Your dad sounds fascinating! Does he still work on/ride bikes to this day? You should do a video with your dad!

loved seeing the kids into bikes at that age. Its such a positive hobby to pick up at that age. I still havent been on a dirt bike track, cant wait. hopefully soon.

What i like about you is you dont care what you ride! You domt attach status or ego to a motorcycle. You appreciate everuthing!

I've always been a fan of the old bikes, but never really appreciated the old British iron until some years ago... and now there's a BSA in my garage :) Took a couple rides to get used to the shifting, but I remember in Motorcycle class (in the 90s) they taught you, when "emergency" stopping to push down with both feet, just in case! I was so confused at the time but it all made sense with the old BSA. The nice thing about restoring the machine yourself (or helping anyway) is that you'll know how to fix what breaks when you are out on it. Couple of spanners, some pliers, and tape and you should be good to go.

My newest motorcycle is an 89 Guzzi Cali 3 that i have owned for over 20 years.
    Obviously left foot shift.
I have no problems switching from bike to bike with the older right foot shift.
My 79 Triumph i actuslly converted to right shift - saves weight, more trad.
My off road trials bikes are left foot shift, but up is done using the back of the boot.
Harley/Indian foot clutch hand change i may have a slight problem with.
Best vlog in a long long time Jamie, but then i'm biased loving the old stuff and have no interest in plastic.
    Cheers!

Great video, I raced GlenHelen in the early 70’s (Arroyo Cycle Park) and raced Eddie Mulders vintage flattrack on a 66 BSA Trackmaster and a Yam 500 cammer. At 71 living from my memories but still have my hot shoe?

I bought a 1972 Honda XL250 that was a basket case, it took me 22$ and lots of TLC and now it’s a runner. If you stay focused and really understand your machine and it’s quirks, you’ll find so much more then it’s engineering. It’s the experiences, the simplicity and conversations with strangers that really make vintage motorcycles worth it. However, registration costs more then I paid for the bike. So that’s the one negative.

Pro tip, if you keep jumping that old trumpet watch out for the foot pegs they will brake at the dowel pin that locates them and then you will rack yourself. Reinforce to frame to prevent it. Ask me how I know lol

    • @motogeo
      @motogeo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

maybe some lock-tight! I got a Tipex pen and put a line on the nut and a dot next to it, then you can see if they move. Getting an old bike running as well as that takes a lot of skill an knowledge. Respect to your dad.

Every time I'd change gear on my '59 James, I pull in the clutch and say in my head "I want to change UP so kicking DOWN"
it's a killer when you get muddled on an incline and the revs drop.
Also, completely agree; the brakes are awful.
