I don't speak a lick of Bahasa Indonesian, so her intensive use of English and frequent stream times made Kaela my ID oshi.

She became my first oshi in my life because her english was so kiut. I appreciate she speaks english for outdonesian, but I don't think it's good for me to fully depend on her kindness to use english, so I am studying indonesian(day 70 on duolingo yeaaay).

Agreed! Ollie in particular speaks such clean English, you often forget it's not her native language. The only ID vtuber I know of whose English sounds even more natural than Ollie's is Michi Mochievee from VShojo -- and when she and Ollie get together on stream, bantering with one another in perfect English, I have to keep reminding myself that they're literally bantering with one another in a second language! I work in Japanese-English translation, and let me tell you, my Japanese is nowhere NEAR as good as their English (or Kiara's, for that matter... or Anya's Japanese!).
I really admire those who can speak a second language with such absolute proficiency, and hope to one day join their ranks.

Honestly, there seems to be lots of fans who think of ID as like an extension of EN. Doesn't hurt that they have lots of collabs to boot.
What makes me excited is that with each stream, Kaela's English level gets much better, it makes me feel that her efforts have not been in vain
The main obstacle during learning foreign language is the lack of verbal practice. It's because it's pretty hard to get the conversation partner to practice with. So with Kaela quite a lot of times streams in English and collabs with EN members, her verbal English is trained little by litte.
I legit didn't know reine was id, I saw a few clips and really liked her content so I checked out one of her streams. It was a collab stream with other id members and she was rapid fire id XD I was flabbergasted

What is funny is that Reine has perfectly clean American English accent at her debut. However nowadays she has a habit of throwing random Indonesian words to a perfectly normal English sentences. Not a problem for Indonesians, but I would imagine Outodonesians who are just chilling suddenly got thrown out of loop lol (wait she said what?)

TBH I appreciate you ID Pemaloe bros, for accepting how much English she uses that she was happy enough that you guys would be okay with her talking in it so often that she wouldn't feel like she needed to speak in Indonesian more to retain her audience, I love watching Kaela's streams and I'm very grateful she tries her best in English that I can understand

@@r-cats6001 and Indonesian is only the primary language of about 20% of Indonesians to begin with, so even then most Indonesians are listening in their secondary language regardless.
I'm from VietNam and I just can speak broke English like Ela, very appreciate that she talk in English most of the time so I can watch her with no fence, I have no Idea what she saying when she speak with ID bros in her main language
I think no ID bros complaining kaelas EN conversations is because mostly ID bros who watch Kaela understands/eager to learn English as well since the first time we watch Kaela video. Same case for Reine, or any other ID talent that speaks english ofthen on streams. For those ID bros who cant understand English, they may watch Kobo, Moona, or other talent that mainly speaks Indonesian in their streams.
I wonder if ID bros eager to learn Japanese flock to Anya.
@@DinnerForkTongueSome of ID schools have JP in the study program so there'll be some of them because it's hard to find someone to practice EN conversation moreover to practice JP so Anya is gonna be very helpful

@@DinnerForkTongue I actually often use Anya to learn Japanese. Her Japanese is often very 'proper' and not so fast so it is very easy to listen compared to a lot of actual JP vtubers. Bonus point when she herself translates it to English or Indonesian.
For real though, that's literally one of my main reasons why I watched her the most when it comes to ID.

Even me as an id, i like to use more English even though still broken English level, but by watching kaela that smhw her English is easier to understand, i feel like my English got better. And as an id pemaloe i like to see more outdonesian pemaloe in the chat and watch her stream, and sometimes they learn new vocab in id when kaela speak id.
Kaela is practically the only HoloEN(yes, might as well be) up for night people. Usually goes dead at some point in the night with no one speaking english anymore from hololive till next afternoon unless Kaela is on.
Basically similar (if not the same) reasons why many ID viewers in the community (including me) prefers chat in english, it's a win-win tbh..

It's just a thing, when playing game online with outdonesia most Indonesian will tend to use english both speak or write(type) unless they did not understand english at all.

Even since Gen 1, most of ID fans are still Indonesians.
However, they are not Indonesians who can only speak Indonesian. They are mostly bilingual/trilingual Indonesian.
So it's not 'majority of HoloID fans don't speak Indonesian'. It's 'majority of HoloID fans could speak English'

I have been learning english since i kid (from games, books, videos, etc) but untill now kaela speaks much better than me, in the other side when i was a highschool student, i just need around 3 months to speak arabic from 0 because in my highschool we must speak with it 24/7.
Now iam a uni student with english as my major, and my english is still broken😂

One of the reasons I started following Vtuber was precisely because I was studying Japanese and if you don't use the language often, you start to forget it. Unfortunately, at the time there was only Kizuna Ai, which was still three months old, but today I follow several Holomembers who have helped me a lot in learning the language.
Man...she is so cute and relatable. Her broken english is actually giving me more confidence and motivation to try and speak more myself (though I haven't started yet...silly me)
Lets be brutally honest here. ID market is good but there's so few whales. Even Holo that focused on ID viewers (Kobo) even though people keep sending her money but it usually only 15K Rupiah (1 USD). For Americans some may consider $20 is cheap but for Indonesian it's quite a big money.

I can understand her being self-conscious about her English being broken, because it is. However, it's only minor (ie. skipping a word or two), and we can understand her meaning perfectly well and never have to question what she's saying. I think she deserves to be more confident in her English skills, she's doing a fantastic job!

In the SEA it was the Malay language
In the middle east it was Arabic (some in Europe too due to trade)

Many Indonesian entertainers has been struggling to forge their path into international stage to make Indonesia more recognized. Yet, it is not enough. Indonesia is still unknown from the rest of the world. But, luckily we have the ID branch and the internet to reach the worldwide.
I would be happy if Kaela or any ID talents speak more foreign language. Because:
1. It is an opportunity to make Indonesia more popular worldwide.
2. Indonesia's adsense rate is very low. It would be good for her to reach higher adsense rate audience.
3. Western and JP bros have more purchasing power.
4. If Outdonesian bros send superchat or buy her merchs, it counted as export in macroeconomy perspective.😂

The internet has worldwide reach. It would be a missing opportunity if we didn't reach the worldwide audience like Hollywood, Japanese culture, or Kpop did. The Internet already tackles the distance, time, and our suck bureaucracy to reach international exposure.

The problem is some of them trying waaaay too hard to appease the Western market. Kahitna tried and their English song was painfully generic. Agnes Monica also tryied and she ended up collabing with P Diddy and she still make super generic song. Reza Artemevia have a chance to go international but she ruin it by getting into drug problem.
The only one who succeeded was Anggun. But to do that she had to move to France, working with non Indonesian musicians, but her songs are actually felt more natural.
