I would say I wanted Micah until the Rams game during that 1st year when Penei went face to face with Aaron Donald. That was when I knew we got the right guy.
What a great first draft for Holmes.. Sewell, Amon Ra St Brown, Derrick Barnes, Alim McNeal.. Also Iffy and Levi have shown to be good players too when healthy
Sewell is a generational talent. A cornerstone. Our fans are dumb. Parsons is what the old Lions would have done. When they took Sewell i knew they were serious.
There isn't a single player who has had a bigger part in the turn around than Penei. 58 and his drive and passion are what brought everyone else's level up. Couldn't have dreamt up a better player to start your turn around with
IN HOLMES I TRUST! Penei was the one draft pick I called from a mile away. I told my wife the second we drafted him "we just got ourselves a gold jacket guy." I think what gets lost on a lot of this is character and culture. Brad and Dan knew Penei was THE character and culture guy to turn this team into what they want it to be; clearly Micah was not and they saw it before the draft. That's also why I was 100% on board with them not selecting Jalen Carter even though he showed he would be a beast on defense. If they don't think the fit is right, then they don't think they're going to get what they want out of that player.
We needed an identity and this O-line has been that identity. If any other position group needed to know what grit and toughness and Detroit is about, look no further.
Michigan people love our big boys. Penei Sewell all day. Penei was a generation talent at the offensive line. Plus, pretty much the number 1 rank player at that time. Going by most college rank.
19 as a junior coming out! He's still a baby 4 years in. Can't wait to see him once he gets his old man strength. 58 is the face of the brand new lions forever. He should retire a lion and walk into Canton
That 2021 draft is going to go down as not only the best draft in Lions history, but the second best draft in NFL history behind only the Steeler draft that netted them five (5!) HoF players. The Lions look to have two HoF players (Penei and ARSB), a perennial Pro Bowler in Alim, and two starting quality players in Levi O. and D. Barnes. Melifonwu is a bit of a wild card, who if healthy is a Pro Bowl talent. But the absolute key to that draft and this entire turnaround was and is Penei Sewell.
100% agree on 2021 potentially becoming the undisputed second greatest team draft of all time. Alim, Levi, Barnes, and Iffy all need to get & stay healthy and get a few more solid seasons under their belts to make it so. Iffy and Alim both have HOF potential.
You are dead wrong Braylon. Most Lions fans were overjoyed when we drafted Penei. In my mind Parsons was not in the conversation. The Lions (Brad and Dan) wanted a strong O Line to build on. Penei was a generational talent and the kind of gritty guy who exemplified everything they wanted to build at Detroit. What is this 91% wanted Micah garbage?
Dan Campbell has talked about the dogs that were on the 3-13-1 team saying that he discovered who were the dogs that didn’t turn on each other. We made the right call penei is a leader. Micah not so much.
It's awesome how much of a no brainer Penei was for Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell. I'm pretty sure if they had the #1 pick that year, they would still come away with Penei. Whether they got stuck at 1 or traded back. Parsons was the more tantalizing talent for sure. But they were looking at the bigger picture. They knew they weren't just getting an elite talent, but a pillar for the culture Dan and Brad wanted to build.
Can someone please explain to me what a generational talent is. Cause it seems to be used in every draft or any player who has a good season it seems like. Its thrown around way to much.
Fellas, Brad Holmes was hired first (Jan 14), then Dan Campbell (Jan 20). They interviewed both positions about the same time, but MCDC was not hired before the GM
When Sheila Hamp decided to clean house she brought in Chris Spielman as a special advisor to the owner. He is the man responsible for advising Sheila Ford Hamp on coach hiring decisions. He's the man who's input is responsible for the hiring of Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, Arron Glenn and Ben Johnson. Chris does not like the spotlight anymore but you can best bet it is his input that is shaping the Lions.
I can honestly say, that I was Not a Micah Parsons fan. Had issues at PSU , questionable character. Was ALL IN on Sewell from day 1. Favorite lion since day 1
Braylon, I love you brother, but no no no no no. I wanted an offensive line. Matthew Stafford is a great qb, he'd LOVE to play in Detroit right now, he never had protection. We drafted running backs who had no chance because our O-Line SUCKED. MEGATRON left because Stafford couldn't get him the ball because we couldn't run it and couldn't protect Stafford. I grew up watching Barry, he left because his line sucked. You've got the best running back in history quitting because his team couldn't win because the offensive line sucked. And they didn't all suck, there were plenty of good players on every roster, but you've never had a group like this, and Penei was a HUGE addition.
Paye has already missed ten games in just over three and a half years. He is not the healthiest guy either. Now that Levi is past his back issues, he will be a solid starter for us. And a guy that can play DT and DE.
Brad Holmes drafted for character, not just talent. I'm glad he's the GM of the Detroit Lions.
I would say I wanted Micah until the Rams game during that 1st year when Penei went face to face with Aaron Donald. That was when I knew we got the right guy.
A no-brainer, this. Penei showed skill, commitment, and leadership from the get-go.
What a great first draft for Holmes.. Sewell, Amon Ra St Brown, Derrick Barnes, Alim McNeal..
Also Iffy and Levi have shown to be good players too when healthy
Micah is an excellent football player. But Penei is FREAKING MONSTER
I didn't know much of Penei either. Im sold he is the best player in the game right now. He should be MVP.
peni was always regarded as a generational tackle
Born, raised near downtown Detroit, currently in the metro area. I have NEVER heard anyone say we wanted Micah.
All the 97.1 guys wanted him. He would have been a disaster here.
Raised around Grand River and Shaefer, same here.
A few guys at the Pride of Detroit site wanted Parsons, but nowhere near 91%. Laughable!😂😂😂
I’d say less than 10%.
Peni Was always regarded as a generational tackle since he was a Freshman. I always wanted him
Sewell is a generational talent. A cornerstone. Our fans are dumb. Parsons is what the old Lions would have done. When they took Sewell i knew they were serious.

58 and his drive is what's turned this all around. Parsons wouldn't have had the same impact culturally. Penei is the face of the brand new lions
Yep
Michigan people love our big boys. Penei Sewell all day. Penei was a generation talent at the offensive line. Plus, pretty much the number 1 rank player at that time. Going by most college rank.

Even if the Lions had the #1 pick they should still have taken Sewell
Amon Ra has a little Hines Ward in him
Steelers fan here, and, you sir, nailed it. He's going to be better than Ward. He even looks a little like him.
He's always reminded me of a mix of lions legend Golden Tate and Hines. Golden when he has the ball in his hands and Hines when he's blocking
💯
I remember saying after his rookie year he could be like Larry Fitzgerald. Not really the same skill set per se but the hands 🔥
I call him Hines Ward 2.0
Love Bray but almost all of my friends thought Sewell was the right pick

I wanted Sewell from day one, glad our GM isn’t a dipshit
Penei Sewell, Future Hall of Fame. Since 1965, GOLIONS.
Football character, either you have it or you don't. 11 doesn't have it.
Without question
Dan Campbell has talked about the dogs that were on the 3-13-1 team saying that he discovered who were the dogs that didn’t turn on each other. We made the right call penei is a leader. Micah not so much.
Derrick Barnes getting injured was really unfortunate he's been great
Penei Sewell was the correct pick from day one for his talent, character and leadership. The game is won on the line of scrimmage.
It's awesome how much of a no brainer Penei was for Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell. I'm pretty sure if they had the #1 pick that year, they would still come away with Penei. Without a doubt penai was the better pick
Can someone please explain to me what a generational talent is. Cause it seems to be used in every draft or any player who has a good season it seems like. Its thrown around way to much.
I would take Parsons at a reduced rate.
i wouldnt say better its?almost like comparing apples and oranges both are good but sewell play a more inportant role for his team.
Sewell in all fairness should be the 2024 NFL MVP!
Fellas, Brad Holmes was hired first (Jan 14), then Dan Campbell (Jan 20). They interviewed both positions about the same time, but MCDC was not hired before the GM

100%
I never wanted Micah at all. I didn’t even really know his name. I didn’t know Penei either.
All brad had to do is talk to penei and micah and he knew exactly who to draft after 1 conversation
Duh.. Penei is the best player in the NFL
I can honestly say, that I was Not a Micah Parsons fan. Had issues at PSU , questionable character. Was ALL IN on Sewell from day 1. Favorite lion since day 1

The Vikings are the most dangerous team for the Lions in the NFC. If the Lions slip, fuck the #1 seed, we have to keep the division.
Brad probably recognized that ol boy talked too much
Everyone with sense wanted Peni. We were tired of not being able to run/ watch our qb get sacked
I take Penei ahead of Parsons EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Levi has played a few games and then gets hurt again. I wanted Kwity Paye in the 1st
Paye has already missed ten games in just over three and a half years. He is not the healthiest guy either. Now that Levi is past his back issues, he will be a solid starter for us. And a guy that can play DT and DE.
I’m the idiot that wanted Justin Fields 🤢 I’ll own that mistake
Obviously
