@@dyeace the relative time period this is set in actually had the first stock markets... there was even a massive stock market bubble involving tulips 🌷 in the Netherlands during this time period, that is commonly known as the first stock market crash. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_mania (also probably the inspiration for this arc, as the author studied medieval/ renaissance Europe). It's always is ,people know day trade stock are very risky but they hope if they do it right they may get some return on investment. Greed driving this world especially capitalism
It is really unusual to see people talking about S&W in a good way or in some detailed ways. As a fan of the series I want to say you've done a good job !
pnicful I want to watch this anime so badly. I own it on DVD, the world building seems amazingly in depth. Especially, the economy aspects. But every time I try I fail. The story just seems so blah. But I will give it another go. You've motivated me! 🤔😃
I loved spice and wolf and truly wished they continued on with the series. The creator of the show also made some VN's involving economics too that i highly recommend. They are called World's End Economica. There are 3 parts to them and are on Steam, but it gives a MUCH closer look into how the stock market works.
+Syl von Braun - Because of Spice & Wolf, the anime leaving me hanging, desperately wanting to know how the story would conclude, I finally ventured into reading Light Novels. The story ended in volume 16 and what a breathtaking read it has been (the manga hasn't caught up to the end yet). It was almost sad to have to say goodbye to Holo and Lawrence, but luckily there was the volume 17 Epilogue and Isuna Hasekura has started writing Spice and wolf again, with volume 18 and 19 being a collection of short stories, a volume 20 having been released but not yet translated (hopefully by the end of this year) and 2 volumes of the side story Wolf & Parchment... (volume 3 is in the works). So the story is far from over! After I'm through (caught up) with the Light Novels I plan to start reading the manga...... ;)
Just so you're aware, the term "Fool's Gold" comes from when oblivious miners thought they hit a mother lode, but were unable to realize that instead of gold, they just found an almost useless mineral of iron.
Actually, pyrite often contains trace amounts of real gold (although hard to extract), and often forms under the same conditions as gold veins. So sometimes there is real gold near the pyrite deposits.
As someone who has taken microeconomics and macroeconomics within the last year, I appreciate the level of detail you went through to explain and to connect the theoretical concepts to the anime. Spice and Wolf was one of my most favorite series!
This is the first anime I watched and it is really good. She isn’t some Deus ex Machina girl who instantly love him for no reason she's has her own story. He was just as much a solution to her loneliness as she was to him. That's why this is by far one of my favorite animes.
Isuna Hasekura hás started writing again,... If interest is high enough,... who knows? (Nah,.. not likely ;) ). But frankly, although the anime got a solid 8/10 from me, after reading the Light Novels a new season would be welcome but would not compare to the books, which I give a 10/10
Hahaha, ironic indeed. :) But the enthousiasm/interest for the story has not diminished in the meantime, in fact, I get the feeling it's popularity is still growing. There definitely is enough material to finish the Spice & Wolf story as the writing of the main story is done. But actually, there is too múch material... ;) It would take at léast 6 more seasons if not more, to finish it in a way worthy of the LN. They just couldn't cram that into one season or a 2 part movie for instance. They might try though, as it probably would sell. I'm satisfied with the LN and the way it was concluded, even more so with the Epilogue volume 17, I'm happy with the anime series we got so far as it painted an amazingly beautiful picture of the main characters and especially their world so well,....but would honestly be hesitant to watch any effort to rush a new anime version to conclusion. More often than not anime series are only produced as a promotional campaign for light novels or other source material (which in this case worked on me, for once, only regarding Spice & Wolf so far) and as there already is enough interest in the Wolf & Parchment novels as a result of the S&W success, I doubt they will see the need to create an anime about that series, other than of course..... a few quick bucks. And again we would in the end be left with another unfinished anime series (and there are already só many of those around, really an issue I have with the industry, but that's another discussion.... ;) ) I'm almost done with everything novel wise,.... and then it's on to the manga! :)
You are great my friend! If you continue making such quality content you deserve to get recognized. There are rarely any anime reviews out there which i enjoyed as much. Thank you.
Hey guys, I wanted to give a quick update. I'm sorry for the late video, I try to aim for one every 1 - 2 weeks. Unfortunately a hurricane parked itself on my city for 4 days! I was in an evacuation area, but my house and car are dry, it just delayed this video :) I've got some ones coming that I'm excited about, and I hope you'll like them too! I'm blown away by the support I've gotten, and can only hope I continue to put out content you enjoy.
I'm a fan of this series and i'm glad you can explain what i feel when i watch this series. I just cant tell it in a right way 😂😂😂 and i like hachikuji too 😁😁😁😁
Whenever I show this show to someone, and they see the theme song or...well, any scene with a naked wolf, I always find myself having to say, "Just trust me, the economics in this show is really good." ...Yes, my friends and I have strange interests. If you want us to watch a particularly show, you'd be better off including the word "microeconomics" rather than "sexy wolf deity" or something similar.
Not sure if you will ever read this, but the kinetic novel World End Economica from the same author is pretty similar in the sense that this time it really handles the stock market with all its pitfalls. Maybe something you could be interested in, if not for research just for a similar experience (minus the roadtrip feeling).
I own both parts but only read through episode 1 so far and it is not the best thing ever written (in my opinion there are parts you can clearly see where they cut decisions to make the story easier to accomplish by not having branching story parts), but as someone with little knowledge about the stock market it was still a nice window into a world that i had little knowledge about (with decent characters and a unique setting too).
Is it really economics though, or is it all just commerce? Seems a lot like commerce to me, but perhaps it is all a matter of perspective. From a high vantage point it looks like economics, but down in the trenches it looks like commerce. Spice and Wolf takes place solely in the metaphorical trenches; I'd say it's commerce.
There is a modern equivalent of silver devaluation. It is called currency manipulation, and countries do it all the time. Indeed, Japan has intentionally made its yen weaker than it should be against the USD(at the US government's request, no less), otherwise they really would have bought up the US completely and their 90s collapse might not have actually come to pass. To put it simply, exchanging currencies such as USD and Yen is no different that trading silver coins of differing purity values. George Soros in particular bet against the British Pound, Thai Bhat, and Polish Złoty and then much like Lawrence and Holo in the Iron Pyrite arc, crashed the market in those countries in much the same manner that the King did with the silver coins. That arc is very much significant today.
This anime is clearly not for kids and not because of sex or violence. First off, many adults still don't know enough about this world and economy, in particular, to actually follow the story. Second, some characters are very deep. As much as I like Holo and her exploits, she's pretty much a horrible person: expensive, narcissistic, ruthless and manipulative and she even abuses Lawrence both physically and mentally and her abuse is not just her losing her temper, but worse: she tries to domesticate him and shape him into a trained dog. Many people don't realize it, but what she did throughout the story is something that happens in pretty much the same order in real life over and over again resulting into abusive relationships where the victims get trapped in...
Prince Lorian I know that you commented 8 months ago, but there’s only little economics if you watch the anime or read the manga. The light novels are NOT light on the economics.
@@Percival7116 Yeah, the narwhal arc-which is my favourite, almost plunged 2 major city into war in response to the flow of cash being strongly disturbed. I know this hardly proves how much economics play a role in spice and wolf-which, in any case, hardly because it in itself is not one so; but the complexity it offers can be too much to be narrated in just a few sentences.
Lawrence is the ultimate MC. He crashes the stock market for his waifu.
Holo's not a waifu-simply because she exists! (for him anyway)

It's not mocking and it's not a joke, this series really is largely about economics. And it's honestly real neat.

I had no idea, I'll have to check them out!
There's also a manga "Billionaire Girl". If I have to say it simply, romance drama meets stock market.
That's why I switched to the mangas. Right now I'm at No. 15 and waaaay further into the story than the anime. I don't regret it.
