  • During the 57th New York Film Festival, the Writers Guild of America, East presented a celebration of writers who understand that New York City is more than the quintessential urban landscape, more even than a state of mind: it’s a supporting character in the stories these writers tell. New York is also a foil for their other characters-an object of affection, consternation, fear, and inimitable beauty. Panelists included JC Chandor (A Most Violent Year), Geoffrey Fletcher (Precious), Gillian Robespierre (Obvious Child, Landline), and Steven Zaillian (The Irishman). Moderated by Paul Schrader (First Reformed, The Last Temptation of Christ).
A centerpiece of New York culture since 1963, the New York Film Festival will introduce the most essential new cinematic works from around the world to U.S. audiences in its Main Slate. NYFF will also continue to feature a variety of titles in different sections and sidebars, including Spotlight on Documentary, newly rejuvenated classics in Restorations and Revivals, a diverse selection of international and locally made Shorts, the ever-expanding experimental showcase Projections, and the immersive storytelling experiences of the cutting-edge Convergence. Additionally, there will be an exciting lineup of special events, free filmmaker talks and panel discussions, and the latest editions of our annual Industry and Critic Academies.

Its amazing how zaillian, the man who wrote Schindler's list and The Irishman, was the least talkative there. Humbled🙏🏼

I literally CAME here to here more from Zallian....and I had to hear reams and reams from everyone BUT. Zallian is a genius-- his films are masterclasses in storytelling.
