I never noticed his armor was faded and dented. Where as every other knights armor was shiny and new. To come from nothing and work your way up with hard work. Go thru war violent tourneys and finally become a personal guard. But he couldn't expect anything different. The princess is just that. I don't even think she could of lasted without her lady's in waiting. Her life was defined for her since birth. Not everyone has the strength for change. I really liked them together. But no matter what it doesn't explain why he turned so evil towards her and her family. It shows maybe if she ran off with him how long before he changes into something else.
I think he just hates her because she reminds him of his lost "honour", and it's a coping mechanism because he can't face the truth, that he couldn't have honour or love, he lost his honour by breaking his oath, and he through away his love by being hateful.
He thought thst being her lover was below him snd dishonourable, but sir Harwin proved that someone can choose ehat honour means to thembut it's reasonable since Cristen tied his whole worth to his identity as the kings guard

Had Rhaenyra truly loved him, then she could tell her father about their relationship. In the beginning Viserys would disagree but then he would accept, given the fact that how he always gave access to her daughter in everything, including the fact how he accepted even her bastard children as his grandchildren pretending to know nothing. So here it was all up to Rhaenyra, but poor girl had only her eyes for Daemon. Only if Daemon was out of the picture, then probably she could see Criston from her loving eyes.
No, Viserys would've never accepted their relationship and would've probably supplanted her with Aegon as the heir.

He even allowed all those Illicit behavior that Rhaenyra committed post her marriage (including giving birth to bastard children), so it could be normal for Viserys to accept her relationship with Criston even after forbidding at first. Coz Viserys always lost in front of his daughter's stubbornness. In reality it was Rhaenerya who was not into Criston to see him as a marriage material ever. She always looked at him as a sex toy only, so she has no regrets.

Away from all the burden but then it snapped in her the dream, the throne, her father, her responsibilities and she gave up on the idea of running away... She didn't give up on HIM she asked him to stay while both of them perform their duties . It's not wrong that he choose not to be a toy anymore he has all the rights to feel betrayed, anyone would feel it. When he gave up on her , she choose ser harwin he gave her the pleasure she needed , children and support. Criston had different perspective but becoming a villain made him crispin under alicent's commands 🤦🏻♀️

@@moe5020 I don’t think you’re making an effort to try and understand everyone’s side/thought processes. Like it or not, SHE was the one in the position of power in their relationship. Criston even said he had nothing to his name but his cloak which SHE gave him. I’m fairly certain he voiced his thought process very clearly, yes he naively thought that they could romantically run away from Westeros and get married but I think that just reveals he had a fairytale idea about their relationship. When Rhaenyra communicates to him what their relationship actually was from her perspective(the person with the power and who initiated it), he was crushed. All Rhaenyra was interested in was having him as her side piece, her boy toy. Meanwhile, he clearly thought the only end goal for their relationship was marriage. I will say, I’m definitely not on Rhaenyra’s side in this because like it or not, she put her claim to the throne in jeopardy and chose to create the opening needed for Aegon to pose a real threat. She was young, yes, she was definitely naïve but she was also a princess who was aware of what her duty to the crown was. I certainly can’t excuse her behavior just because “she’s a main character.”

@@bealive9431 Whether or not Rhaenyra put her claim in jeoperdy is entirely irrelevent to Criston. Criston is like 30 years old he knew exactly what this was and willingly broke his oath out of lust. He didn't actually want to marry rhaenyra his proposal to get married and run away wasn't done out of geniune love it was his misguided attempt to alleviate his own guilt, he thought if he could marry her then he could delude himself into believing he broke his oath for love and then he could live with himself.
Criston wouldn't be as violent and disturbed as he is if this was merely a case of tragic love and a broken heart the reason he had a mental breakdown is because of his guilt and his own self-image it has nothing to do with rhaenyra.

Try to picture yourself from his POV.
You do realise that he was maybe around late twenties and she was only 14 or 15? She isn't obviously going to run away leaving all behind when she had worked for her father to recognise her as capable of being a ruler. It was unfair of him to think that she would just leave that behind. He was a king's guard because of her. He could have kept it a secret and behaved like the adult he was, as she did, but he chose to betray her. Pathetic

He was in the King's Guard and she was a princess and heir to the throne. It is immature of him to think that she was going to leave everything and run away with him. She never betrayed his trust. She didn't tell anyone about them. He did. He could have easily kept her secret and hated her. He killed an innocent man out of spite, just because he wanted to expose the true nature of her fiance, perhaps hoping the marriage wouldn't happen. All he did was provide Alicent the ammunition needed for her plans to take power.
