Growing playing golf I never understood the thought process of “staying in the moment.” Now I’m much older and have studied the mental game much more, I understand the concept of staying in the moment. It is sticking to you preshot routine and focusing on the process not the outcome. Ben you have illustrated that wonderfully in prior videos. I use your examples in coaching my daughter and other youths sporting clays as well as helping my own shooting. Also it is something that has to exercised and built up just like a muscle. You don’t just wake up with it. Keep em coming.

Well except for the last couple of minutes, because I have not figured out how to let it go, how to deal with it. So I am saving this and will watch it as many times as It takes. Really enjoying this lockdown series, thank you Ben. I am only an occasional and casual clay shot, not at all competitive but always enjoy a round of Skeet or Sporting. This episode and your words of wisdom are not just about competitive shooting...but real life as well. Take care and stay safe : )
Really enjoying these "morning talks". I thought about fear and shooting and came up with these three. Fear of being judged. Fear of “Losing”. Fear of being a “failure”. I think I understand the answers but those fears still creep up.
Well said Ben, I had the some of the same things happen , I was at a two day PITA Shoot I was on the last trap trap 7, 24 handicap I was 21 yrs old I had been flawless idk anxiety, fear etc got to me , and I had dropped several birds , I ended up winning high over all champ ! But I didn’t let each miss mess with my pre shot routine , the nerves got to me lol😅
Love this video, can relate to this completely. Ironically as a youth I threw javelin and it was Steve Backley who saw me throwing at my local club and told my club they needed to enter me into a national youth torment 👍🏻 so greatfull to him. But I stopped it for shooting and field sports.
One of my biggest fears in shooting is competing Iv always have been scared I'm afraid I'm not good enough yet I'm confident in my shot just cant get over it!
My biggest fear is that I will never achieve my personal goals shooting - that at 57 I started very late, but have punched up from D to AA in NSCA in a year. Shooting is like an addiction - two days ago I dominated a local shoot winning three events in my class. And promptly came off the high wanting more but fearing that addiction.
Ben I watch a lot of your videos and I push across your clips to my nephews but what gets me is I practise awesome but Comp day I can’t get it together
I am scared of trying to be calm in a call a comp stand. when it comes to a pair i loose my shit and drop one or the other. I would love to shoot a comp as I do a practice.
