I am so glad you finally got to see this and see the energy that is Queen live. Great reaction, thank you. If y ou listen you will hear the entire crowd is singing along to every song. This is not a particularly large crowd for Queen. In their 2 Rock In Rio concerts a total of over 600, 000 people attended, better than 300,000 each concert. Freddie's words on crowd size? "The bigger the better, darling." Physically, Freddie is still very strong at this time but he had a serious throat infection and his doctor warned him not to do this show. Freddie said that singing at this concert was like gargling with glass, yet, he pulled it off perfectly, afterall, he was Freddie Mercury and his audience was the WORLD, he just couldn't pass up an opportunity like that. According to Brian May, the movie was not intended to be a documentary, it was intended to portray Freddie Mercury of which Brian said that the movie did a very good job. Other aspects of the movie were used to make it a movie and keep the audience engaged. Queen had the final say on the movie because until the movie was in the can, the rights to use their music would not be signed off on. Without the music, the movie would not have been worth anything.

Yes, and also realize that this might be the greatest example of crowd control in performance history, and it's not a specifically Queen crowd. He's controlling a Live Aid crowd, many of whom are here for other groups. And he is enchanting them. I like Queen quite a bit, but they're not my favorite band ever. But Freddie here makes a very solid case for greatest frontman ever (and Brian slays as well).

Queen never took anything for granted and spent the week prior practising to get this spot on... other bands and artists turned up woefully unprepared! On the day it was stunning... we listened to all the artists/bands and accepted the bands did this for free and had been set up rapidly so there was quite a lot of forgiveness of muck ups and not great performances.... then on came QUEEN and in 20 mins reminded everyone what talent, showmanship with hard work could actually achieve. Undoubtedly all amazingly talented but something everyone seems to forget ... they worked very very hard... no flying by the seats of their pants and definitely no resting back on the game and fortune they already had. 4 down to earth guys with strong work ethics and talent off the charts.
It’s hard to explain but they made you feel as if anything was possible and you didn’t have to have their talents (of course many aspiring musicians were hugely influenced) but if you are going to do something ... be the best you can and always be yourself ... just my ramblings about the feel of Queen and I can’t leave it without saying ... it was like seeing family members .. you felt connected and part of it all. If any of this resonates with others then maybe that’s why the fan base felt the loss so deeply in 1991 and then drew together to support Brian, Roger and John thereafter.

I thought your reaction to this performance was really authentic. If you decide to explore Queen's discography, (and I hope you do) you will be amazed at how good they were right from the start. Then you will be surprised at the variety and number of genres they perform. All 4 band members wrote music and each had a #1 hit. The band could play anything and Freddie could sing anything. After his death at the tribute concert, other singers had to change the key to his songs because they couldn't hit the notes. Queen has a massive and very loyal fan base still today.

This, My friend is one of the greatest Performances of all time in rock history. Queen totally stole the show that day, 72,000 live and 1.9 Billion people on tvs witnessed this legendary act
Freddie had a throat infection so his voice was kinda raspy, But he went all out vocally coz of the small set
Brian May recently revealed how the band didn't actually thought the performance was great, They thought it was OK.
They soon realised how much of an impact they did, They became the talk of the town, and after working on an album called ''Its a kind of Magic''
In 1986, They embarked on their last ever tour with Freddie Mercury and John Deacon in the lineup, A Kind Of Magic Tour, They toured the whole Europe and UK.
Playing to large stadiums, What a way to end their last tour ever with the classic lineup.
Queen's catalog is full of hidden gems as well as popular masterpieces, You are in for a long adventure, Greetings

Queen wasn’t even supposed to be there. They were added after all the tickets were sold so the audience wasn’t expecting them to be there. Freddie was having throat problems and was told by his doctor not to do the show but in pure Freddie fashion he did it anyway. Queen did steal the show that day. As for the movie: yes, the producers took some liberties with the timeline of events but they had to fit 20 years of Queen history into 2 hours. The movie is just that and not a documentary. I find the film entertaining and of course the soundtrack is all Queen so you can’t go wrong there. 😊 Enjoy your Queen journey. The rabbit hole is very deep.

    • @ZENOBlAmusic
      @ZENOBlAmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It is far more then timeline liberties, it is really bad. Queen did not meet in the way as was depicted in the film. They knew each other for a few years, and even lived together before the formation of Queen, they knew each other from college. There was noting of Queen's struggles to get signed, it took them 3 year to be signed. And nothing about their time with the Sheffield brothers, and their production deal. After they had recorded their first album they had to wait about year before it was released. The Sheffield's really took their time. It was a very stressful situation. There was nothing about the band living like paupers while their production company were becoming richer. Queen never really had any problems with their record label, yet in the movie they only show a small fight with a recording executive over Bohemian Rhapsody. In the movie John Reed manages them right from the start while it only happened in 1975 in real live. Freddie never fired their managers, they all left on amicable terms, and Queen started managing themselves in 1977.
They don't show the fact that the whole band was drinking and partying, Roger and John were also drug users, they always show Freddie being late, in real live Freddie spent the most time in the studio out of everyone.
Queen took a break for only 6 months in 1983, after doing constant touring and recording for 10 years. In 1983 they returned to the studio to record The Works album. In 1984 and 1985 they did a worldwide tour. Freddie took two years to record his album because he placed Queen ahead of his own solo material. Even before the album he said he was not going to do any tours with the music on the album. It was not a serious project for him. Roger and Brian happily recorded solo albums before Freddie.
Everyone else did solo albums before him. In January 1985 Queen played for almost 400k people live, it was broadcasted to 900 million people in South America, great preparation for Live Aid. The Works tour was very successful and it ended 5 weeks before Live Aid. Queen released 5 singles from The Works album, it was a highly successful album, they were riding high in the charts. Freddie's solo album was not the flop they pretended it to be it spawned one no.1 hit single, and a few top 20 hits. The album has sold in the same range as some Queen albums. All of this basically tells you that every single thing that happened in this movie was incorrect.

@@ZENOBlAmusic According to Brian yes of course there were liberties taken but Brian and Roger, movie consultants, wanted the movie to focus on the music vs Freddy dying etc. All you added above would have been an extra hour or two of movie. Yes there are things in the movie that I don't understand why they put them there or why they had Freddy say he had HIV right before Live Aid but for someone who knows nothing about the band and wants to learn then the movie isn't that bad.
Several of your "facts" are incorrect. They did not meet in college. Freddy was friends with Tim Staffell and joined after he left the band. Just not the same night as shown in the movie. Deacon wasn't even their first bass player. He was the 4th. (but he did do their first Queen concert)
Their tour ended (world tour BTW) 8 weeks before Live Aid. Anyway I could dispute a few other things you say but this is too long already.
The movie is not trash. Nor is it "every single thing that happened in this movie incorrect" I knew facts before I saw it and I enjoyed it. In fact I've seen it probably a dozen times. Like I said earlier if they put in everything, in order, it would have been a 10 hour movie. It's not meant to be a documentary or autobiography but it still gives glimpses into a part of Queen and Freddy.

      @maryannsavage3724 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@nanner3200 I totally agree with you. That's what documentaries are for. Brian, Roger and Freddie's sister approved of the film and they knew him better than anyone else. It also won 4 Academy Awards and Queen gained some new fans. 👑

Freddie freakin Mercury....the greatest rock singer of all time ! He owned that stage that day. I was a 19 year old soldier stationed at Ft Bragg North Carolina the day of this concert. I was at a cook out at a friend's house when live aid was on . When Queen took the stage all the talking , The laughing, and horsing around stopped, and Freddie had our undivided attention. After their set was over we sat in silence a moment until someone finally spoke up and said Holy $#!* that was phenomenal!
What more can be said than over 75 thousand in the audience doing a synchronized Radio GaGa clap, and a follow the leader impromptu vocal play lead by Freddie.I know of NO other band who had this style , charisma, and class to so effortlessly own a stage> RIP Freddie ..The angels are lucky cause Ill bet your leading the choir. By the way David Bowie was yet to go on that day...he was heard to say " How the hell can I follow that ?" !

Queen always added the “of the world”, part in live shows. The song itself is actually a very complex composition. From a compositional perspective it makes sense, why it was not added to the studio version. The composition and cords within the song never really resolves into a satisfactory way. It only slightly resolves, the full tension within the song is never completely lost. The song uses some of the saddest notes within the Mixolydian and Dorian scale, these are a very sorrowful sounds but done in major keys. The major keys still gives you the big winning feeling, but there is genuine sadness behind it as well. The song is never resolved into one big triumphant feeling or moment, it always eludes the listener.
In truth the whole purpose of the song is to say that we always have to keep on fighting. We have won this battle for now, but the real fight never ends. The sorrowful keys also shows that it was not easy, there was sacrifices made along the way. That is what the composition within the song really spells out. By not ending with “Of The World”, the process is never resolved, you always have to keep on going, you cannot rest on your laurels after this one victory. The lyrics also says; “and I need to go on and on and on…”
From a studio perspective it makes sense not to add the final part, it is mostly meant for people too listen, perhaps more attentively. In a live setting while everyone is pumped up and there is an energetic live atmosphere, and the band has won over the crowd, it does make sense to end the concert with that last triumphant note. As this was always usually the last song Queen played.
A composition of a song can sometimes tell you just as much about the song as the lyrics, and Freddie was really good at combining these two elements.

I saw them in 1978, it was the best concert I've ever been to. He played off the crowd, he had the same energy you are seeing here. It is so cool to see you enjoy them as much as I did! For your next Queen song I would suggest Don't Stop Me Now. Happy holidays.

Ciao Daniel, awesome reaction! ❤️ I did enjoy watching you smiling, clapping, opening your eyes wide, it was refreshing and fun! Your passion for music was so obvious and I loved how this performance left you speechless as powerful music gets to your heart first and your brain second 🙃 Freddie was charismatic, vibrant, authentic, vital and on point as well, a really missed and unmatched performer. Check out Somebody to Love live in Montreal, it gives me goosebumps every time I watch it - and I've seen it a loooot of times 😉 Take care :)

Though chronologically inaccurate and a slew of other inaccuracies the movie does give you great feeling nd understanding of Freddie, as Brian May said you have to cram all this into an hour and a half and have it flow as a movie, but the essence is there great movie. So you cant watch the movie looking for historical accuracies but for getting good reflection of all the players involved. Queen great band......

The bbc coverage of the Ethiopian famine was incredibly powerful but left everyone appalled but with no real focus as to how they could help, the major charities did not really have a huge breadth of visibility to the ordinary joe. For so many people the creation of Band Aid ( and subsequently live aid ) and its fronting by the loud brash but popular Bob Geldof provided that focus and encouraged them to dig deep in their pockets. It also proved to the politicians that famine relief was something that people cared about and therefore focussed their attention on foreign aid in a way that it had not been before.

Amazing reaction video, once again...your emotional response to "Is This the World We Created?" quite literally brought tears to my eyes. I'm so glad you've had a chance to experience this performance. I'd gotten out of the Navy in January of '85, and had moved to Massachusetts for a job...I'd gotten a pretty sizeable bonus for signing up with a tech company, and, since I had a large-screen TV (well, large for that time), with the sound running through the massive speakers of my stereo, I hosted a party of friends for the entire 16 hours of Live-Aid, which started on MTV at 7am, if I remember correctly...at the time, I lived in a large apartment complex, and, rather than separate balconies, there was just a common open walkway, with stairs down to the pool. At least half of the apartments had their sliding doors open, with Live-Aid blaring from inside, so the sound was amazing...seeing this again just brings back so many great memories!!

*Freddie* *Mercury* for me is one of the strongest vocalists in the world of rock music of all time! Among the female vocalists, a clearly expressed leader did not exist for me until recently, until I heard a young singer from Russia - *Diana* *Ankudinova!* I recommend listening to her unique performance of the songs: Wicked Game, Human, Rechenka (Реченька), Blizzarb (Вьюга). Listen to *Diana* *Ankudinova* , she will be able to really surprise you! 💎💎💎💥💯👋👍

That’s because they rehearsed with a large clock in front of them to have their performance timed perfectly! Their Head Roadie, Peter Hince (“Ratty”) bought the clock for their regeasals. You can see him during Live Aid - he’s the one giving/taking Freddie’s microphone and guitar.

Finally!! I’ve been waiting, Lol. Loved watching your reaction and acknowledging Freddie’s charismatic control of the audience!! Queen takes every one of their performances very seriously, and they rehearsed to fit in their set for the allotted time. (Shortening some songs as needed). They were polished, very used to stadium audiences, and always wanted to be “perfect”. As for the movie, “Hollywood” made some things up to make things more dramatuc and also moved timelines around. For instance, Freddie wasn’t diagnosed until 1987, and Live Aid was in 1985. He may have had his suspicions though. Paul Prenter was shown as a blend of 3 different people’s personas in the movie per Freddie’s Personal Assistant, Peter Freestone (“Phoebe”). Anyway, I enjoyed the movie because it was entertaining and more importantly - thousands of you g people “discovered” Queen 👑!! Freddie Mercury was the Most Googled person of 2019! Keep exploring Queen, I’ll be watching. Happy New Year - it’s definitely got to be better! 😊🙏🎉

Keeping this in mind, how about reacting to an early work and then a later---mix it up a bit? (My favorite is "A Winter's Tale" and it is the last one Freddie wrote. I have patiently been waiting for you to review the live aid performance. I thought your decision to listen to each of the songs performed first before listening to the whole thing was very smart. I know another reactor who adores queen and Just has Freddie mercury and queen on a pedestal watched live aid and because he didn't know half of the songs He really wasn't able to enjoy it and I felt so bad for him because I Knew that he really wanted to enjoy it and see this part of music history. Just as you said bands that followed did not want to go on After queens performance. Queen performs, Other bands Play. Yes it's true at concerts The lead singer will break the 4th wall but with Freddy there was never a wall to begin with. He sang for the crowd not to the crowd. There was always a given take of energy between Freddie and the crowd. Often times people will say at a concert that the singer was singing to them. With queen freddie Was singing to each individual and he held each of those 72,000 people in the palm of his hand. Freddie not only performed with his band but he also brought along 72,000 other performers. He is the greatest front man in Music history. As far as the Final song it is just as relevant and applicable Today. It has transcended time And sadly In another 50 years I think people are going to say It's still just as relevant
If you are looking to follow albums that are concept albums or rock opera albums I suggest queensryche operation mine crime. It was done in the 80s And the themes are just as applicable to day as They were when the album was written. Greed, power, manipulation, misinformation It's all in there. And on a personal note That was the best concert I have ever attended.

Having seen many of the clips on TH-cam I can say with absolute certainty that Queen was the best when they could react off the crowd's excitement. It was like the audience raised the abilities of this already brilliant group. Australia had the privilege to have Queen with Adam Lambert recreate this set at the fundraiser for the bushfires that hit us during our last summer. Those at the concert reacted the same way the people in this crowd did. This is known as the best performance at Live Aid for a reason.

Freddie was and still is regarded as the #1 male vocalist and frontman of all time. Queen were also voted as the #1 live band of all time. They had a huge advantage performing at Live Aid because they were use to playing in large stadiums and they rehearsed quite extensively because Freddie was a perfectionist. As for the movie, they had to take certain liberties for the storyline. There's no way that they could fit 20+ years of their lives in only 2 1/2 hours. If Brian, Roger and Freddie's sister approved of the movie that's all that matters. I personally thought it was FANTASTIC! If you continue down their rabbit hole, I suggest that you watch their live performances over their official videos. Queen were always better live. You'd be amazed at how many hidden gems they have in their extensive catalouge. 👑💖👑💖

From all the bands that played that day two stood out, U2 and Queen. Donations were dropping before Queen came on, Bob Geldoff was preparing one of his ''Give us your money'' speeches when he looked at the crowd during Radio Gaga and saw 78,000 hands in the air. He didn't give the speech, donations hit a high point. Geldoff said Queen got exactly right and played a medley of their biggest hits. Freddie Mercury was born to play Live Aid, he totally smashed it.
