I just fitted one of the Gilimoto tanks as well all the same problems you had + 1. No Fitted mount rear of tank 2. Hole to put fuel pump ⛽️ in was to small ( had to make larger ) 3. No fitting instructions 4. Also I had to cut down the side covers that lock into the original tank covers . BUT only 700 AUS shipped to Australia and looks pretty good now and works .
Thanks for the share! Everyone that I've met over the years shares the exact same feeling, trouble to fit, but worth considering the fuel capacity and the price. Still worth it, the XT holds on as an incredible bike!
@@BNAdv iv had quite a few bikes over the years , and only brought it as one ☝️ of my new bikes was out of action and was only going to keep it shop term BUT liked it that much I kept it , only had 5000kms and a 2014 model . It came with Arrow pipes - a bit loud , privet pegs , bash plate and rear rack . I done ✅ the following: 1. Modified a SWM Superduel screen and put on 2. SWM high front fender - removed the original 3. Braided lines & Castrol Reactive brake fluid - massive difference on the brakes 4. Adjustable levers 5. Mounting point for twin USB plugs 6. Heated grips 7. SM- Motech crash bars 8. SWM gear lever - it’s longer 9. Up ⬆️ on tooth on front sprocket ⚙️ Probably more but that’s all I can think 🤔 off 😂😂😂
The tank is not perfect but for the price I think it looks great the 30 35 l tanks from safari fit a little better near the saddle but we use non return valves which “blow them up” a bit and it is not uncommon for the saddle clip to come out on a hot day The lockable cap seems identical to the one I got from safari. If it is it is vented and will allow fuel to spill if the bike falls over which is the reason we use the non lockable with the non return valve On big adventures that take me through a city or two I take both caps Vague Instructions lol I think it is a tradition from most aftermarket manufacturers Thank god for you tube and internet Keep up the good work you two looks like the plan is coming together
my freind please check your fork seals i can see some fork oil on the fork tube of your xt660 r in the video , i'm until building my xt660 r too for more efficient adventure use , your videos are awesome i will film a video for my xt660 modifications to share it with you . good luck
Nice mods! I've recently installed a 14 liter Acerbis tank on my KLX 300 and I'm quite happy: construction, color and fitting are almost perfect! Also has the advantage of seeing the level of the gas inside :) Looking forward to follow the suspension upgrade. Keep up the good job on that XT!
I can reach 300km :) Well next big trip will be Transportugal-extended for sure this summer!! Lisbon-Minho-Trás os Montes-Algarve and I'll be happy if me and bike can survive :D
Tea2Wine thanks I may just do that. I’m preparing my bike for a ride from Ireland to Mongolia and back. It’s a solo ride so any help and advice I would truly accept with thanks
Note for all when installing the Gilimoto fuel tank, when fitting the frame mounts need packing out with rubber to take any play out. I used strips of inner tube and zip tied them on. Next thing is all the original securing clamps have thick rubber pads on, remove all pads replace with inner tube rubber and the tank fits perfect. Even the front radiator grill fits.
Hello, Super your XTR;) Can you tell me how you did with the gasoline pump? is it the original one, or an external pump? If it's an external pump, what is the model? Thanks for your videos;)
Hey Philippe, Thanks for the words! 💪 Ok, so the OEM gas pump does not fit into the Gili tank directly, it gets stuck on a little plastic slab it has attached to the plastic pump body. My fix was simple, I just broke that little plastic slab off, and it fitted perfectly. I cannot recommend this action directly, as it is literally braking something, but almost 30k kilometres, and having put the pump back on the OEM tank, as I don't need the big one right now, not a single issue with the pump. Again, this is what I did, and I am not recommending you to brake your pump housing, but it worked for me. Hope it helps! ✌️🏍
Hey Drago, Well, overall I have to say the tank is worth it, but you are very correct, the lower part of the tank is lower than the pump, so from my experience, you run dry with around 2litres still inside the tank, which is rather infuriating... I've read about people saying they made some mods to the tank to use all the fuel, but I didn't consider the work/benefit worth diving into that.
Hey Frederik, I've been envolved in this process on a few bikes and always with great results, and the reason for that is that I always use the same base principle, o replace the entire front. By entire front I mean forks, triples, wheel and brake. After that, I upgrade parts or not depending on the build. I like KTM donors with wp48 forks, and I have the steering stem machined to fit the new triples. The key is to make sure the steering stem is similar in size between both bikes to make sure the lower triple isn't too low on the forks. Three other important points to look for are: - steering stoppers, you may have to machine some - wheel travel, you need to make sure you measure the maximum travel you can use - steering angle, you need to keep in mind that the rake and travel will change Overall is a fairly simple mechanical problem to solve, but to have it well done there is quite a bit of preparation and engineering to be considered and calculated before starting. I hope it helps as it is a great upgrade to make! ✌️🏍️
@@BNAdv Thanks you so much! I think i will start the build coming summer. so till than im going to do my research for the best forks. The tip to do the whole front end is perfect. already wasn't sure about putting the old front wheel in different forks mainly because of the break-system. family members are engineers so I have the supplies and brains in reach ;)
Any time, and if remember, keep me posted on the progress, it's always great to see projects coming to life! The full front rules because there is no adaptations other than what I pointed earlier, and the KTM wp48 choice also rules due to the amount of possibilities available. Want to run wide wheels or large brakes? Use the SM triples that are wide enough to accommodate that. Want upgraded triples? Multiple brands make them for the KTM and you just need to instal you'd stem. Want different wheels, brake rotors, brake calipers, work on the forks... All available for the KTM at pretty much all the stores on the planet. I personally have 2 bikes with this mod on my garage, both with different components, both under the same KTM donor full front model, and both 50000000 milion times better than stock, while cheaper and better than any available upgrade for the stock system. There is an insane customisation you can create with this method making it bullet proof for me, but I've also seen many done with Yamaha and Honda donors, but I do believe KTMs have more options to make it our own.
Hey Karol, Honestly, I don't know, with old bikes I tend to remove the ABS, not install it, so I am unclear if it will work, however, I highly doubt it. ABS works over the internal computer, and since the R isn't equipped with ABS on any of its models/years, I don't think Yamaha went through the trouble of putting the software in. This means that mechanically I'm sure it can be done, it's all just bolts and pieces, but I can't see how would you make it work electronically. If you do have a crack at it, please film it, and if it works, please send me the link, I would love to see your solution! ✌️🏍

Fiquei super desiludido. I will be installing the oil cooler, was how you fitted it left or have you had to change from the initial installation
Tea2Wine thanks
Tea2Wine mine too is from OTR, so it will get the same installation as yours
teamwork, she reads and translates you put into practice hehehe
Finally could you inform me wich was the extra ammount of oil you had to add to fill the oil cooler capacity?. Thank you.
