and care for her, but the problem was she felt that she doesn’t deserve Forrest’s love. Which is typical behavior of someone who was a victim of abuse. Jenny had to learn to know her self worth and that was her own personal journey she had to go on without Forrest. I think when she found out she was pregnant, that was her saving grace. She had a purpose, a baby that was made by the genuine love of Forrest and Jenny. You can tell how much she cleaned up her life and provided for her son. Also, Jenny apologized to Forrest saying that back then she was really messed up in her head. It was a brief apology/explanation, but at least she apologized for her behavior in the past. The fact that she knew she was dying, of course she had to find the best way for her son to have a good life. Since Forrest is his father, it just only makes sense to reach out to him. Now..we don’t know the reason why she didn’t tell Forrest about their son. I haven’t read the book maybe it was explained, but again.. she might have her reasons and then she got the news about her health. Anyways, Jenny is such a complex character who has been through some tough shit ever since she was a kid. Victims of abuse have different ways to cope or overcome their traumas. Jenny learned to run away whenever she’s faced with difficulties and her case she ran away from “true love” with Forrest. She had to go through hell, to be raised up and see the light again. While Forrest was always constant and as you said.. someone with FAITH and good intentions.

There aren’t any stories from that time of any such occurrences by protesters. What's sad is 8 other idiots liked it. This stuff where people like him blatantly like about history just so he can push his own political agenda is disgusting. Watch out too, I'm seeing a lot of people commenting who supposedly joined TH-cam in the last few months, most likely burner accounts with the simple goal of stirring up comment sections into arguments.

@Christian Grant I'm more of a conservative libertarian. I think if your a person is fully right or fully left is confused myself because you can't tell me either party has done anything for the betterment of the country. Democrats want socialism and absolute government power while Republicans are do nothing's and never live up to the morals they claim to have. I'm sorry you were mistreated, undoubtedly anyone in my mind who mistreats a service member is wrong. I also have plenty of friends and family who have served recently and none of them have been disrespected by Trump supporters. I don't know really how you can make all Trump supporters a monolith by your lone experience. From what I can see, it seems that veterans make up a large base of his voters, so saying Trump supporters don't support soldiers and Marines is really disingenuous. Just because I don't believe Trump is a great leader doesn't mean his supporters are confused. The more people attack his supporters the way the media loves to, is the more people like me become sympathetic to them. I have never seen people called so many names like conservatives that it make the Democratic party and media look like fascists.

The feather represents the random nature of Forrest's life "floatin' around, accidental like on a breeze", allowing life circumstances to take him from one significant event to another. Combined this with the butterfly effect (the effect of small, insignificant acts can unknowingly, over time, alter the path of significant forces in the future) you see how Forrest's random interactions with others led to one significant event to another; Watergate, Bubba-Gump Shrimp, Have a Nice day shirt, Shit Happens, etc.

It’s a great movie. Only one President died. John Kennedy. George Wallace was wounded as was Ronald Reagan. Robert Kennedy was assasinated but wasn’t President, he was running for President when killed. Jenny was exactly as I expected her to be. When one is sexually and physically abused by a parent you often feel you deserved it and feel so bad about yourself you act destructively. She was looking for love but ended up with abusers. She kept leaving Forrest because she felt he was too good for her until she had a baby. Then she died knowing her son would not only be raised by his dad but his dad was good and loving. And LT. Dan also thought dying for his country was honorable (it is) but blamed Forrest for saving him. He was bitter but came out the better once he realized that he could be happy as a paraplegic and he saw how good Forrest was. Good reaction. It’s a movie that makes you think. Even though Forrest was what we call “stupid” he really did amazing things in his life. Play the hand you’re dealt.

Yes, I've traveled back in time watching previous reviews lol. You mentioned how film portrays abusers. Both men and women are shown as abusers, really, but the difference is that men are shown as physical/ sexual abusers, and women as emotional/ financial abusers. It's a cliche for a reason, though I agree there are certainly cases that go the other way on all fronts.
In a way, Jenny is an emotional abuser. We sympathize more both because there's a happy ending to it all, and because we see the origins of why she is how she is. Possibly there's a story of abuse behind the dad, but we have no idea. It's all pretty complicated.
