Mikey, an easy way to estimate the amount of yarn needed for long tail cast on is to wrap the yarn around your needles the number of cast on stitches requested. So . . If the instructions tell you to cast on 42 stitches, just wrap the yarn around the needle(s) 42 times.

Great video, you make me want to pick up my knitting needles lol. I haven't knitted since I started crocheting with you. This is a lovely afghan and can't wait to try it. Thanks Mikey, once again you make everything look so easy. FYI, I have never felt like you over explain. For me, you explain things you feel we need to know to understand the pattern and I appreciate it. Great Job!!!😊

Mikey, a good way to estimate the yarn needed for the long tail cast on is to wrap your needle 10 times, then use that measurement to get your yarn length. In other words, 90 starting stitches means length of wrap nine times.

My dorm Mother was English and I watched knit in continental. When I made a wave afghan, I used the continental stitch for the knitted rows so I didn’t need to turn my work. Just a thought..

I have always loved this stitch pattern. It has also been known as “Old Shale”. There is a vintagefree project pattern on the Internet called “Round Old Shale Tablecloth”.
To celebrate my 30th year work anniversary, I have been working on winter scarves for my coworkers. 8 done, the ninth(and last) scarf has 12-15 more repeats before it’s completed. For most of them, I have been using Hobby Lobby’”I Love This Yarn”, and getting anywhere from 85-93 (4-row) repeats.
I have been using the following 4rows for my pattern.
Row 1=knit 23 sts, sl last st as to knit….Row 2=Knit 3sts, Purl 18sts, knit 2, sl last st as to knit…...Row 3=Knit3 sts, (K2 tog)3x, (YO, K1)6x, (K2 tog)3x,k2sts, sl last st as to k………Row 4=K 23 sts, sl last st as to k.

This pattern has been known as Old Shale, an 18 stitch repeat, and is VERY old. My 96 year old mother learned Old Shale from her mother! Feather and Fan has a 14 stitch repeat.

I know I'm probably greedy, but I'm hoping for the the next video on how to do the Aran toggle wrap.... I've tried reading the instructions and they make no sense...especially since Mikey had us do a different stitch to turn at each edge than the creator uses.

Do you have any tutorials on how to knit? Not just beginner patterns, but actually from step one?

🤦🏻‍♀️ I knit backwards and left handed and I’m a righty 🤣🤣🤣 I guess that’s what happens when you sit across and watch. 🤣 but it comes out correctly.
