Very informative. I drew pictures of the camera and marked all the button functions as you explained them. This will be very helpful when my camera gets here, thanks!
Yes Heather, MANY, MANY others also have trouble with the deep, convoluted menu, including myself. Thank you for the excellent introduction! I am moving towards the micro 4/3rds system primarily because of it’s compactness and light weight.
I got to look at an om1iii in the camera store yesterday and it is best feeling "in the hand" cameras I've ever held. Great size and weight and very balanced. I wish it wasn't quit so expensive. But would love to have one.
The feel of it is fantastic! And the quality is great as well, definitely my favorite Olympus model. The good news is that the investment in the camera will last you at least 12-15 years without feeling the need to upgrade. It is a lot to think about, but I don't think you would be sorry!
Hey, good video! I just upgraded to this camera, along with the 12-40 f/2.8 Pro lens. My previous camera was the EM-10 mk ii (great camera for hiking). The 50 MP handheld high-res capability of this camera is amazing! Anyway, keep up the good work!
hi Heather I understand aperture but I'm not sure where I read the f/stop I'm using perhaps you can tell me how to set this so i can see it as i go along thanks
The Aperture or F Stop can be seen at the bottom of the LCD screen or Viewfinder. You can change it using one of the two dials (one around the shutter button, or one toward the back on top). Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@Shutterbug101 thanks for that is it the number on the left hand side of the screen/monitor all the other camera makes iv'e had show it as f/2.8-f/4 etc etc
Thanks for this walkthrough. I have not found out a way to delete all the photos on the memory card apart from ticking each and every shot to select them and then pressing the bin!😬
If you have made sure you saved all the photos you want to keep to your computer, to delete all photos off the card to start fresh you just need to go to menu and format the card. This will permanently erase all photos at one time.
Thanks for the great walk through!!!! I'd read that handheld high res has a max shutter time of 60sec....my mark iii only lets me up to 30 sec....I'm curious if I was mistaken? Whats your max shutter time on handheld high res?
the balance gauge shows a little differently that other cameras. To access it, just hit the Info button on the back of your camera until you see the line across the bottom and right side of the screen and make them turn green.
Hi Heather, I very much appreciated your presentation! I recently upgraded from E- M5ll to the E-Mi Mark lll. Photography is purely a hobby for me which l love and l have one question I was hoping you could help me with. With the E-M5ll I would take my shots in Raw and then via Sd reader upload them onto my iPad for edit in Lightroom. I tried the same process with the E-M1 Marklll and while the shots are viewed on the iPad it indicates an error and will not allow me to scroll through them or edit them. I have researched but can find no help. Would you be able to offer any guidance for me. Thank you, Karen
Make sure your Lightroom is updated and there is enough storage for the images. There is a chance that your ipad or Lightroom may be working on old firmware, and the current that you have doesn't read the files. If you have made sure both are fully updated and are having the same issue, reach out to Adobe to troubleshoot the program.
When you see something in the menu you want to add to your My Menu, and the star in the upper right corner is highlighted, you hit your red record button at the top of your camera to save it to My Menu
Just got my Miii today and found your video. One question, I cannot seem to be able to turn on the super control panel when I press the button next to the menu button in video mode. Any suggestion?
This may be able to be changed in the menu itself under display or video settings. At the moment with the changes happening with the company, I do not have contact with a rep or any of this model in stock. As soon as I can get my hands on one, I will be sure to get back to you!
Great question! Scrolling through the custom options, I see Autofocus lock and autofocus area as options, but not a focus command. So I would say no, however, that can easily be changed through firmware upgrades so keep an eye out!
Think of it this way. You take your car to the carwash, and they wash the outside only, dry it, and done.. That would be the same as hitting the trash button. But, when the carwash does the outside AND the inside, vacuuming top to bottom, cleaning the floormats, the seats, and removing fingerprints from the inside of the windows, that would be the same as reformatting ! It becomes a new card..

14:48 For those wondering, the dedicated ISO button does bring up an ISO-only interface, rather than ISO plus White Balance!

You do a really great job at giving an overview. I have upgraded from 10 M3 to this camera and the menu is slightly overwhelming-you tamed it!
Great video! Yours is the clearest explanation I've seen of this convoluted menu.
Thank you so much,Just buy this yesterday
Brilliant, Heather, thank you!

I agree, I was very impressed with this camera! Have fun!
Excellent video, thanks for sharing your expertise.
You know... I'm not sure about that eye shadow, but your hat is dope.
Super awesome video!! Loved it and helped me extremely!!!
Just ordered this camera and I found your video very useful! Thank you!
Very informative, thank you.
Very deep test, excellent work ! Thanks a lot

Thanks for the video! I just received the camera and it helped me know what of each button does :D Do you know what the bottom rubber cover is?
I believe that is for the Battery Grip option for it's connection.
Very useful video
Thank you for this information.

May i know how to on back balance level gauge for em1.3? mine is not showing
the balance gauge shows a little differently that other cameras. To access it, just hit the Info button on the back of your camera until you see the line across the bottom and right side of the screen and make them turn green.
09:39 does the touch screen not work for setting these?
Great question! Unfortunately no, you have to use the adjustment wheels
Thank you!!!!👍👍👍
Can you adjust what items are available through the "quick" menu?
Although you cannot change the items in the quick menu, you can make yourself a custom menu under the My Menu tab in the actual menu.

Hi Karen,
How did you find the transition? I’m also coming from a m5. Had the M1 for. Few days now, I find myself overwhelmed.
Can you change the size of the "square" that you are moving around in the focus area?
Same as the E-M5, you cannot change the size of the single point, but you can change the size of the focus area.
hi,
may i ask why you recommend to turn off IS of lens when on tripod. does it hurt to leave it on?
Great video! Regarding "My menu" the instruction notes a button to press to register. Can someone help me locate that button?
When you see something in the menu you want to add to your My Menu, and the star in the upper right corner is highlighted, you hit your red record button at the top of your camera to save it to My Menu
How do you set minimum shutter speed and max ISO?

Excellent introduction! Does this camera take good pictures?
I was incredibly impressed with the picture quality from this camera so I would say absolutely but it also depends on what your taking pictures of.
.@@Shutterbug101 Thank you.
It's pretty amazing and has awesome Auto focus..
Great Camera!!
Is it possible to assign back button focusing to a custom mode say 1 only,. thanks

great info but really too fast hard to learn from this no time to watch and alter your recommendations
What is formating?
