is it normal to shift between like 2-3k RPM?
i feel like modern cars do it between 1 and 2k

With this Type of engine, that is absolutely normal. It doesnt have a turbo charger, so it needs more RPMs to get going

It's a Mazda engine, used in Ford's and Volvos. I think Ford owned Mazda and Volvo at the time

I had this model. Overall a very good car. 2.0 engine is lively and reliable after 22000km. I had a very minor problems.. brake calipers sticking, cv joint leaking and a failed door actuator. The engine sounds good but fuel economy can be fairly low around town.
I was getting as low as 300km on a full tank. Ride quality is a bit harsh over bumps too.
But otherwise a brilliant car for the price.
