  • You can make a nice single RGB LED to mount to your Arduino for testing purposes out of some. I've used it more than I expected to since making it a little while ago.
This is intended for use at 5V. But it practice you can probably get away with it on the "ISP"/SPI header of 3.3V boards (or just given with a 3.3V logic in some other way). But you could build a passive voltage translation out of a diode and a pair of resistors right into the design if you wanted.
The below link is to the exact thing you're seeing in the video. It's the canonical URL, not an affiliate link or anything. If I ever have affiliate links, I'll let you know. But it doesn't seem like I'm in danger of that any time soon or possibly ever if... you know, nobody ever likes or subscribers or anything.
    www.amazon.com/BTF-LIGHTING-W...
If you hunt around you can find them in smaller packs. I got these to have more than I'd ever care to have for projects so I didn't stew too much over whether to use and/or ruin one trying a dumb idea.

It's tough to build momentum on a TH-cam channel. But your covering the production basics. 1. Good audio. 2. Good audio. 3. Good video production. 4. Good subject matter 5. Knowledge of the subject matter. So keep cracking them out, keep them under 20 minutes, something will "click" and when it does you'll have the library of content and frequency of new content that will drive the sub count. You got a new sub today 😀, and some likes. How-tos and project build videos seem to get the views in the microcontroller community. Keep it up! Good work!

That crank turns harder and slower than most would guess though. I have no idea how often I'll produce. I'm not really cut out for TH-cam. But, I do have some videos planned. Dunno how long they'll be. It kind of kills me cut them down. It makes me choose overly assertive titles and phrasing in the video. A lot of what I have planned may be very boring reference material for future stuff. We'll see. If you got something out of watching, I'm glad to hear that. That's worth more than anything else at this point.

I love these styles of videos, even if you feel like you’re rambling at times, it’s all super interesting to me!
I just really appreciate the directions you take these videos, you’re really good at getting the most important info out to us. It drives me crazy when people gloss over information for whatever reason.
The editing you do and little notes are the cherry on top!

Just found you channel through recommended videos so hopefully you are seeing some growth. I personally don’t care much for overproduced videos and prefer the Ben Heck style of ‘point camera at desk and do stuff’ video. There aren’t that many microcontroller focused channels on TH-cam so it’s nice to see another one.

For engineering, form follows function. It has to teach first and look fancy second. You are talking about subjects that I've wondered about for a long time. Keep going.

very interesting to hear expert talking about arduino stuff I've been taking for granted for years

Well, if I'm an expert in anything it's probably pointing out people that they forgot to set a pin to output. Or they didn't connect their grounds together. My abilities are probably a lot more limited than you're thinking. But, if you're getting something out of what I'm saying. cool.

6:00 Perhaps a sheet of paper angled in front of the LED could better catch the color change? Just a thought really, also may not work at all as I have little experience with LEDs.

I used to put a little blob of hot glue, its diffuse so it works really well.

hey good info. i found it interesting/entertaining.
you know, more people might start watching if you could do away with all the pauses, and umms, and false starts, et cetera. or just try to edit most of them out. yes a video that skips ahead over all those would still be watchable. i've seen tons of channels that use that method. but better would be if you had more of a script in mind and could avoid them in the first place. i think all that wasted time might be the main thing that makes people not want to watch more.
and along those same lines, don't take so long to show something on screen. for example, at 3:20 where you're trying to get the camera to focus on the piece. instead of wasting time doing that, just know, while you're talking, that a good video clip or picture of it will be on screen; and then record one later and edit it into the video at that spot. that way you can take the time to get just the right shot without wasting on air time.

i like the concept, but getting to the point in a reasonable manor is the best approach. you start he video off by complaining that no one watches your videos, then you go off on a tangent about this or that , and before you know it, we're half way though the video before you even get close to making a coherent point.
If you find it difficult to stay on topic, or to efficiently get your point across by speaking naturally; you should look into writing a script for your video, that way you can remain on topic, and avoid situations where your viewers lose interest.
Also, complaining about lack of viewers / engagement is going to further dissuade people, as it makes the viewers who are watching feel uncomfortable. it's not their fault, they shouldn't need to listen to you gripe about it. they are actually watching your video.
As for the video's content itself.. there really isn't much here.. "hey i bought a thing, i'm going to make it work my way, using my code, which i won't show you, kthnxbye" this is an 8 minute video, and it literally went nowhere.
