    I received my first guitar from my father when I was about eleven or twelve and took up the five-string banjo 35 years ago. I'm 71 now and have been playing ever since. I was entirely self taught as there was no Internet back then but I only wish that you and your methods were available back then.
    I just wanted to stop and say thank you for what you're doing for those that are just learning how to play the guitar right now, because you're taking years off the learning process for them.
    Thank you very much for taking the time to help others. New (and experienced) guitar players are extremely fortunate to have you and your lessons here on TH-cam.

      I've been struggling to play guitar on & off for 3 years. In my humble opinion Erich offers way more value than the other TH-cam guitar teachers such as the Marty's, the Andy's or the Justin's. Everybody responds differently to different teaching styles but Erich strikes a chord (!!) with me. I've signed up for his free lessons and I'm astounded at my progress. As Erich says "never trust the man". But I trust this man.

    New here Oct 2019. Been banging on a guitar for 40 years and never got past major and minor chords in open position and would put the guitar away out of frustration. The fret board has always been one giant puzzle and music theory was like trying to learn a foreign language. Your videos are like a flashlight in the dark for me. I am beginning to understand. Thank you for your time and effort. I really appreciate what you have been doing here.

    Great advice! I am right in the middle of this learning curve, I can do all form shapes, but always gravitate back to form one. Now I can use it all over! I have also recently begun to understand how to use relative minor to find the pentatonic shape for songs in major key. My big mountain to climb is soloing without sounding like I'm playing a scale.

      3 years later, can you play a solo without making it sound like a scale?

    that B string all you needed to say is bump up what youre doing by a half step put it into perspective for me. i cant believe that little thing has been holding me back unknowingly. i always would fish around for the note coming next in the scale on the b string but this really helped!!

      You can just tune your guitar in fourths and play the exact same shape no matter where you are on the neck

    • @beidouvirus3978
      @beidouvirus3978 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Uh no
      ...
      No
      ...
      Don't even think of doing that. Just be disciplined, learn the notes, don't take the easy way. Besides, the B string has that interval because it greatly helps the playing of chords and makes it much easier. That's the exact reason the standard tuning has that interval, to facilitate chords.

    • @christophertoledo968
      @christophertoledo968 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manu Perez chords yes. Not scales. Tuning in 4ths is pretty common. Just ask Tom Quayles.

    • @beidouvirus3978
      @beidouvirus3978 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I guess if you wanna get used to that tuning, sure, but it's gonna be hard to switch between the two if you're gonna be using scales. When you switch, you'll be visualizing what your used to and not the tuning you're currently using.
      IMO, tho, I recommend learning guitar in standard tuning if you're still at the level that the B string confuses you when playing sales, which is the stage that the original commenter was at when he posted. At that level, don't take shortcuts, and just get past the hurdle. Don't use the all 4th tuning as a crutch. Instead just make it another part of your arsenal when you're already a very capable guitar player

    You are a very good teacher. I have struggled for a long time just learning forms but still having a difficult time playing well. Your method makes that so much easier. Nor the scales are opened all over the neck and I can play.

    That's a cool lesson!! I have actually found that I can play anywhere on the neck in any key all depending on the timing that I use. So say if the song is in G, I can play every note and or string on the neck depending on the timing that is used.

    The b and the e string are different bcoz in all the other string like A, D etc. The next note is A# or D# respectively but in B and E.. Next note is C and F respectively.. And that makes the difference of the half step cause the sharp note is naturally skipped

    • @brendanlongmusic3192
      @brendanlongmusic3192 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I was thinking but why is the E string not down half a step considering there is no E# either?
