FUN FACT: According to Billboard's Book Of Number One Hits, Andy Gibb became the first solo artist in the history of the U.S. pop charts to have his first three singles hit #1.
The Bee Gees wrote Andy's songs, and some times you can here the Bee Gees song harmony in the Background. His brothers, especially Barry helped him with his career. Andy look up to his older brothers. And the Bee Gees already had a singing career, when Andy was born. Andy also wanted a solo career.
I had such a crush on him when I was about 13. Broke my heart when he died. I get choked up when I see Barry without his brothers. The oldest and last one left 😢
I turned 16 just three days before he died, I was convinced we were going to be together since we were both March babies. My older brother picked me up from school because as he told his boss...It has to come from me. I stayed home from school the next day. Love you Andy♥️
Leslie, the oldest and only sister, is also still alive. Leslie was part of the Bee Gees in the very beginning. She's living with her hubby and many children & grandkids. They are dog breeders. Andy was going to join his older brothers after finishing up an album (possibly a tour), but died before that came to be.
The reason Andy wasn't officially part of The Bee Gees, was just, that Andy was much younger than his brothers. They backed him up & wrote songs for & with him. They saw his potential as a solo act, rather than him being a tag-a-long or add on with The Bee Gees. In fact, they're likely playing and singing backup in this performance and on the record. Andy was close to his brothers, and there was no animosity. Tragically, Andy died young. While he was around, the girls really liked him. He was like a mini version of his oldest brother, Barry.
I'm sorry to disagree; Andy Gibb passed away at a hospital in Oxford, England from inflammation of the heart three days later after he was admitted! March 10, 1988!
Can you imagine living through this time, I appreciated this music the first time, but really appreciate it more-so nowadays. Watching you young people react brings it all back fresh and new! Thank you for reacting to Andy Gibb! He was one of the greats that was gone way too soon! He might have even become more famous than his brothers had he lived, he was one of a kind! Great reaction! "I Was Made For dancing" should be next!
Andy Gibb was going to be one of the BeeGees, but he passed away before he could, but he did make a appearance with his brothers on the video You should be dancing. Much love to you and your family 💕Brandi Modrak 💕
OMG! Andy again?? What a treat! I love him so much! He wasn't part of them because he is much younger than them and he wanted to be his own person. He did perform with them on occasion and they wrote most of his songs with him. The Gibb family is incredibly talented. Their sister sings as well but never had a career of it. Their father was into music. He was a drummer, song writer and producer himself. No wonder there was such talent.
It's very BeeGees-ish...Barry produced all of his music and they all sang background on his albums. Any album or song that Barry Gibb produced for other singers like Barbra Streisand, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton&Kenny Rogers, he either did some duets, or he and the BeeGees did background vocals. Anything he produced was immediately recognizable as a Barry Gibb production.
"Shadow Dancing" was #1 for 7 weeks in 1978. "Shadow Dancing" will become the #2 hit of 1978 just behind his brothers with "Night Fever" which was #1 for 8 weeks. Yes the Bee Gees owned the second half of the 70's.
Jayvee you asked why wasn't Andy in the Bee Gees. When he was in diapers the Bee Gees were already performing. In 1988 the Bee Gee announced the he would be joining the Bee Gees making the a four person band. 1988 was the year Andy passed away.
If you're gonna listen to more Andy, there's some goodies! The big hits were: "Desire," "An Everlasting Love," "I Just Want to Be Your Everything," and "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water." His bass player on this song was Harold Cowart, a professional session player.
I was born in this era of music and it never did stop and I agree they were the best. They wrote all their music and lots of great songs for others. Music was so great in the 60s, 70's, 80's, 90's, and still many good ones but I feel privileged to have lived during this time. So many great singers and the music was so good.
Andy is so cute.He looks so much like Barry. Look at the hair. Barry said he felt like Andy was his twin, even though he was 12 years older. They had a lot in common, liked to do the same things. You can hear the BeeGees on this track. They wrote and did the arrangement and background. You should react to BeeGees song for Andy on their One Night Only concert"Don't Throw It All Away".
I hear that the brothers plans were to bring him into the group just before he died. And yeah; the only song I know where they were all on stage together was for the song "You Should Be Dancing," which I think you've already reacted to. Also, it's strange you said that about his voice. As soon as the song started, I was thinking that he sounded like a perfect blend of Barry and Robin's voice, together. What a talented bunch of guys. Great reaction!
I saw an interview with Barry where he said that the plan was for Andy to do one more solo album and then he would join the Bee Gees. Tragically, he died before either happened. (A popular video of You Should Be Dancin has Andy performing live with his brothers.) RIP, Mo, Robin and Andy.
I recall when he passed. Correct me if I'm wrong, was it a virus that attacked his heart. It was a weird diagnosis. Showing my age, and don't care.💙💙💙🥀🥀🥀
Andy Gibb was the youngest brother of the Bee Gees you can see him in some of videos but he went off to make a solo career he died of the age of 31 due to a heartache do to drugs, and he has a daughter. BRANDI MODRAK
Andy didn't want to ride on his brothers' coattails. That's why he generally worked solo. He DID appear on rare occasions with them, but without a lot of fanfare.
In one of the last attempts to right his life, Andy actually agreed to be the fourth member of the Bee Gees, however he passed away before it could happen :(
Andy did said he wanted to be a Bee Gee so bad but then he decided to be on his own but either way he was still a good talented artist just like his brothers 😊
@HardNews TV4 There are videos on TH-cam of Barry being interviewed saying Andy was going to join them as a 4th Bee Gee. But, Andy passed away and it never come to be.
@HardNews TV4 That always makes me feel sad that Andy felt that way cuz even if he wasn't as big as his brothers he was still talented and he has good songs I personally love all of his songs there's not 1 that I dislike cuz he makes the songs sound better and if I can go back to the decades it would definitely be where Andy was having his solo career cuz I would be glad to have a chance to meet him 💙💙💙
The brothers were helping his career and were to bring him into group but he died at 30 , which broke his brothers heart. Only song all brothers on as they sing background. RIP ANDY...
He was MUCH younger than the others. The Bee Gees were already performing on stage and on TV in Australia before Andy was even born. He was about six or seven when they started having hits. Barry, Robin and Maurice were very supportive of him, but they themselves persuaded him to pursue a solo career when he got old enough rather than have the pressure of joining an already established group. When his career hit its peak, he began occasionally appearing with the group in concert. As his solo career started to fizzle out, he was finally invited to join the group on a full-time basis. Unfortunately, he passed away before ever getting the chance to record or tour as an actual Bee Gee.
One of my favorite songs 😍😍 Andy did wanted to be in the Bee Gees but because of age difference he couldn't be part of it but when he got older he said he wanted to be his own man be a solo artist and everything was all good until sadly he went into depression and personal problems but he making a comeback with a new album and it was said by Barry that Andy would later joined them in the band but it didn't happen cuz Andy died 😭💔. Your next Andy Gibb reaction should be Love is thicker than water Barry also wrote that song or his song Our Love don't throw it all away it's also one of my faves too hopefully we get to see more. Thanks for this it always makes my day better 💙😊
Thank you! When I was a teenager, my walls were covered with him! 74 pictures and posters!!💕💕💕 He was sooo much younger than his brothers! He was going to join them. He unfortunately passed away before that could happen.😢😢
Hey Jayvee ! Check out Our Love " Don't throw it all away " sung by the Bee Gees and Andy Gibb ! " Love is thicker than water" It's an amazing Andy Gibb' song too ! Thanks for the great reaction !
What a year for the Gibb brothers! It was 1978. The owned half of the top 10 of the year end count down. This was the #1 song of the year. The other hits (all #1 hits) were .."Love is Thicker Than Water"-Andy Gibb ( #8 for the year), "How Deep is Your Love" (6th biggest), "Stayin' Alive"-Bee Gees (in at #4 for the year). And "Night Fever"-Bee Gees ( 2nd biggest hit of the year). And of course, "Shadow Dancing"-Andy Gibb with #1 pop hit of 1978!
I love The Bee Gees and Andy Gibb! It’s really great to see someone else discover and enjoy their music too. Love watching your videos. Keep up the good work!
❤Andy Gibb❤⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ he got all... rhythm, beautiful voice, wrtiting, dancing, youth, brothers ..but he was lost for most of his craziest fame time and then his heart let him down. Sweet Andy he could touch soul and heart just like his brothers. Great reaction!!!!👏👏😊
Andy was more suited as a solo artist, and at 19, he was a teen heartthrob. He was in magazines that teen girls bought, like Tiger Beat. I was 13, so I was the perfect fan.
I just don’t see anybody else out there that had an entire group of brothers that were all stars and so smooth and perfect with their vocals. The Gibbs are the best and its unfortunate that Andy passed away so early. His voice was fantastic.
I was traveling to Tampa last year when this song came on. I almost got out the car on the expressway to dance. I was jamming. Yesssss I had not heard it in years
Andy wrote this with Barry. Andy had 3 number one songs before he was 21. Songs written by Barry and him. Nice reaction. You are a wonderful reactor. It gives joy
Your reaction is cool. You are enjoying the song and grooving to the tempo. Your comments are right on. I agree with you. Andy Gibb embraced Funk and Soul and Pop and Rock and even R&B in his music. This was a big hit for andy. You asked a good question, why was Andy not part of the BEE GEES group. I wonder about that also. Andy Gibb was talented. Andy's passing at age 30 was sad. He had more music he could have shared. I like to suggest Andy Gibb ' I Go For You '
He became a star during the disco era. When disco went out of vogue his musical career took a dive. During the 80s his alcohol and cocaine abuse side-tracked his other efforts in television, Broadway, and his personal life. In 1987 he declared bankruptcy. In 1988 he was planning a comeback and appeared to have beat his addictions. He had officially become a member of the BeeGees. However he died 5 days after his 30th birthday due to heart inflammation from a viral infection. It is likely his long period of addiction weakened his heart and contributed to his death.
The Bee Gees (Barry, Robin and Maurice) wrote all of Andy's songs! They also wrote songs for a lot of other people. And the Bee Gees are harmonizing in the background. Not only to this one, to all his songs. I love the Bee Gees! I'm glad to see you enjoying all the music they wrote and preformed. Keep listening brother, they only get better
I think this is my favourite song of Andy's 🥰 I always thought that Andy wanted a solo career and wasn't interested in becoming a BeeGee, but he was so much younger than his brothers which is why he wasn't a BeeGee and word is that the BeeGee's announced in early 1988 that Andy would be joining the group and the BeeGees would now have 4 members, (I didn't know that) but Andy died in March 1988. Gone too soon 💖
He had to have been a little boy when his brothers started in the late 1960s. He does perform with them in the video YOU SHOULD BRE DANCING. He appeared in a Gilbert & Sullivan musical with Linda Ronstadt. THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE.
Andy Gibb also hosted the TV show Solid Gold alongside Marilyn McCoo for a season or two. I was around 18 or so and have fond memories of watching with my parents. My mom used to say Andy and Barry didn't have to do anything but stand there and she would still watch! Lol I just checked to see if TH-cam had clips from Andy and Marilyn singing together. It does! So adorable! Love them both.
He was one of my childhood crushes, I still have all of his albums! Love him! He has a lot of hits! Time is Time was one I loved that didn`t get as much airplay.
His brother wrote the song. He was a talented young man. Like so many others partied too hard with all the wrong people. His brothers tried to intervene, they thought he was recovering and had no idea his addictions were still an issue.
Barry wrote Andy's first 5 songs ( at least), all hitting #1 on the charts. Yes, his brothers did sing the back up in those songs. In a interview with the 3 oldest brothers, they stated that they had intended and were planning to have Andy join them in the Bee Gees group after he completed the current contract he was under. He passed away before that happened from heart complications due to extensive injuries to his heart caused by prior drug usage. Andy had gone through rehab and was clean at the time of his death. Very sad to lose such a talented young man with such enormous potential. Yes, he was a miniature Barry, in looks and talent.
Their music crossed all color barriers. This young black teenage girl bought every song the Gibb family recorded. They were fantastic to listen to. I still play their music today.
Andy was a lot younger than his older brothers. They did the background vocals for him. I remember singing and dancing to this with my girlfriends. He was so adorable.
FUN FACT: According to Billboard's Book Of Number One Hits, Andy Gibb became the first solo artist in the history of the U.S. pop charts to have his first three singles hit #1.
I didn’t know that!
That's good knowledge.
I think that’s just a fact. Nothing fun about it.
What were they?
The Bee Gees wrote Andy's songs, and some times you can here the Bee Gees song harmony in the Background. His brothers, especially Barry helped him with his career. Andy look up to his older brothers. And the Bee Gees already had a singing career, when Andy was born. Andy also wanted a solo career.

Takin' me back to my childhood days in the seventies. Andy and the Bee Gees were some of the biggest musical acts on planet Earth at that time.
They were the biggest acts of the second 1/2 of the 70's. With 6 #1 in a row for The Bee Gees no one came close.
I agree!!!
Andy Gibb was my 1st ever crush..my 9 year old self watching him host Solid Gold

I like to suggest Andy Gibb ' I Go For You '
Yes!!! ❤ He was always precious, a favorite.
Passed away much too young.
#1 song of 1978! I went running through the streets screaming with joy! 😁 My grandmother thought something was terribly wrong 😅
It is likely his long period of addiction weakened his heart and contributed to his death.
it was 5 days after his birthday, he celebrated it with his Mom
@@charmainecano1617 You are right - making the correction.
There's a video of The Bee Gees singing live in concert with Andy singing along to their hits. Fantastic performance
Awwww Andy Gibb...my very 1st crush ❤️🎤😂
this song is f'ing awesome! haha IMO up there with the best of the combined bee gees hits!
Hubby and I got to see Andy in concert with his brothers, The Bee Gees at the Oakland coliseum. WHAT A TREAT!
It could be Maurice on bass, and yes, this was all over the radio.
He had to have been a little boy when his brothers started in the late 1960s. He does perform with them in the video YOU SHOULD BRE DANCING. He appeared in a Gilbert & Sullivan musical with Linda Ronstadt. THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE.
@orba Andy appeared with Pam Dawber in the LA production of Pirates - Rex Smith was Linda’s co-star on Broadway (and the movie).
He also hosted the Solid Gold music show in the 80's.
Andy Gibb - lead and background vocals
Barry Gibb - background and harmony vocals, orchestral arrangement.
You should hear I can't help it, I He sang it on the Punky brewster show. just him and a piano, gorgeous.
Andy Gibb also hosted the TV show Solid Gold alongside Marilyn McCoo for a season or two. I was around 18 or so and have fond memories of watching with my parents. My mom used to say Andy and Barry didn't have to do anything but stand there and she would still watch! Lol
I just checked to see if TH-cam had clips from Andy and Marilyn singing together.
RIP sweet Andy
(Our love) Don’t throw it all away is a good song to listen to
Shadow Dancing has been one of my favorite songs for many many many years .
Love this song! Thanks for reacting to it.
Great song!! Passed away too soon!! Love him!! ❤🔥
Love this song!
