    After reaching the age of maturity in March 2004, Melissa Stern legally terminated Mary Beth's parental rights and formalized Elizabeth's maternity through adoption proceedings. "I love my family very much and am very happy to be with them," Melissa told a reporter for the New Jersey Monthly in 2007, referring to the Sterns. "I'm very happy I ended up with them. I love them, they're my best friends in the whole world, and that's all I have to say about it."

    Melissa Stern is now a medical writer, married with a daughter of her own. Tuesday attended her wedding. She cut off all ties with Mary Beth when she turned 18, and was officially adopted by Betsy. Besty and Bill have since passed away. Melissa said she had a wonderful childhood and her parents were her best friends. Rick also passed away.

I wanted to yell at them to call the cops when she first came to visit yo hold the baby and insisted on keeping it for a week. I also couldn’t believe the couple gave the baby back when they went to visit. I would have walked tight out of that house.

And at 30 minutes in it was clear mb wasn't gonna give up that baby. The sterns should have played hardball immediately instead of giving Marybeth all the power. Should have gotten lawyers involved from when she first said they couldn't have her at the hospital.

    Marybeth signed papers saying the sterns could have the baby. So Marybeth should not keep the baby.

    Mary Beth didn't really love that child. She was a selfish, manipulative liar. I really hope Melissa wasn't horribly emotionally scathed by having to have contact with her. I thought the Sterns such wonderful decent human beings. What suffering they must have endured. Bless them both.

      Mary Beth couldn’t help but grow attached to the baby. I wouldn’t call that selfish. I call that motherly love.

      @isobelbauch9842
      It was very selfish to go on the run dump her other kids with her parents , that is not motherly love that is called unstable and most likely postpartum or some other mental illness going on

      And when she said “ forget you have a daughter, because I rather see her and me dead before you get her” now if u truly think that’s motherly lover you have a few screws loose in your head

    Mrs. Marybeth Whitehead, Ive not watched the whole movie but i dont like her. I dont like her at all. She seems to be just a liar, selfish, emotional problems, drama queen, sneaky, and loves the attention of the trial. She acts like Baby M is a possession property to control not a person with feelings. She has no clue whats best for this baby as a person. She seemed jealous of the Stern's.

    The adoptive mother was abusing her rights as a Doctor. She had no right, in discussing the pregnancy with the OBS Doctor. I can feel sympathy for her. It's Ok to agree to be a surrogate. Quite another, when the baby starts moving and growing. That said, she signed the contract to gand the baby over. I've no idea how any woman can do so

      Her husband had a vasectomy. Honestly she should have just had in vitro and had her own. She was a total head case from the get go. Threatening to kill her, contempt of court, kidnapping and being on the run for months , dragging her own family and children through all that running and hiding. She was crazy
