A trending clip of Nigerian Businesswoman confronting her maid after she allegedly caught her with a bucket containing her urine and menstrual blood, has caused a stir online.
In the clip making the rounds the woman can be heard narrating how she brought the girl identified as Farida, into her house in December and bought her some underwear, including sanitary towels.
According to her, during the maid’s monthly periods, she helps the girl burn her sanitary pads and she does most of the chores in the house so as not to overwork the girl.
On Tuesday, March 14, the madam reportedly caught the maid mixing her urine and period blood in a bucket.
The househelp was questioned and later confessed that she planned to put it in the children’s water bottle

True Naija mama. While age appropriate discipline make sense...what I love more is the fact that you recognize the role for right discipline, right time and you held nothing against the fact that it came from your house help.

Lol, fantastic. They call it abuse but I call it the beginning of wisdom, common sense, correction, structuring and adjustment. 😂😂😂😂
No African mother will wait until their children start beating them or shoot them before they start the correction. A lot of children has been lost to institutions because of lack of discipline. They medicate them to the point of no return while claiming they are helping them. That, is an abuse. However, I’m not saying a child should be abused. But some igbati and abara’s does the job some years back, I received mine and I’m enjoying my life today. 😂😂

Personally, there's nothing wrong with the house help disciplining the child. But as a parent, you should teach the workers or help certain disciplinary measures to use on the child when they go wrong. Very Important. Most people do not know how to discipline a child. She might have slapped your child for that silly attitude, tomorrow, she might hit that child with something or do something worse. Why? Because you already gave them the go ahead from the start. Granted, the child did the wrong thing, knowing the help slapped her will make me warn my child not to repeat that action again. But then, I'll tell the help not to slap her but teach her the disciplinary measures she should use should the child go wrong again...measures that are very safe but will correct that child's behavior, this includes some certain kinds of punishment. If you go beyond these disciplinary measures and act as you please, you lose your job. Period!

Well done Morayo!!while We should be mindful that our helps are not physically abusive to our children, I am a firm believer that our help should be able to discipline our children because they spend more time with the children than a working parents do!! So they stand in the place of an adult when we are not there. If they fail and look away from their bad behaviour, we stand to lose!! My help use to be able to discipline my children, those within limits!!😂

Agression is never needed in the upbringing of children. So, with all the abuse towards children & women, elderly people in this world, you want to excuse staff in your home for slapping your child? As you explained it was a slap out of annoyance, slapping is often an outburst of uncontroled emotions not being channeled in the right way; like simply using words to correct your child or giving time out or take away some privileges for example. Or do a chore of some sort to help the Help she clearly disrespected with her behavior. Just saying there are other non violent ways to correct her behavior. All your doing now is teaching her to slap someone is ok & normal. It never is.
But, perhaps within Nigerian culture slapping is the normal thing to do. Teachers probably are still doing it within the school system too, but it's wrong. Sorry if this offends anyone but I would not like that for any child.
There are other less aggressive ways to discipline your child. And as for the help, she should NEVER, and I repeat NEVER be the one doing the disciplinig. She should come with your daughter to YOU, her mother and you will then decide on the disciplinary measures to be taken.
No offense and it's probably more common in your culture to 'slap'. But why if you can solve the issue at hand without physical aggression?

Giving 2 or 3 strokes of cane on the palm is discipline. That's structured beating. Even abara on the back is our traditional discipline. Slapping is NOT a disciplinary measure because it's too reactive. Usually done in reflex and from a vexed/angry spirit. We really shouldn't be slapping anyone, child or not.
If you slapped your help for bad behaviour, would she accept it as discipline?
Your were at home and as such, she should have come to report. We would scold our child and ensure he/she apologizes immediately. She would even still be punished for using the iPad outside of the allowed hours. However, it's disrespectful that she didn't report. One day, as a child, if she did something else that upset the househelp again, she would kukuma beat her up. NO WAY!
No one should be able to come into our home and have a right to slap our child. NO. Her job ends there and then. My husband doesn't take such lightly at all.
