It was certainly a surprise, but they bounced off of each other pretty good. Kelly was like a nice balance between Jackie and Star. She had plenty of energy and was just as impulsive, but she knew how to dial it back and calm down. They would have been great together.

Man when the S3 intro dropped I was so hyped that Kelly looked to be a more utilized and involved character like a main cast member but she still felt under utilized. Didn't get nearly as much screentime or was as involved with the story compared to Ponyhead, Tom and Janna.
I think the way they handled the shipping in this show was the worst of both worlds. If you though that Star and Marco were better with other characters (which is a sentiment I agree with) then it’s disappointing that all of those ships were torpedoed in order to make way for Starco. But if you liked Starco you had to slog through so much of the series, and only got them together in the last three or so episodes of the series. I did dig Marco and Kelly’s chemistry so it bothered me how they broke them up offscreen.
