I hate comments like the one I'm about to make. John, you and Olaf make films. YT does not differentiate in quality, but you two make films. Not YT videos. Lighting and sound on your videos is ALWAYS on point. As is the content. I was waaaayyyy off on my guess on number of hours required to make this work. There is one other channel that seems to have the passion for the product and respect for the audience and the talent to make the quality of film you do on YT and they are not in the audio space. There are plenty of decent or good YT creators in hi-fi. I can't think of one that puts the pieces together as you and Olaf do.
I have in the past recommended new TH-cam reviewers to watch your channel as a format to achieve. I have also recommended the British audio file and Steve Guttenburg. These all have variations of quality and style, but I do think all of you speak to the Audio community in genuine way. Thank you for all your hard work. It is appreciated. Montreal , Canada
This explains why your videos are so good and look like professional productions. Clearly a lot of time and effort goes into your videos and it shows in the end product.
I am not an audiophile nor interested much in such high end equipment, but I watch your videos because I enjoy and appreciate the feel and look as well as your clear composed explanation. Keep it up 👍👏
As a video editor, I am very aware of the amount of actual time it takes to put together good content. Thanks for your efforts and showing your followers what it takes to create the videos they enjoy.
Not surprised - perhaps even envious. It’s taking me 3 weeks working min 12 hours a day to complete a 7 min video (lots of motion graphics). Delighted to hear - you do all your own editing - everyone telling me I’m dumb - but love it so much. Hate to let it go. You inspire me to create quality. Keep up great work 😊
Darko - can we get more videos each week? Kidding. Love what you guys do - it really does show in the final product. I'm always looking forward to the next video.
Hi, I'm retired now but used to work a 40 hour week doing electrical work and I hated it. Wish I could have done something for a living that I actually enjoyed. Music and HiFi has always been a passion of mine and still is. Thanks for your professional and informative videos which are the best on TH-cam.
John, you hit the nail on the head, as usual. I used to run an Event Video business, and when I'd do weddings, the couple could never understand why a wedding video would cost so much more than a Photographer. Several times I'd explain that a video is between 24 and 30 pictures a second, compared to a photographer just giving them 10 or so images in total. When I've explained a 10-15 minute video would take 40 hours to produce, they used to think I was nuts... You've explained it much better than I could have done. Well done!
Had no idea it takes that much time. Amazing that you do it at all. Sounds like most of us audio nuts appreciate it, I certainly do! Thanks for all the effort, I personally think your vid’s are the best overall. Cheers
Exactly the effort you invest in your review videos makes it so high value. Same goes for Andrew R. - you both have such great quality in the content and go really long way to make it interesting, informative and easy on the eyes. You are right B content is SO important. It is great to actually see the devices up close, but also gives videoes some variation. Keep up the good work🤗
Back in the day, I hated working in the TV production. People never realise what it takes to make a production, particularly the hours involved. Keep up the good work, and I hope you continue to enjoy what you are doing. 😃
All creative decisions are up to you. In this respect, the videos produced, like any short film, are also an expression of creative work. This - which is certainly often underestimated by viewers - often exposes you to undifferentiated or even hateful criticism from people who do nothing - except rant. Therefore, respect for the personal investment of every creator should be at the beginning of every consideration and every criticism. Criticize the way you would like to be criticized. And don't be sparing with appreciation or praise. Thank you for the videos, which I enjoy watching because of the high production quality and the approach. Even if I'm not really interested in the specific product in each case, I see a high entertainment value.
It takes me a good week to get a speaker dialed perfectly into a room. Even then, I don't really know the speaker inside and out until I've had at minimum 6 months with it. I usually listen 3-5 hours daily and some days even longer. I could never be able to pump out a review in a month or less. There's still a lot of unknown in that little amount of time. Thank you for pumping out reviews in a timely manner though. I would never be able to do your job. I think it would take the joy out of the hobby after a while.
The only channel on which everything is clear and understandable without unnecessary information! Thank you John for your high level of professionalism. Today, music is the only thing that really helps me to distract myself from the war in my country, at least not for long. thanks again John for your work!!!
It's worth every minute - the production quality is top tier: beautiful to look at, a joy to listen to. Many inform but few entertain *and* inform - you reliably deliver both. Just the thing when I need to take a load off - whether or not I give a stuff about what's actually under review (although I often do, and it has resulted in purchases... £$€). Have discovered lots of new-to-me music too... shared tastes: handy👍
As a video editor and a hi-fi fan, I agree with everything you said. I watch your videos for their artistic quality AND the content. I had a good giggle watching you edit the video you were working on. Nicely done.
I have always enjoyed your videos, often more than the particular product you are reviewing. It was obvious to me that you and Olaf took a lot of time and care, but I wouldn’t have guessed the amount of hours was so high. Keep up the great work, it is inspiring.
John, it’s Friday morning as I’m watching this and as you get the paper filter out my lizard brain takes over and follows along visualizing me making my morning cup which I will be enjoying soon. The other part of my brain really enjoyed the video learning all that it takes to put out your reviews. It also informed me as to why this one of a select few channels dedicated to audio that I will spend my time watching. I appreciate all that you and Olaf do to turn out top notch videos.
Dear John, your you tube channel is my favourite. It's very interesting to see the amount of hard work that's going on behind the scenes, and that's (only) for video production. Another topic is all that time that you had to invest in your quest to get all that know-how. Always something new and inspiring. You and Olaf are very unique with your sharp eyes and attention to detail. You have got good taste in design as well, so your shows are pretty much a work of art, as a nice audio gear that you are reviewing. Keep up with good work, and stay well. Thank you sincerely for countless hours of joy.
As someone who used to work in consumer product reviews and someone who is painfully familiar with post-production (editing, etc), I am acutely aware of how much time your videos take. Many of us do notice the work you do. But I am surprised to hear that you don't ship out your editing. It's a beast.
Great info. I used to be a curriculum designer/developer for aircraft maintenance courses. We averaged 50-250 hours to develop 1 hour of classroom instruction-depending on system/subsystem/component.
Thanks for all the work you do. I’m happy to know you enjoy it and it shows. Watching your videos is pleasant from the sound to the images, also your reviews have a story telling kind of format that makes it very entertaining. Thanks again.
John, great video and thanks for the explanation - all I can say is thank you for the work you do and that the time you spend on your product certainly shows in the end result - it really is excellent and is why I joined your Patreon as well.
A so quality videos like you do, it’s clear they take a lot of working time. I have tough many times to begin to record videos, but it just all the work involved the reason stops me. I began writing in a blog, after this I decided to begin a podcast because I thought it would be easier than writing… terrible mistake, you prepare the text, find the correct and silent time to record, then to edit it, write (as you) and finally publishing… To creat content is a hard work. Thank you so much John for your work for making us enjoy.
I really do like this one, makes me appreciate them even more knowing what goes into it. Many thanks, you're on of very few I actually follow and find myself watching the entire video. The videos are easy on the eye, the audio is always spot on and the music choices ace.
Some reviewers spend a lot less time on their videos - and it shows. Yours are always impeccably put together and both informative and entertaining. Long may you continue.
This video was very informative, I can understand why it takes so long to produce because they are very high quality. I’m sure I’m not alone in appreciating you and Olaf’s work, you have provided us with many hours of excellent entertainment.
Another entertaining and informative video John, you make the highest quality videos on TH-cam with humour and knowledge that you possess, you’re simply the best at this type of gig.
Nicely Done. It sounds like you need an assistant editor/duster/lighting grip & lights /all around help. Thanks for all your hard work it doesn't go unnoticed .
Thanks for this behind the scenes video. The quality of your videos are amazing and now I can see all the hard work that goes into making them. The topic is always right on the money and your attitude is always refreshing. You and Olaf make a great team, and I certainly hope that you continue making super high quality content like this!
Not surprised at all John with the calculation, anyone who has ever created content in just about any media will know that quality equals tons of time and energy!!! Glad you like the process as many of us enjoy the results !!!
John, top video, Pal 🔊🔊 I always enjoy these kind of videos, letting us in on the process behind the upload. Makes us appreciate the videos more, I think. And yes, always entertaining. Cheers bud, Lee UK
Loved this video! Nice to see your process and thank you for the peek behind the scenes. As a video editor and shooter for Skylabs Audio, your channel has always inspired me to get better with each video I work on. Results may vary. 😊 I still have a long way to go, and audio channels like yours are such a great resource for information AND an excellent example for someone like me to aspire to. Cheers! 🍻
That was very informative and educational John. Having had to film myself speaking to camera, I am pleased (for want of a better word) that you are still not comfortable with it- and I have years of radio presenter experience. Not the same thing. And I watched an ex television anchor speaking of the same issue. Very valuable tip about cutting away etc. mid word.. As someone else commented, the coffee B roll is excellent.
Mr. Darko has an interesting problem to solve. He has companies wanting him to review more product, due to the fact that his reviews are excellent, yet he does not have the time to do so, as he explains very well in this video. Normally a business person would simply hire the staff needed to take on more business. But due to Mr. Darko attention to detail and pride of work ethic, he created something that can’t easily be duplicated. He’s more like an artist than a business person. It seems that there are only two ways that he could take on new reviews. The first would be to hire eager young interns that he could teach them exactly what he does and take years doing so eventually those interns will be able to become an expert at a certain task. The second way that Mr. Darko could increase his business would be to merge and partner with similar reviewers like himself. Smart partnering with a successful Reviewer which will allow each of them to specialize in one or two task, which will speed up the entire process. Of course each one of these comes with their own draw backs. One thing is for sure, we now understand why Mr. Darko videos are so good. Thanks for the reviews.
I would have never guessed it takes you 40 hours to do a video start to finish! Thanks for all the work & the results are always great. I think you B roll is first class & have learned a ton about music for the selections you recommend!
I can't thank you enough for making this. I work at a HiFi retailer in the US and do their EVERYTHING for videos. Everything you mentioned. I haven't made one in quite a while because of exactly what you're talking about here. Because it's not all I do. I also do the marketing and many other things. All that being said my boss says to me today, "I get it now" because of this video. And also because of it we're going to come up with a schedule/plan to make it more feasible to create good "watch-worthy" content. It's a mountain to climb but I love all of it. Thank you very very much.
Thank, you, John. Your work is much appreciated, especially by those like me who live at the bottom of the planet where access to hi-fi equipment is not easy.
Fascinating... I recall providing the technical environment needed to develop college level Computer Based Training materials during the early days of computer animation... Our experience was 1 hour of finished products took about 40 man hours of effort in total..
The dust is from all the coffee bean your grind in the video 😂but seriously the level of production you guys put out is extremely good and I'm grateful for it. Keep the great work and thank you!
your time is appreciated and your output even more so, glad you do what you do, you're making good audio reviews accessible to those of us who can't afford the equipment but are hungry for knowledge anbd a reference point on the audio we can afford
Thanks for all the work you do with these videos. The production value shown here is outstanding! Imagine having to spend 40 hours reviewing a landmark piece of hardware and then finding out that the item was out of spec. How do reviewers, either objective or subjective, know that what the manufacturer sends is a sample that is representative?
Thank you, John. I appreciate the effort that goes into making these great videos. My guess was 40 hours. I wonder how you can keep up the output that you do.
Thanks for a look into your process. Your content is top tier and genuinely appreciated. Most youtube content is at least partially painful to watch to glean the info i’m looking for. your videos are actually a joy to watch (plus i value your insights and perspectives on music, gear, and the reproduction of music in a living space). thank you again for your attention to detail.
It was obvious to me that the quality of your videos would require a lot of time, care and effort, but I watched this video anyway, because I always enjoy listening to your comprehensive and superbly articulated takes on gear, music and its many adjacent areas. That’s what I come to your channel for. That and the hi-fi pr0n. (Thanks, John! I’ll keep watching.)
All your videos are a treat to watch. You're a complete natural.

Damn you do not know much about yt.
Oh...and your music transitions within the pieces are great! You understand moments of relief are helpful for us as viewers, well done!

Wow! Now I know why I’ve enjoyed your videos the past several years. Please keep up the excellent work. Thanks.
Informative, entertaining, and relatable. 20-40 hours is standard for me. Thanks for sharing your workflow and all the great videos.
Danke für die Aufklärung und Einsicht hinter die Kulissen! Tolle Arbeit! Du erntest meinen größten Respekt! 😁👍

Any aspiring audiophile youtuber should be saving this vid. It's a tutorial on how to construct quality content.
Darko - can we get more videos each week? Kidding. Love what you guys do - it really does show in the final product. I'm always looking forward to the next video.
I threw out a wild guess of 40 hours before this. No idea where maybe the hours of work in a typical week. Your work is appreciated john and olaff!
I had no idea how much work is involved in turning out a quality video! Thanks for the insights John.
Hi, I'm retired now but used to work a 40 hour week doing electrical work and I hated it. Wish I could have done something for a living that I actually enjoyed. Thanks for all the work.
Love your channel.
One of two best reviewers within Hifi equipment on YT. Thanks John, for this insight, really enjoy just listening to what you have to say. Kudos!

I always thought you had some super-power, now you claim it is just hard work.
I figured this as well. A lot of other youtube reviewers don’t have the same polish as Darko videos. It’s evident and appreciated.
It takes me a good week to get a speaker dialed perfectly into a room. Even then, I don't really know the speaker inside and out until I've had at minimum 6 months with it. John, i have to say that your videos always ooze professionalism and class. Keep up the good work
Your attention to detail doesn’t go unnoticed! My favorite channel hands down!
You make good vids! So it's a 40 hours job with overtime! Never suspected that. Kudos!
The only channel on which everything is clear and understandable without unnecessary information! Thank you John for your high level of professionalism. Fantastic run down of the excellent work you do. Thank you.
As a video editor and a hi-fi fan, I agree with everything you said. I watch your videos for their artistic quality AND the content. I had a good giggle watching you edit the video you were working on. Nicely done.
Well, that didn't turn out like I had expected. Keep it up as long as you can. The quality is the reason why we come back to you.
I have always enjoyed your videos, often more than the particular product you are reviewing. It was obvious to me that you and Olaf took a lot of time and care, but I wouldn’t have guessed the amount of hours was so high. Keep up the great work, it is inspiring.
Quality needs time... simple but true. Go on - we love it.
John, it’s Friday morning as I’m watching this and as you get the paper filter out my lizard brain takes over and follows along visualizing me making my morning cup which I will be enjoying soon. I appreciate the effort you all put in. Thank you very much
Thanks a lot for your tremendous work!
Thank you so much for the effort. I appreciate that there is so much accessible high quality content.
A so quality videos like you do, it’s clear they take a lot of working time.

To creat content is a hard work.
Thank you so much John for your work for making us enjoy.
Really enjoy the effort that you put into the videos you make.
Hi John, Olaf.
I'm a cinematographer, some say world class. Your work is world class, I appreciate you.
Olaf gets the credit there, not me. 🙂
And pictures are nothing without words ❤
The hard work you put into your content is reflected in the superb quality of your reviews. Un point c'est tout.
Great episode. Fascinating. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to quality. I’m addicted to these things!
I really do like this one, makes me appreciate them even more knowing what goes into it. Many thanks, you're on of very few I actually follow and find myself watching the entire video. The videos are easy on the eye, the audio is always spot on and the music choices ace.
This was a lovely video. Thanks for sharing. It makes us appreciate the videos even more.
wow, what an inside full video! cheers for that!
Great work John, keep it going for us all... BIG Thank You.
Another entertaining and informative video John, you make the highest quality videos on TH-cam with humour and knowledge that you possess, you’re simply the best at this type of gig.
Thanks John. I really enjoy your videos. Your attention to detail really shows in the final product.
Nicely Done.
It sounds like you need an assistant editor/duster/lighting grip & lights /all around help.
Thanks for all your hard work
it doesn't go unnoticed .
Thanks for this behind the scenes video. The quality of your videos are amazing and now I can see all the hard work that goes into making them. The topic is always right on the money and your attitude is always refreshing. You and Olaf make a great team, and I certainly hope that you continue making super high quality content like this!
Top! Both informative AND entertaining 👍👊😅. Keep going. ☕☕
Not surprised at all John with the calculation, anyone who has ever created content in just about any media will know that quality equals tons of time and energy!!! Glad you like the process as many of us enjoy the results !!!
Your extensive work is hugely appreciated. The end product is always of the highest quality and very eagerly awaited. Huge thanks to you and Olaf.

I am listening thanks for sharing John, it’s a full time job.
I know...a well thought out, planned, high quality video when I see one.
Yrs is among the best...TQ and well done!
Much respect for the work you (all) put on every single video. And thank you to share this high quality content and opinions with the community.
Loved this video! Nice to see your process and thank you for the peek behind the scenes.
As a video editor and shooter for Skylabs Audio, your channel has always inspired me to get better with each video I work on. Results may vary. 😊
I still have a long way to go, and audio channels like yours are such a great resource for information AND an excellent example for someone like me to aspire to. Cheers! 🍻
THANKS JOHN 🤗😎💚💚💚
That was very informative and educational John. Having had to film myself speaking to camera, I am pleased (for want of a better word) that you are still not comfortable with it- and I have years of radio presenter experience. Not the same thing. And I watched an ex television anchor speaking of the same issue. Very valuable tip about cutting away etc. mid word.. As someone else commented, the coffee B roll is excellent.
Really enjoy all your videos and appreciate all your effort in making them. Have a blessed day 😊
That was fun, thanks. I was only off by about 20hrs in my guess! You do great work and I love your approach and knowledge. Thanks agai
Conclusion: The quality of your work, clearly reflects the quality of the equipment you review.
I would have never guessed it takes you 40 hours to do a video start to finish! Thanks for all the work & the results are always great. I think you B roll is first class & have learned a ton about music for the selections you recommend!

Your hard work pays off. Always a pleasure to watch your videos

Love what you do mate, thank you for the time you put in. I consume a lot of YT content and you guys are in the top 5 for quality
The dust is from all the coffee bean your grind in the video 😂but seriously the level of production you guys put out is extremely good and I'm grateful for it. Keep the great work and thank you!
I guessed 25 hours. Your content is meticulous and very appreciated.
This was GREAT! 🔊🔊 I thought 10 hours tops but WOW . . . Methinks I appreciate your content even more after this ! 😎 Thank You for this Mr. Darko! 🎇🤝

You make some of the best hi-fi content out there. Keep up the great work!
This was awesome. Well done. The quality of the videos is top tier. Always.
