@@nikajinpusno9563 This is the sad truth. Bionicle only came about because Lego was in dire straits and needed to take a huge risk, so they made a long-running story and complex lore aligned with cool action figures. Bionicle flopped hard in its final years, though, probably because kids who grew up with it were aging out and the story was becoming too complicated for new kids to get into without having been there for the earlier parts. Bionicle's aesthetic and tone would never be matched, because the 2000s were a unique time where kids' media tried to be edgy and hardcore (hence why they promoted it with music that sounds like Evanescence). They've found a formula that works with Ninjago, and if they were to bring Bionicle back they would probably stick to that formula until it stops working. If anything, a sanitized, safe reboot with none of the complex lore, continuous story, weirdness, or insane creativity is the best we're going to get. My hope is that if Lego ever goes into financial trouble again like the did in the late 90s, they'll do another weird edgy experiment that's at least comparable to Bionicle.
@@theotheraccount True - they tried a sanitised, safe reboot without a complex lore, or weirdness or insane creativity (all the GOOD things) in 2015. But it was obvious from the start than it was way too basic of a story, even if compared with Bionicle's 2001 basic good vs evil narrative. There was zero depth, zero mystery, zero originality. It all looked at best as a cringe lousy knock-off, including the sets. It looked like something you'd find on a Chinese novelty website selling Bionicle knock-off brands, despite the fact that the combination of the socket and ball joint and gears system was pretty great. The entire building system lost its finess and intricacy because it was Hero Factory's building system reused, with chunky blocks that attach to the figure instead of using gears, pins etc. The original LEGO Technic intricacy was still present in gen 1 Bionicle sets, even after the much-despised "Inika build" that everyone complains about - despite every other evolution of the building system coming about every 2-3 years (think 2001 Toa Mata to 2003 Toa Nuva - and even enemy Bohrok sets! - the same build repeated for 3 years, until 2004 Toa Metru evolution.) I for one think the Inika build was a great peak of the building system, and could have been evolved in the 2009 Glatorian line into what the 2015 Toa used - ball-and-socket combined with gears (It's important to mention also the new 2008 Makuta torsos). You can't forget also the Titan sets and the vehicle sets which always kept Bionicle deeply rooted in the Technic system with their intricacy, despite the cheaper action figure sets evolving to use more simplified builds. I agree the storyline at one point got too complicated and was overrunning the sales of toys (which was lego's primary objective as a toy company), so there's that as well. Lego is, sadly, not Marvel after all. They sell toys and tell stories to help sell them, not use merchandise to sell their stories. Finally, as I said, the change between the late 90s and 2015 was huge, so the historical moment in which Bionicle was born was unique and - as you mentioned - it is unknown when another crisis will hit Lego. I think even if it does, the world will have changed even more by that time and it's unlikely that Bionicle specifically will be making a comeback even then.
