- SAFAR (engl: "journey") is a project for which the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar invited five high-class musicians from Afghanistan to present traditional music for which their country has been famous and which has been forbidden under the Taliban regime for decades. This is a piece from the concert that took place on July 4th, 2012 at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.
The musicians and their traditional instruments appearing in this piece are:
Ustad Ghulam Hussain - Rubab
Ustad Amruddin - Dilruba
Jawed Mehmood - Tabla
Abdul Latif - Dhol
Usted Mohammad Ehsan Irfan - Tanbur

Ustad Ehsan by far one of the best musicians of Afghanistan. I was one of his students in Peshawer. He kept our music alive he used to teach sitar, rubab and even tabla for who ever want to learn with out asking for anything in return except to do thier best to learn. I love you Ustad!

A true MASTERPIECE. It is absolutely reviving memories of the past when Afghanistan was in peace. When there was a smile on everyone's face and everyone minded their own business and no one thought of leaving their homeland for foreign lands.

Not true. Ragas existed way before Amir Khosrao. Recent discoveries of earth tabloids in Tamil Nadu show that raga existed thousands of years back.

That’s not true. Music is emanation and expression of indigenous cultures. Indian music developed apart from Afghan music. There may have been confluences in the course of musical developments but to say Indian music arose from Afghanistan is untrue.

Surely, India wasn’t around 700 years ago. But what about Afghanistan? Afghanistan didn’t exist 700 years, either. Have you looked at history? Afghanistan was established in 1748 by Ahmad Shah Abdali. That is only a couple of hundred years ago. Anyways, we aren’t talking about political history of countries. Here we talk about musical heritage and culture. To this day, in your country music is banned and it is considered haram and it is 21st century. How can a people and. nation influence the music of subcontinent while they think it is a haram and a taboo phenomenon? Your claim makes no sense and there is no credible and historical documents.
