    It'd be nice to see some other OS on this, particularly the "lite" Windows releases. People will hardly need every part of Windows for what they'll be doing with what is essentially a TV box.

    Recently i have been struggling and looking into native decoding of vp9 and av1 on linux on my old haswell Pentium dual core pc. Was looking for a low end chip to do exactly this. Video playback and good enough browsing experience. Thanks for this kinda thorough review of devices. You are the best in the game. 🍻

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes I was using Raspberry PI btu they are too slow and video performance is terrible HEVC or VP9 is a choppy mess. At least these Intel chips handle video really well! Especially these 10W ones.

    I am excited for the new AMD processors with RDNA 2. I think they will be awesome in those mini PCs. Let's hope we see some models this year.

    • @Techtablets
      @Techtablets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I hope so too! Looking forward to reviewing those but for now I have a Ryzen 9 5900 model to review, and some 11th gen Intel ones. Plus an older 8259U 8th gen I got from companies. So a lot of mini PC reviews to come, just not the new RDNA 2 power ones they will come end of the year.

      @@Techtablets still awesome. I love the mini PCs videos, too bad they aren't so popular so we don't get a lot of options right now, but maybe things will change in the future.

    Just as an aside, they've lowered the fan speed RPM by 22% to minimize the noise while keeping the M6 efficient - this is based on the feedback in videos like yours. Should be a less noisy.

    Love the form factor, port selection, storage upgrade option and the overall performance for a general media playback and browsing and office work pc. Just wish to have it dual channel ram and CPU power tweak option, considering that it has a pretty big fan for the type of CPU. Hope they can release a bios update to unlock the CPU power control and a fan control option so that user has the option to get more performance with higher fan speed, if user is okay.
    Can you please check the Linux support on this?

    A monitor with a USB C input should be used instead since the miniPC has the USB-C video output, would hope someone else will put up a proper video to demonstrate it, instead of all the mumbo jumbo here.

  • @srvuk
    @srvuk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Lack of dual channel RAM is an instant No No as far as a prospective purchase would be concerned.
    Otherwise, specs are good and the storage and I/O ports are good for expansion.

    You have excellent content with perfectly-polished production value both audio and video. Thank you.
    1:33 --- thank you for the fan sound/noise information.
    6:23 --- thank you for info on RAM speed not being at fulsome 2933.
    6:33 --- single channel, too bad.
    16:10 --- Hmmm, quite intriguing. I would assume that 16GB RAM would stay in single channel. Wouldn't a slightly modified PCB-mobo be needed for dual channel? I am guessing that the cooling fan is not obscuring an unused mount point for a second RAM channel as the PCB-mobo is quite compact. WITH THAT ALL BEING SAID, with the operating system indicating, for example, at 6:33: **"SLOTS USED: [only] 1 OF 2,"** could the O/S also be enumerating the potential physical states, i.e. that there are two physical slots available to become populated?

    q1. How come device makers like this wouldn't make the usb-c port able to support pd [ power delivery ] as well so that you attached this to back of modern thunderbolt port enabled monitor and with single usb-c cable serve power to device, video output to display, and establish connection to usb hub built into monitor?
    q2. Can the vesa mount be used when the monitors stand that it ships with is already using up that space, e.g. as in the case of all dell + lenovo + lenovo monitors?
    q3. Will you be doing a comparison of this with the gmktec nucbox5 powered by same celeron n5105 apu?

    According to a comment on the Indiegogo campain discussion, you can set the fan speed at least. Thanks for the nice review! I did miss the power consumption figures though, I'd like to use this as a small server, which will stay on 24/24 and thus idle power consumption is important to me.

    This would make a great NAS machine. You can get a m.2 to SATA adapter with 5 satat ports and drive 5 HDD, but you'll need a bit more power to dive the drivers. The Pico Power supply would work great 👍🏾. I'd definitely do that and run Linux on this.
    Or you can run a graphic card on that M.2 port and do some decent gaming.

    The design of this unit is really, really nice and well thought. You even have ethernet, on the other video i probably saw that you can even power it from some power bank ;p
    Yeah, sure, the question is: do you really need something this tiny ? - for similar price you may get (on sale) some Ryzen miniPc from minisforum, which is yea, bigger but on the other hand, performance is so much better, as well as cooling etc. (but wattage consumption is also bigger, which may be important if you want to have something that works ie. 24 h / d :) )
    Still, if you look for something of the size similar to Raspberry PI case, then I would say, this is truly great, and actually nicely priced. I mean, all of these 4125, n4100 tiny/miniPCs are now only slightly cheaper than this.

    • @kyleking7060
      @kyleking7060 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the topton one a clone? This is interesting, I wonder if they managed the aperently innovative task of basic voltage controlled fan speeds, or better yet pwm considering this is a mobile SoC is designed with a passive coolable power envelope, why would you slap a 12v fan at 100% constant onto something so small that a full speed not small fan would be clearly audible if not slightly whiney to the user, this is a tragic desin decision...just saying...Iv ordered a topton one now that I know it's a clone I will do a full teardown of this and look for any indication that there is more than just the vcc and ground conductors to the fan as this would indicate the possibility that this clone actualy has some fan speed control, I think if not I'm just going to solder in a low ohm resistor(diy low noise adapter like noctuas) as I'm planning on running this as only a basic samba server to take advantage of usb 3.1 hdd speeds spindown features that are an advantage over serial ata on a server and the 2.5gbe i225 ethernet will alow me to take full advantage of the max R/W speeds of a multi drive hdd bay and I will be able to power this from the same overkill psu I have put together for that bay...perhaps if this has no fan control I will just integrate this entire unit into the hdd enclosure and utilize its airflow as it's a bit overkill as a commercial enclosure that I built the system into lol...
