To the people that think the grandma is angry, she is not. She is just dominant without aggression and shows she is in charge and the pups should know their place. Puppies need to learn some manners from an older dog that humans cannot learn them. That is why a pup have to stay a fixed amount of weeks at his mother, before being adopted. It is not that different from raising your own children. Does she know she is the grandmother? Probably not, but dogs do not care which puppies they teach social skills. They just do it. So please stop freaking out over this.
This Female dog of ours is an Angel, we perfectly knew there would be no problem with her daughter's puppies. We would not do it with other dogs we have ! We are responsible persons and I dont understand that some people who don't know us allow themselves to give us lessons ! Dec 16.
you obviously know wtf you're talking about, so: if the grandma would be, next to putting on a show like in the video, growling and barking (our old blind girl reacts to a pup like this), should i shield her from the pup and keep her away from it? (i have always done this for now) no bites (obviously) yet...
Well, I do not know your dog so my advice will not be accurate. Also, I am far from an expert. If you are worried about the situation, you should seek the help of a professional dog trainer. But maybe this helps; Is your blind dog tense in the presence of the pup? And is she triggered immediately when the pup enters the room she is in? Does she do it for only this pup? If these are the case, she probably does not trust/like the pup and her disability does not help her to feel confident when the pup is around. This can escalate at some point. But if you pay close attention in the interaction, you can observe that the play is getting more intense and rougher. So you can stop it before it escalates. But be careful, it can escalate quickly, so you must be confident in reading dog body language. If you are not, seek help from a professional. If both the dogs are yours and living in the same house, you should try to let them get along someway. It is very unhealthy and stressful for the dogs and other people in the house if your dogs need to live isolated from each other. But try to let them bound with the help of a professional that knows what he/she is doing. If your older dog only growls and acts dominant when the pup starts playing or gets excited, it can be the same as in this video. Harmlessly determining the social structure. She should stop doing this behaviour when the pup reached adulthood and learned all necessary social skills.
thanks for the answer... the pup is not ours... we just meet it lot while on walks... so avoiding it isn't really a problem... we just don't want her missing out on any socializing, since she enjoys the hell out of meeting the other dogs she is already friendly with. just as i guessed there is no THE ANSWER... guess we will double down on observing our girl... we adopted her not long ago and she is the easiest dog you could imagine... this is just a tiny little worry with really not that much of an impact on her or our lifes and the growling/barking only happens when she gets suprised when she gets jumped up on, which is understandable for a blind dog lol thank you for your time, friend

I have reserved an adorable cream GR from a litter of four. The owners have their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (who they started with). They let the older girls socialize with the babies once they're about five weeks old and able to move around a bit better. I'm picking up my baby girl in three weeks and we are all so excited!

Not quite the point ... because she is still very energetic, aged 8 now ! The real point is that she's always loved cuddly toys ... ans she was dreaming of chewing, mumbling on one quietly. But this was impossible with that gang of little and restless rascals ... that her daughter's puppies were ! Pffffffffffff ... cheeky progeny ! Jan 17.
I was lucky enough to have two Goldens, one of whom is now 14, and from my experience, that golden would be a lot more aggressive if she really wanted those puppies away from her. She is dominant but she is busily teaching the pups social skills and how to interact with an older dog, if she wanted them away, she would be able to do that.
Poor grandma, looked like she was about to start snapping some necks there. Cute bunch of little meatballs though. Golden Retriever pups are the cutest!
