I literally watched this unfold from my basement window. I live only about 1.5 miles from this neighborhood. Absolutely wild, prayers to all the people effected. Sure hope no one was hurt or killed.
I live about a mile or two away from the this neighborhood. Everyone in my apartment was outside watching the giant storm cloud that appeared across the lake. I don’t think anyone there would’ve believed you if you told them this was happening.

The 230 mph winds were brief and high above the ground, this was a multi vortex tornado with ground winds probably around 160. This damage doesn't add up with winds at 230.This is standard EF3 damage. Look at the damage from the Joplin, and both Moore tornadoes and you'll see what I mean. Those were constant 200+mph at ground level, the first Moore tornado was over 300.

All houses in the Midwest and tornado alley should have basements. Unfortunately, none of the new schools we've built in the last 5 decades have basements though.

Basements are common in Nebraska for this reason, many people were still at school and work

Apartments will have basement or storm shelter/boiler room to go to. But no not terribly common in populated areas, no one was expecting this damage

Omaha Rapid Response is mobilizing.
Basements are pretty common that far north. A saving grace is this hit while a lot of folks were still at work.
No basements in that new subdivision. You can see the houses were stripped away from the foundation.

The NWS will probably rate this tornado an EF3 saying the homes leveled were not well built and anchored properly. That often is the case.
Wind speeds were measured at 230 MPH. Contrary to internet belief, not many affordable homes are going to stand up to that.
@@plmn93That was brief and high above ground, not consistent and at ground level like the F5/EF5s on record. The proof is in the damage, every structure isn't completely leveled. So no way it was always 230, Joplin was around 200 and made this look like a minor storm.

Because overall this EF3 level damage. Gotta think an EF3 tornado is as strong as a cat5 hurricane.

Is this the new subdivision ? Some of those people haven’t even moved into their houses yet but that’s a good example as to know if I need to build your house of bricks and have a basement.
Bricks are expensive and usually not structural. But yes, I would not live in a home without a basement shelter of some sort.

All houses in the Midwest and tornado alley should have basements. Unfortunately, none of the new schools we've built in the last 5 decades have basements though.

High end ef3-low end ef4… there’s was two houses there that everything was blown down including interior walls.. just leaving a pile of rubble.. that’s textbook ef4 damage.. but it probably will end up as a overall ef3
Most likely EF4 due to those 2 houses being COMPLETELY FLATTENED.
@@flydragon7256 Depends on how well they were built. I've seen worse destruction get classed as EF3 before.
Judging by the last houses being just slabs and the video. I am guessing Ef4. We'll know better this weekend.
