I definitely sympathize with the gentleman on the paint. I have such trouble with one of my horses - when he is relaxed and focused, his is quite nice in the contact ,trainable and pleasant to ride. But if he is in a new place or becomes distracted by wind or deer or something he braces in a very similar manner. I try to ride through it thinking that if I simply maintain a correct position he will come back to working nicely, but that rarely works. My other tactic is to simply start galloping him in two point, which is better, but also not always successful. It's frustrating, this is not a green horse.
