According to a British body that measures sales of singles, no British band sold more singles in the 1970s than Slade. Given how many legendary British bands had been around since the 60s and others that became popular in the early 70s, that’s an absolutely remarkable achievement. Almost as remarkable is the fact that their popularity in the US really never took off. Casual listeners of music in America don’t know who Slade are. The educated and updated listener knows about them, but I know people who are fairly well informed on groups that are legendary in Britain, and they know nothing about Slade. It’s almost like they’re England’s best kept secret. And if it hadn’t been for Quiet Riot redoing two of their hits, even fewer people in the States would know about them. Sad. They are a great group.
I bought Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, with my own money, in 1983 when I was 9. I wore my little tape player out with this and Pyromania. Slade definitely should have been bigger in the States.
@@philartsio I highly doubt it, you are just wasted youth and can't appreciate why so many songs from that era are considered classic. Name one past 2000. Oh they don't exist.
How had I never heard this song before I saw it on a retro top of the pops episode?! Granted I wasn’t born till 87 but wow this is a tune and I love my 80a tunes! A power ballad and a half this!
Almost makes me cry. And I haven't cried since 88. But it's a true feeling. And it is so simple dammit! But it is so NOT HERE in the world today. Thanks for the post.
Always loved this song. Slade is a true hidden gem of the 80's. Quiet Riot did make a career off of Slade remakes. But nobody could replicate this sound , beautiful song. Even Slash reminds me of the guitarist.
Sy mendengar lagu ni sewaktu umur 9 tahun 1986.sekarang dah 2024 umur 47.memang saya tak pandai bahasa inggeris tapi saya suka melodinya.lagu ni nostalgia bagi saya takkan saya lupa.
This song/video should have been promoted more than it was. It was definitely undervalued. As it celebrates its 40 year anniversary, people still tune in and say "My Oh My"!
This song gave me goose bumps the first time I heard it on this very channel about 7 years ago and still does every time I hear it! Thanks for posting this so I could discover this song and further expand my musical horizons
I did not know of this song until a couple months ago while giving a test run to my circa 1937 Philco 37-116 Deluxe console. Knew of Slade due to Run Runaway, but this song totally blew me away and sounded great on that old, early High Fidelity radio. If it wasn't for our local AM-FM station playing 80's Casey Kasem shows, I would have never known about it. THIS is the type music we need right now with all the craziness and division in our lives. Brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it and those guitars are just magical.
On July 7 , 1984 this debuted on Billboard Hot 100 chart at #80, also at #88 was their remake of "Mama Were All Crazy Now" by Quiet Riot. Amazing & facinating. Just like "In The Year 2525" was no1 in July 1969, the day of moon landing

I'd love to see places in the UK sing this during lockdown
Great time for a re-release, no? When all this crazy ends.
We need it even more here in the US
@@bryanw91178 so let’s all sing together?
Not an educated man but love slade. Love from southern Illinois. ❤
I used to almost get into fist fights over the fact that Slade did the originals and not QR in the 80s ❤
i sure was a teen rockhead in glam metal 80s - didnt know about QR's cover of Slade's - what are those ??
@@MojoZ20 Cum on feel the noize and Mama weer all crazee now.
I bought Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, with my own money, in 1983 when I was 9. I wore my little tape player out with this and Pyromania. Slade definitely should have been bigger in the States.
Masterpiece, beautiful crafted song with catchy melody, goosebumps from the start. Why cant music sound like this today.
Yes it's true, now the music is 👎🙂👋
@@veerleseys8296 I highly doubt it, you just dont Listen to the right stuff and still live in the 80's.
@@philartsio I highly doubt it, you are just wasted youth and can't appreciate why so many songs from that era are considered classic. Name one past 2000. Oh they don't exist.
@@philartsio old music is better than new music
Wow, such an underrated song by an underrated band, just really starting to explore these guys and im not disappointed, wish I'd started sooner
How had I never heard this song before I saw it on a retro top of the pops episode?! Granted I wasn’t born till 87 but wow this is a tune and I love my 80a tunes! A power ballad and a half this!
A forgotten, overlooked gem. Slade, you rock!
Thank you for everything sirs in Slade. This song makes me cry each time I hear it.
Sy mendengar lagu ni sewaktu umur 9 tahun 1986.sekarang dah 2024 umur 47.memang saya tak pandai bahasa inggeris tapi saya suka melodinya.lagu ni nostalgia bagi saya takkan saya lupa.
What a great vocals from this guy
Totally underrated.
I'm so stoked I found this of course in TH-cam! This song evokes wonderful memories from my youth!!!
Fantastic tune...more of Slade's ballads should be remembered., this and Evr'y Day
This song/video should have been promoted more than it was.
So let's all pull together, My Oh My. This band is amazing!! They deserved more recognition than they got.
TheLadyMalfoy You’re soooo right! I never even heard of them growing up! 🤯
Oh they had recognition - can you imagine the royalties from Merry Xmas Everybody - played all over the world? Immense money for a superb glam band !
100% agreed!!!!
I am American. Everybody here knows "good bye to Jane"

Lyrics
I believe in woman, my oh my
I believe in lovin', my oh my
Don't a woman need a man?
Try and catch one if you can
I believe in woman, my oh my
We all need someone to talk to, my oh my
We all need someone to talk to, my oh my
You need a shoulder to cry on
Call me, I'll be standing by
We all need someone to talk to, my oh my
We all need a lotta lovin', my oh my
Yeah, and whole lotta lovin', my oh my
I can lend a helping hand
If you ain't got nothing planned
We all need some lovin', my oh my
Oh, yeah
Oh
Yeah
So let's all swing together, my oh my
We can all swing together, my oh my
You've got troubles of your own
No need to face them all alone
We can all swing together, my oh my
So let's all pull together, my oh my
Yeah, let's all pull together, my oh my
We can ride the stormy weather
If we all get out and try
So let's all pull together, my oh my
Yeah, let's all pull together, my oh my
Love this! Thanks Slade you are amazing.😃.

What old timer, sounds like you have done your duty. I salute you, or come to -at ease- if you're non-com. Like me. Check out Ripple by The Grateful Dead and Third Time Lucky by Foghat. Be well.
