My name’s Michael Carlson Jr! I’m ‘61 and my father had this exact corvette except he had a white convertible top instead of the hard top! Which personally I love the Blake hard top much better he didn’t have the 3 stainless hole screw mounts in the stowaway lid to lock down the rear of the hard top! But man what a beautiful car! I hope you can send me pictures later on the rebuild if you would! Good luck and again what a beautiful car! Sincerely yours Michael Carlson!
awesome that the preowner is recorded telling the story behind the car, so there is more to the car when knowing the history. the 58, 59 & 60 modelyears Corvette are the nicest looking Corvettes of all Corvettes and from a great time, these should be preserved forever. vid is a year old, how is that Corvette in the video doing today ?
I my self would leave it as is, but it is yours you do what you think is best, Iam going to play with my 63-split window I hope you get to have fun with it soon..
I have had my C1 for 50 years and it does not look as nice as this, in many places. The chrome should polish very well. It was good chrome back in 1960. Carefully clean the entire car. Like you said, do the brakes, check the engine and get it running. Clean the fuel system. Clean electric connections. Fix any gauges that need attention. Then enjoy the car as a survivor. If you don't like it that way, sell it and get one that is closer to your liking. Many car guys would love this car in it's original form.. Hope you enjoy this great find!!
Hello Ryan, I know this comment is about a year late but I just want to say if there's anything I can help you out with, I'm just a few miles away. I grew up here in Flint, Michigan where the very first Chevy Corvettes were built. I have specialized in Chevy Small Blocks. I've built more of them than one could shake a stick at, lol. Just to let you know if I can be of help, let me know. Thanks for taking time to read my comment. BTW, I'm 74 years old now, and I've probably forgot more than many people know about them. Nice original car...great find. Another vote for keep it original! Deal with the mechanical and driveabililty/safety issues, clean it up good and enjoy it. Let it keep its well-earned time and battle scars!
Beautiful Vette. B on B, manual trans, hard top, wide whites.... And a one owner with lots of history. I was 12 in1960 and this is better than a C8. Would cruise!
We have a 1960 same car in family since New its the fuel injection option And driven and enjoyed when covid hit i drove from Bristol Tennessee several times Visiting family and work every other trip to Amarillo Texas with the 60 and his 63 injected Corvettes. Mostly US 82 elcamino hyway no interstate don't be afraid to drive long Trips... great video thanks for posting 👍
@@RyanGunnells driving them keeps them reliable....I'm currently working on grandads 65 corvette should be finished in June Today I'm doing a service call on a 58 corvette... for a customer just waiting on napa to deliver parts
I can't wait to see it after you clean it up. Good luck. I also have a labor of love, I own a 1960 Corvette that I purchased in 1967. I am in the process of restoring it again. I still have two gallons of Ermine White, the original color in Dupont Acrylic lacquer. I don't believe you can buy anymore due to the tree huggers getting sale of it outlawed. It's a fun car to drive, BTW mine is also a factory 3-speed like yours. I did replace the brakes with 1957 Taxi Cab Sintered Metallic brake shoes which fit perfectly and du not require the special brake drums and it stops great. Good luck!!!
Thanks great SAVE…..interestingly, that was first Thing ; Sintered METALLICS , ON MY 1966 GALAXIE XL400/ 4 Speed/352/4 V*/ dual EXHAU *(( fixed GALAXIE XL UP Starting 1967, PS ******I would have preferred 7Litre / Disc Brakes or R CODES ( Jay LENO’s), but got Deal from MOPAR DEALER, AS only 4 Soeed in lot… ps,but area looks familiar ( Coffee Walk, HAGERTY?..)!!!!
What a grate find. I think it good just the way it is. I'd wash & wax it. tune it up and get some brakes working. and more then that . KEEP the 3 speed in it. looking like there is a soft top under the deck lid. I would open it out in the sun before latching it down . I know about that. from my car. I had it since 1971 . 1958 corvette. You have a very nice car Ryan. I saw this video just now. and had to tell you what I thought about your car. carry on. AZ. over.
Great car. Great find. The bad music on your video competes too much with what you're saying (volume). Mentioning this not to be a jerk, but to help you with your future videos. Good luck with this car!
Great car Ryan. I may have missed it, but I looked through your videos and didn't see one about how you came to be it's current caretaker. The story is usually just as important as the car. How about a video with your background and how you came to acquire this beauty? Have fun!!
Rebuild all the original parts of the car. DO NOT USE ANY MADE IN CHINS REBUILD PARTS. There are many Corvette suppliers out there selling only factory NOS parts. NEVER EVER loose that numbers matching 4bbl 4 speed carb, they are very very rare VEEEEEERRRRY RARE !!!! Same with all the parts of the car, everything is for only a 1960 4speed corvette and match only THAT CAR.( even the water pump is only for a 4 speed car, get that one rebuilt and stamp your name on the housing so you KNOW it's the same water pump you get back after the rebuild. Do NOT loose nothing, mark each bolt & nut, take lots of very detailed pictures with notes in each, and put them right back where they were. . There are 2 things to really worry about, a cracked block or a cracked head.
If anything can be rebuilt, I plan on rebuilding it myself, or getting it done. I may go ahead and get it running with what parts I’m able to more easily get, and then replace the replacement parts with the original when they are ready. But… keep in mind it’s got 80k+ miles, and I don’t know what may have already been replaced before I got her.
Do you think in 50-60 years they'll be pulling Priuses out of barns saying my dad loved this car it was his pride and joy... I kinda doubt it we entered what I call the disposal generation many years ago. Had to edit because I didn't think about how batteries tend to leak after years a bet a damn Prius would be hazardous waste in that time frame
The car is only original one time unless you do to it probably the more valuable this car will be there's a lot of cleaning and repairing the stuff that needs to be repaired but original is always more valuable
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!

Only the 1930s, 40s, and 50s era for lifestyle, music & cars!

juste un bon nettoyage pas rechromer les pieces la garder dans son jus avec ces defauts c est mieux et ca d avantage de valeur
Marvel mystery oil instead of WD -40 for top cylinder lubrication to get it freed up !
I’ll have to find some of that!
It's only original once just needs some TLC get her back on the road and enjoy
That’s the plan.
I think this might be a C3..1.953-1955 is C1...1956-1957 is C2 and 1958-1960 is C3. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.
C3 is 1968 to 1982
Thanks for watching and commenting. I am definitely not an expert in Corvettes
The Old man wouldn't've sold it Darling Daughter did 😪
At least it has stayed in the family. I’m partly making this series for Marilyn and the rest of the family that knew Bernard and his love of the car.

Exactly...keep the original carb..and rebuild things....cause EASY is not being era specific original.
I’m trying to keep it all original as possible. Some of the parts I can’t get or find rebuild kits for unfortunately.
The car is only original one time unless you do to it probably the more valuable this car will be there's a lot of cleaning and repairing the stuff that needs to be repaired but original is always more valuable
