    So cool to see another full album review for TMBG. They have quite a few that are worthy of this kind of reaction. Check out Lincoln, Apollo 18, Nanobots, Factory Showroom, Join Us.

      it's probably my favorite too - the variety from the opening to the rest, the rhythm section tearing it up, and all the tasty chord changes - such a great song

    This is my first time watching you fellas. The algorithm did me a solid today. Had fun singing along to every word and hearing your reactions to one of my favorite albums of all time. So much nostalgia. And you’re so right about TMBG’s lyrics. They seem silly, but they can be incredibly deep. Self Called Nowhere is probably my favorite track. I’m gonna check out some of your other videos now!

    In response to what you said about I Should Be Allowed To Think predicting the internet, that's rather interesting because the TMBG album Long Tall Weekend was the very first album by an established major label band to be released exclusively through the internet. The Johns are trailblazers!

    it split critics and fans because people thought they were officially "abandoning" their original fans and supporters by adopting a "mainstream" band lineup, instead of just the tape-reel/guitar/synth home-made type thing.

    Went to see them on this tour... to explain Garretts insight, durimg Spy John Flansburg stands in front of the stage and points at the horns randomly... and then at the drums... and then at the guitarist... and then at the audience who yell out SPY on queue... and then alternates for like 4 whole minutes

    Just stumbled across this and your Flood reaction and loved them both! I like your open-minded approach to the music and your honest reactions. I don't know much about your channel otherwise, but if you consider doing another TMBG album in the future, I wonder what you'd think of the album they just released called BOOK? Particularly as there is one track, "If Day for Winnipeg," that pertains directly to a piece of Canadian history. You may find that interesting! But of course, I am just a passing stranger, and you can do what you want. :p

    It might be interesting for you to think about the themes presented in their music. There are many. It’s not just “madness” it’s OCD type repetition, the inability to escape, paranoia…. If you think about these themes, the songs open up to new levels of meaning… and that’s just one “facet”. They also write songs about scientists and artists. They are amazingly brilliant, and I could go on and on, but I’ll just be blubbering after a bit. Legendary geniuses.

    One thing I always love about Alice Cooper is that he was good friends with, and next door neighbor to, Groucho Marx.
    Mark Evanier tells a much better story on his website than I can recount, but it's the kind of story that'd make a good episode of Drunk History.

      @@GarrettEulett I pretty much think all the fans of their OG artsy Geek Rock 80's/90's music grew up and got jobs in Holiwood and started putting them in movie and TV shows soundtracks. And then their record contract with Disney in the 2000's renewed that status in a new generations mind and hearts! 😊

    They both write songs, each separately and then arrange them together. They call themselves "The Shitty Beatles."
    Linnell writes more musically complicated and beautiful tunes. His lyrics are often very moving.Flansburgh often writes a greater percentage of the satirical parodic "throwaway" numbers..His writing matures as the band progresses.I think Flans has been influenced by the brilliance of his partner Linnell in terms of the development of his approach to writing over time. Flans writes more like his partner Linnell through thirty plus years together. Linnell writes distinctive , very striking creatively harmonically sophisticated and melodicically wide ranging tunes, very pretty well shaped hooks and contrasting sections, Linnell is a genius and Flans is frequently ingenious and he ultimately becomes a genius and They ARE Both Giants.

    • @manualboyca
      @manualboyca 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always thought the "Factory Showroom" album was their "sell out" album - and it almost seemed intentional, like they were TRYING to sell out (but couldn't do it). I was disappointed in the songwriting when this album came out, but it's grown on me over the years and I really enjoyed it tonight. Cheers!

      @@manualboyca Nah... John Henry was way hyped by the record company and Snailshell was all over the radio and on MTV Alternative Nation and 120 Minutes constantly. Factory Showroom was them fighting the sell out... going back to more John and John centric feel. EDIT: In my opinion of course.
