At 67 I visited Greece for the first time. My first evening visited a local cafe in Thessaloniki and danced this with some female Greek students. Never forgotten. Joy and laughter and the feeling of being accepted and included. I came to be there as I found from the 1960's my very first romantic love once again. He was a Greek young man staying in the U.K. We fell in love. When he returned to Greece our relationship faded and finally went our own way. He was 21 and I was 18. More than half way through my 60's , from curiosity, I looked for and found him via Facebook. Since I then we have spent months and weeks together travelling between Greece and the UK and we love each other dearly. He has shown me the Greek Islands, Athens, the Peloponnese, Delphi, Olympia. Food, traditions and lovely hospitable people. It's been an incredible journey and he's a true Ionian Greek. I am now 74 and he's 77. I love the Syrtaki ❤️🇬🇧 🇬🇷. Just thought I'd share this! eagles-----these poor greeks are dancing an old ALBANIAN DANCE where number 3 is the number of the STARS of the ORION, the scarf in the belly is the BREZ (generation of tradition) and when they cross the legs and keep the arms open in the air, they are copying the flying of the EAGLES that is the 2 headed ALBANIAN EAGLE IN ALBANIAN FLAG. IT IS OLD DANCE FROM CHAMERIA- ALBANIAN LAND that now is under greece- poor arvanitas albanians that dance it and don't know that it is ALBANIAN- SYR+TAKI=SYR=EYE (in ALBANIAN)

It is amazing how a "traditional" (not really, created in the 60s) Greek dance evolves to something so big and international. Additions, adaptions and alteration (to a lot simpler original) create unique "enhanced" greek-like dances subject to other (non Greek) cultures and traditions. Very enjoyable video! Superb dancers!
