My Mum and Aunt started my on Martinis way back when I was still in high school. In our family we put the glasses in the freezer. Our recipe is similar to this one but we shake the ice instead of stirring. For the garnish it’s usually stuffed olives or pickled onions. CHEERS AND HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!
Dude, you really know your job, it's the second time I saw you doing something in the most classical way! Honestly you are my favourite bartender for tutorial. I drink dry martini since kid and I hope you don't mind few pieces of advice: the secret is the temperature, personally holding the gin bottle in the freezer and the vermouth in the refrigerator makes a huge difference as the ice will melt much more slowly keeping it more dry.
Simply a classic for a reason, I love em. However I just can't wrap my mind around how someone thought of mixing a wine (vermouth) with a spirit. I guess maybe that's all they had available or something. I never would have thought of that if I was trying to invent my own cocktail, but I'm glad they did!
I'm a martini drinker and I think this is a great recipe, a slight but significant improvement to the recipe I have been using for some time now. Thank you very much.
I loved this video so much that I have seen this might be like 100 times. And I’m still watching it. I would love to see some other combinations of this drink. And rest of the videos are also amazing. Thank you so much
Lovely video! Thank you for taking the time to put this one together. Always loved the classic drinks and you have inspired me to try out the martini again. Cheers!
HI Steve, remember when I was funning you about being such a good bartender but not American. I wasn't serious as you knew. BUT, if you serve a mini martini like that in USA, be sure you know where the back door is. LOL Love the channel.
@@Tmanaz480 That's why I just start having vermouth on the rocks with a twist after the bottle has sat in the fridge almost a month. Don't let it go to waste, drink it.
Billy Underwood Theres not many cocktails w/degree pf personal preference as a Martini! imho- this is a Gin Gimlet, which couldve done better with vermouth sprayed through an atomizer in the glass, I doubt much flavour was imparted from ice. A good bottle of Pale Dry Vermouth can be stored with stoppers and air removal in the refer for enough time to finish it reasonably.
My rule of thumb for youtube bartender channels - can they make a proper dry martini? Yay, subscribe. Nay, back to vermouth town buddy... Subscribed! :)
A chef usually asks new hires to make an omelet... if they cannot get that basic dish right, which tests several key kitchen skills, then they are a waste of time....
Thanks for this! Am going to make a martini now. Is it just a myth that a good is martini is shaken and not stirred? I imagine the former gets a colder drink.
I was very impressed w your other cocktails but your martini just isn't right 1) This is not classic (ratio is wrong) 2) This is bone dry, not dry, (you discarded the vermouth) Bartenders usually do it your way when vermouth has been in the back storage for months and isn't fresh (it's a wine after all). Use fresh vermouth. Be proud of it. Go 3:1, or 5:1, if you like it drier
Ry N from my understanding everyone does it different depending on region/location so there really is no correct “classic” way. I was taught in bartending school to coat and discard the dry vermouth aswell, except to coat glass not the ice for a dry martini, & the extra-dry with no vermouth at all, only the regular martini left the dry vermouth fully basically . & for ratio 8ct/2oz of gin or vodka.
There is no other cocktail imho as personalized as a Martini! Impossible for any bartender to please everyone. It is the main reason Martini lovers are loyal to particular bartenders, whom they’ve already well trained to their personal likes & dislikes. This recipe is text book by the Gin makers (of course).
@@jimbeam100100 sure, let’s make a gin and tonic. 1) pour tonic water in a cup. 2) throw all the tonic water out. 3) Pour gin in and serve. Hope you enjoy your gin and tonic!
To much work. The easy way: Keep your Gin in the freezer. Fill your martini glass with cold water, empty it and put it in the freezer. You should have 3-4 of them in there for each drinker. Put your vermouth in the refrigerator. If you are cheap, pour some vermouth in a shotglass. You do not need much of it. After about one hour, take out your martini glass, slam some vermouth in it, roll the glass and let the vermouth cover the inside of the glass, and empty the glass. If cheap, back into the shot glass. You can reuse that shit. Now fill the marini glass with gin. Twist some lemon over it, do not throw compost material in your drink, just twist over. Get those oil out there. Drink. Later in the evening, the gin do not need to be that cold, just leave the bottle on the table. You dont really need that lemon thing, and the gin will be perfectly happy if you show it a picture of a bottle of vermouth. Skål!

I’ve never had a martini but I absolutely love gin. I drink gin neat or gin and tonic with a splash of like. Should I dry a gin martini?
Excuse me, but who let you drink alcohol from young age?
Who doesn't love a good martini?! Cheers mate!

I learned a lot from you bro.,thanks a lot.
Well done. What I learned is always double strain if the glass has no ice
I live the flavor if dry gin
You can use vodka but it doesn’t have botanicals
If I was served that , I’d send it back and say fill it up !
And I'd say "no worries" and proceed to charge you extra because drink prices in a bar are calculated based on ingredients and volume.
Or...2 shots of Gin, a splash of dry white Vermouth over ice. Add an olive. 3 shots will get you bigger tips!🙂
With a martini, you want to be careful doing a double because it's irresponsible for you as a bartender and can make you liable
Do you ever do olives and lemon twist together?
Yep! 👍
Extra credit for using a traditional size cocktail glass and not one of those gargantuan ones you see all over.
I like a Nick & Nora for this one as well. Great for a sipping cocktail like this
Thanks for this! Very helpful 😘
Absolute classic. So many variations to play with.
brilliant mate

Did you put the martini into the gin? Have I missed this moment?
Very tasty.
Did you just throw away the Vermouth ?
No worries. Vermouth always spoils before you can finish the whole bottle.

Yea but if you're cool you order shaken obviously
@Dude on the internet This man made his point. Well done.
Never shake in my opinion
It breaks the ice and dilutes it too much
Movie Bond basically orders a watered down martini and being snobby about it
Shaking it changes the texture a little bit thicker and it’s more diluted
Thanks you for excellent..
Bang 3 of these and your 🚀 🌕
Wf! And what happened with the Vermouth?🤣🙄
Exactly my question - think it was largely discarded because he's making a very dry martini...
I usually put 5-1 proportion of gin to vermouth.
He just used it to coat the ice and glass, also known as an “in and out” martini.
I don't like vermouth so I am cool with that.
Some bartender do that
@@dragonchr15Do you just drink straight up gin then? 😅

I love martinis. when i make mine at home i dont measure. i just know the amts lol
Nice 😃👌 cheers
No bitters?
It doesn’t need it sometimes
what about the bitters?
Traditionally speaking it doesn't include them! Although it's mother cocktail, the Martinez does!
this is just pure gin or am i wrong? why throw the vermout away?
When you rinse a glass with the vermouth a layer of it lingers on the inside, giving you a touch of that flavour!
Makes for a really dry martini by imparting some vermouth flavor without making it standout too much
Instead of wasting the vermouth, use less. Or does that make too much sense?
Why do you cost the ice?
AND IF YOU HAVE BLUE CHEESE OLIVES, PUT TWO OR THREE AND IT WILL TURN IT INTO A FANTASTIC MARTINI.
That's my dad's preferred way for sure!
You put the vermouth aside but never used it? What did I miss?
Really dry martini I guess🤔😋
He used it. He stirred it with the ice right before the gin which leaves a coat on the ice. He even said the less vermouth the dryer the martini.
nice
So, you are drinking straight gin??
Pretty much!
