- During the 2013 Living Legends of Aviation Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Living Legend Bob Hoover presented the Freedom of Flight Award to the first and last men on the moon. There to accept the award for the late Apollo 11 Astronaut Neil Armstrong was Neil's wife, Carol, and his two sons, Mark and Rick. Apollo 17 Commander, Gene Cernan, was at the event and graciously accepted his award. During the presentation Bob gave some personal insight into the lives of Neil and Gene. The Living Legends of Aviation Awards is produced by the KiddieHawk Air Academy.
The KiddieHawk Air Academy is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization, located in Littleton, Colorado, dedicated to introducing, educating, and sparking children's interest in aviation. The KiddieHawk Trainers give children ages 4-9 a sense of flight, albeit only a few feet off the ground. It is the mission of the KiddieHawk Air Academy to give children the "spark" they need to help create the next generation of aviators and aviation Legends, while teaching them the importance of academic excellence to reach their aviation dreams.
Volunteers travel to schools, camps, museums, hospitals and aviation events where they have children interact with the Trainer, airplane components, models and speak to them about basic concepts in flight and aviation careers. Volunteers are often active members of the aviation community and include retired pilots, aviation enthusiasts and former educators. - บันเทิง
Bob Hoover is my aviation idol!
- the man is an unbelievable pilot (arguably THE BEST), and he's a great human being! If you haven't read hi book "Forever Flying" - get it and read it ASAP!
I'm very proud to work for Mr. Hoover at his FBO at Van Nuys Airport in Ca. P.S. Chops, love your channel, subscribed earlier this morning
Mike Powers Awesome thanks! The closest I got to Mr. Hoover was seeing him fly the Shrike Commander routine at Air Venture '98. I'll never forget it seeing him shut both engines down and then climb up and do more dead stick aerobatics before landing and silently rolling to stop perfectly center stage! What sorts of things go on at his FBO? I didn't know he owned one.
*****
Im a Line Service Tech at his FBO. we are a full service FBO offering charter flights, fueling, aircraft towing and hangars.

Mike Powers thanks for the link - seeing the ad about the fly in blew my mind. I am racing to figure out if I can swing it to get down there for that! If I can, do you want to meet up?
definitely, That would be awesome. Just let me know
Such a lovely and historic chat from a true hero. And even though Bob seems to have mellowed, a bit he's even more lovable in his twilight years and still has that unique spark of life.
Thanks Bob!
I just reread Forever Flying and am still amazed by his exploits. I had the honor to meet him at his booth at Oshkosh some years back. He is the most modest, self effacing individual you could ever meet. A true gentleman.
Bob Hoover the man with the Ultimate in Aircraft Control... 1. aircraft control 2. Navigate 3. Communicate. What an inspiration to get your head out of the cockpit.
I grew up watching Bob Hoover, he is one of my favorite pilots of all time. At the age of11, I knew I wanted to be a pilot. He's had an amazing career throughout his life, although his flying days are over there are plenty of videos to watch. He is a Living Legend no mistake about it.
What a bunch of guys. They did not have anything just going up not knowing if they will come back alive. The world should be thankful to these guys.
Something about the way Gene talks that I've always liked. And Bob ... well, he's Bob isn't he. You can't help but love these guys.
My folks took me to Reno every year as a teenager,I loved watching this man fly.Have a drink on me Bob.
Chuck Norris wants to be Bob Hoover when he grows up
He's cool...honestly one of the most respected and knowledgeable icons of avaiation..i wonder if he still flys.. i hope so...if i was him i would make sure i died flying when the times comes
How can you say that? He spoke without notes, and everything was fascinating. Amazing at his age.
Respect to those who flew. Respect to those who fly god bless all those in the skies for good.
RIP Neil, Bob, and Gene.
Still sharp.
As long as someone is with you when you check out. Otherwise, it could be someone's unlucky day on the ground. Happy Landings
Great men.
Great Man
Does anyone know how he was able to steal the FW190 from a revetement when he'd never flown one before, and didn't speak or read german? Did someone brief him before he got in the cockpit? I can't find a detailed acccount. Thanks.
ummmm.... I love this great man..but wonder if there was a director making the wrap it up sign..
What did Bob say to Gene at 15:26????
