It’s funny that he says it’s “not doing anything risky” when they practically created the genre 2nd wave emo. In the grand scheme a lot of bands sound like them, they were just the first to do it
Brad was having one of his real pompous days that day, huh? Which is a shame, cause this album is a wonderful time and a real grower (at least for myself).
I wish Brad wasn't so playful with soundbites and actually listened to the album, attention span excuses was too much and the chat should've been off fr Timestamps: 1. "Little League" - 01:29 2. this band invented math rock while being in high school. also pioneered midwest emo sound. and post hardcore at times with a punk vibes. So thank them for that. no ATDI without them
It's obvious that Brad didn't recognise this album so he doesn't know if it's good or not, but it's so annoying when he just doesn't pay attention, plus the obnoxious chat really doesn't help. Did literally no one know that this band is pretty well known and is Mike Kinsella and his brother's band before they went on to make American Football? And the comments... You could show them Velvet Underground and Nico and say it's a small underground lofi band from the midwest and they'd all be like "meh this song isn't really good he can't sing 3/10". Not to say this album is as good as Velvet's but they just have no agency. A hive mind for real, they couldn't recognise quality if it sat on their nose. Also, the awful soundbites, like he just plays them over half the songs. By the end he just hasn't heard half the album. Waste
Idk I think it's interesting to see a reaction from someone NOT knowing an album's reputation. Knowing the reputation and influence certainly helps one's perspective, but I don't see it as a necessity. It's nice to see the perspective on an album as a standalone contained piece, I don't think brad was not listening or anything, calm laser-focused relaxation is not always the way to listen to this type of music yknow I do agree that the chat is pretty damn annoying, honestly most of brads fanbase that regularly goes in his livestreams are annoying. I guess a fanbase of a music creator with a brash and memedic personality eventually becomes like fantano... mostly cynical to the point of indulgent annoyance & calling out other styles/genres out of their taste as trash. Someone said that spamming 'hot buttered soul' thousands of times was genuinely fun... just fuckin weird Brad should keep doing what he does without being too swayed by his core audience, either that or move on to a more refined vibe minus the indulgence cuz yeah the soundbites are getting annoying (they were funny the first couple months, now they're rlly wearing our the joke) Love the Gish profile pic btw!
i wasn't there but i agree and think you hit the nail on the head ... everyone person guitar, lyricsist, drummer bassist they alll hit it.. fucking shame this band was a one and done.. its 2024 and peaople still are listening....

Lizardman aka Bill has sent in a lot of chill, contemplative music like this lately, and I've enjoyed it all. Shout out to the homie 🦎

they didn't invent math rock, but they did invent the type of twinkly math rock a lot of later math rock bands and midwest emo bands used.

You might want to check out the band Owls. It was a later incarnation of Cap’n Jazz, minus Davey.
