Hello, the red washer goes right through the hub and stops against the bearing? Is there a gap between the bearing and the toothing? It happens to me that the red washer moves laterally and the ratchet jumps when pedaling, could that be the problem Min 10:30
your video might have just saved my wheel :P. after removing the bearing i thought that it was already in place but the axle was loose and i couldnt figure it out why...just needed a little push :) BTW, i just got a new wheel and its engaging a little while coasting. should be this normal with new hubs?it seems that tighter it is on the frame, stronger it holds the cassette on freewheel...cheers
Let me take that wheel for a few large jumps, that vice method won't work anymore. Like the most frustrating part of that hub you may look really easy and on one that has been broken down recently, it is easy. If someone has been beating on the hub for a couple of years doing jumps and drops over and over. That ring gear is on so incredibly tight you're going to need a long long leverage bar and some type of way to secure the tool in place while you put a wrench on it with the bar.
To get that ring gear out: buy the Elevation Wheel Company version of the tool. Just use a impact gun with it. My new 240exp hubs are arriving soon and will remove the ring gear and coat back and threads with antisieze. Will do that much more now with good tool. DT Swiss tool not good enough.
@@manuelcobian2355 so you will need a couple of things. The first one I actually got from an industry 9 rep. It's basically an aluminum stick designed to punch out those bearings that use a 12 mm axle. You will also need drifts to install the bearings properly and make sure they are parallel. There is a specific process to setting the preload on a DT hub. Basically what you do is wrench down the ring gear, then on the non-drive side you tap the bearing in slowly until you have no more play but they still feel free and loose. On some hubs if you just pound in the non-drive side the entire way you will have too much preload against the bearings. It won't roll well. The other thing I have found with the 240 specifically is it does not like being tightened as much as some of the frame manufacturers sell you to. 10 Newton meters is too much. Somewhere around 6 they seem to be happier with. If you over tighten the rear axle. All it does is squeeze the bearings, you pull the wheel off and you feel crunchy bearings after riding a bit. At any rate you can get a lot of good knock-off tools on eBay for the DT hubs. The ring gear remover is like 10 bucks. The drifts are 20 bucks or so. The little punch for removing the bearings, these things are fairly universal and they can be hard for 10 to $20. When you grease the star ratchet on the 240 EXP specifically. Don't use too thick of a grease. If you live in a warmer climate the DT grease is pretty good. If you live in a cold climate, use the very thin Shimano free hub grease. The DT Grease is too thick for cold climates
